I personally think the movie was a perfect bait-and-switch.

The first 20 minutes or so were really interesting and I was expecting a fun and different sci-fi film. But it just turned into a very average action film all of a sudden, that was worse than it's inspirations.

Also is that really the reason nobody can reply to me? That's strange.

Wait a minute. James Cameron made a movie called Avatar which celebrates the ability of its hero to experience and do amazing things by controlling an alternate life form, and now he's lecturing us on our fondness for using the alternate reality of video games to have awesome experiences? Doesn't his film also condemn the human race for its self-destructive consumerism, while he makes millions off of the cheap plastic tie-ins? Is he being ironic or is he just a blinkered, pseudo-intellectual Hollywood twerp who has confused his effects-driven commercial success with some mandate to start sermonizing at the rest of us?

District 9 wasn't like Ferngully, therefore I liked it.

Personally, the plot for Avatar is fine. It's an action big budget movie which means, a complex plot would totally lose the majority of it's audience. Movie like this were made to be simple so everyone can watch it and enjoy what make these types of movies huge sellers averaging over a billion bucks and that's the special effects.

After watching the movie in 3D, now I want to see the technology on my TV because it blew me away. I have to say that I have not watched a 3D movie since the 70s because they were crap so jumping from the 70s to now was a big advancement to how good 3D has come.

Wow Cameron, you make a really good point about escapist entertainment! So much so, that I'll skip buying a ticket to your movie. That's what you wanted, right?

What I find so funny is that when someone express their ideal, like most of you do, you get in a huffy if you do not accept it. The guy has a opinion and a view of life just like the rest of us. He was asked a questioned and he answered it. If you do not believe in or agree with his view SO WHAT. Most of you act like you cannot move on with your life because someone has a difference of opinion.

Maybe it's me but a lot of you show just how immature you are and come off much worst than anything Cameron has ever said. You want Cameron to shut up but then come off as a complete idiot at the same time. Maybe some of you should really considering thinking about your opinion and how it's viewed before hitting the submit button.

@phix

Wasn't questioning your taste in women, just your taste in movies and what qualities you require in a movie for it to be good.

You know what, I AM questioning your taste in women, and just about everything else. Neither Holmes nor Gyllenhall do it for me, but I think I'd take Maggie if forced to choose.

Considering Cameron's history, it'd blow my mind to find out that he isn't a gamer to some extent. I'd wager he is one of the last figures in Hollywood to tell everyone to stop playing video games.

Ever think of putting down the pitchforks and realizing that it's a fairly valid criticism? I play MMOs but even I'm somehow smart enough to realize the certain "disconnect" some players have with their real lives and their virtual ones. It should be apparent to just about any sensible person out there.

The depth of the film's script in regards to addressing this is pretty irrelevant. It's an observation. He's not calling all gamers a bunch of Mountain Dew-drinking, 400lb fatasses. Many of you really need to get over the persecution complex.

I watch movies to be entertained, not to think about the OMG SO DEEP philosphies behind it. I watched Avatar, and I liked it. I don't care about any messages behind it, or what movies it is similar to (and until I spoke with my supervisor about it, I had completely forgotten about Fern Gully...), because they're not important to my enjoyment of a film.

Interpretation is a funny thing. Two people can look at the same image, and both see it completely different.

Honestly, I didn't see the message Cameron was trying to portray by Grace's smoking. However, I did find it funny she was allowed to smoke in such a high-tech lab... or that humanity hadn't erased the need/want for tobacco by 2154...

I think Gamer does an overall better job of showing the decadence of society when life is based so much around online video games. And, it does more than enough of it to cover Avatar. In other words, Gamer covers what Cameron was trying to show and then some.

I think he's just trying to convince us that the story had a lot more subtleties than we initially thought. Haha. Nice try doofus, but I ain't buying it.

Avatar was pure SFX pron, and I never want to watch another effects film unless it's in 3D. The story was hackneyed, sure, but cliches become cliches for a reason, and if we must see this theme explored yet again, I appreciate that they at least made it pretty.

the ONLY good reason to see avatar is for a 3-D eye-gasm.

watching avatar outside of IMAX, would be a huge waste of money.

the story is basically a long lecture on how white people are land stealing jerks and that we should all save the environment. blah blah blah.

Al Gore may have had some part in writing this movie......

michelle rodriguez is one of the worst actresses EVER

done ranting.....
