They did add in the neck-snapping move I was looking for! However, I believe players may not be able to use it in-game...

Also, that video reminded me of a Geico commercial. Hopefully, that Fight for the Lost mini-title doesn't get confusing like "Sea of Dreams" did for Bioshock 2...

I've already seen these like last week and they are corny. I believe these were made by the same advertising team that did the horrendous Dragon Age marketing campaign. We all know there characters won't be that corny in the actual game, because Bioware always has top notch acting and voice work.

Of course there's no guarantee it won't, my only proof is look at how corny and bad the Dragon Age marketing was and the actual game was nothing like it. The characters weren't cheesy or stereotypical at all. They just make the commercials "edgier" to pull in more people.

It worked for DA too. I think the 360 version was #7 or 8 in the NPDs for November.

I think word of mouth worked more for Dragon Age. People know Bioware are quality and they heard that the game was great.

Does anyone else think Grunt sounds like Clancy Brown? I wonder if that is him.

I can't worth the life of me comprehend the appeal of Mass Effect.

Do you guys really like sticking it to Fox News that bad? Because the actual game itself is pretty craptastic.

Not a fan of these cheesy character videos, but the game should be fun.

I also didn't like the character videos for Dragon Age yet the actual game blew me away and became one of my favorite games of all time. It will be hard to follow that up, but I'm confident Mass Effect 2 will be fun at the very least.

And Legion. If you don't know who Legion is, I'm not going to spoil it because I would consider it to be a pretty massive spoiler...specially for anyone who played ME1. Not because he's a character from ME1, just....you'll know what I mean if you find out who Legion is.

You're no fun :(

But yes that's Legion. He's not in any of the books either so it's a mystery to everyone how he shows up. There's also a rumor of another playable character obtained through free Day 1 DLC for buyers of the game. The EA website put up a posting today saying a new character would be available as day 1 DLC, but knowing them it was a fuck-up.

The DLC character can't be Legion either, as his class achievement is available in the original 1000 points, and MS policy says companies can't put DLC achievements in the original 1000.

Here's hoping there is a new DLC character though.

that'd be pretty great, although, worryingly, Hellboy: The Science of Evil from Konami did manage to get away with only a maximum 750 points available in the retail game, the rest being confined to DLC that never came

I'm not sure why bioware keeps wasting money on making these videos...

They had me and countless others sold the second we finished Mass Effect 1.

If you aren't sold (hard not to be at this point) then these videos just reinforce that feeling and do little to help it. Basically, these little videos are just terrible.

The Thane one is not THAT bad. The rest really seem like they are trying to hard to be edgy and make the game look like it's nothing but explosions and whatnot to entice a broader crowd.

Characters must be deeper than this one who seems to have as much interesting features and depth as a nintendo wii.

man sometimes i think this game is going through the Warrior within syndrom. make it dark and edgy. and make the charcters card board cutouts of various bad ass stereotypes. it still tramatizes me the first time the prince said "you bitch!".

I am hoping these charcters have more dimensions than what is shown.

I had the exact same fears over Dragon Age, and that game turned out amazing. I suspect that the "XTREME" feel of these videos is the result EA's moronic marketing team doing what they do, just like they did with Dragon Age's pre-release marketing focusing on sex and gore.

I'm not sure who to blame for it, but based on how Dragon Age turned out it's confined strictly to marketing.

Whether it's marketing alone that's being this ridiculously out-of-touch with the fanbase, it's still Bioware signing the checks away to these goon-weasels. I think they'd get much better word-of-mouth advertising if they redirected those dollars into something like quality assurance.

Brad is a new generation of internet advertising and identity theft via forums and blogs. The Bradbot builds a profile providing relevant data and posts that people accept. Then, after a period of time (and numerous posts) a point is reached when actual people on Joystiq respect him, defend him and read his many posts.

At that point the bot then switches to start advertising. The trust and respect is there, so the people of the sites are naturally attracted to what links are being posted and BAM! You've just bought a slinky and some guy has your credit card details.

Well that's one theory at least...
