Gamasutra has posted an interesting analysis of the treatment of sexuality in Uncharted 2. The article mainly focuses on Chloe, which the author, Tom Cross, describes as "a smart, competent, sexually aware pointedly heterosexual female character." The article further notes that Chloe, in an unusual turn for most video games, "constantly disagrees with and harries the main male character, sometimes out of self-interest and sometimes out of deeply felt connection and respect." While Cross notes that Uncharted 2 sticks to common story tropes and character arcs, he acknowledges the "incredible quality of Among Thieves' script, story, and acting," noting that the main cast are "some of the most fun, interesting, inoffensive characters in video games."
We're inclined to agree. After all, Uncharted 2 didn't take Joystiq's top honors for nothing.

My only regret after playing UC2 was that I couldn't leave Elena to die and run off with Chloe.
Well, maybe leaving her to die would be a bit much, but on a scale of 1 to 10 of how afraid I was that she was going to die it was definitely no more than a 4.

Drake: i wasn't really scared i would say a 4
Elena: A 4 ! yea right !
Drake: Seriously a 4 i would rate Guardians a 8 they were way more scary !
Elena: well what would you consider a 10 ?
Drake: A 10 ? Clowns
Elena: Clowns ! ( laughs ) you would rate clowns a 10
Drake: Yes I just don't like them, Their Creepy !

We didn't spoil anything. It was generic. A: If you went into an Uncharted 2 thread, you were asking for it and B: Isn't there a statute of limitations on spoilers? Like, if I spoiled the ending to say, MW2, would anyone care?

Cheesus... The story is superbly, and expertly written, but it follows archtypes of hollywood.
You know that the hero is going to get the girl, none of the protagonists are going to die, and that the bad guy is going to get what's coming to him.
This stuff happens.
The joy is from finding out HOW it happens, and they didn't spoil that. And yes, Uncharted 2 is probably the most joyous game I've seen in a long time.
Except for the goddamned ice temple.

oh come on chessus, we didnt spoil anything all you know now is that Elena might have died but she doesn't which really, come on, you knew that. But there are plent of opportunities for her to be dead, we didn't say which one it is! You get to figure that out all yourself, all we've done is alleviate the terror that she really is dead in those horrible seconds before the reveal

So when does Chloe get her own spinoff game Uncharted Raider. I would play that game if it would have a better name than the one I thought of.

There are some things about he universal acclaim this game gets which make no sense to me. The voice acting really was well done, but the writing was. ATROCIOUS. All of the dialogue is hackneyed and generic; there's nothing here we haven't heard in a hundred action movies. This is the reason Pulp Fiction was such a big hit: someone took a guy movie an made the dialogue funny and interesting.
If people keep praising games like this for being well written, we'll see fewer actually good scripts.

Well, why don't you go ahead and write one and we can all be privy to your genius dialogue and writing.
#1 - U2 wasn't Pulp Fiction - it is supposed to be a homage to great action films of several different eras. And the dialogue still had unexpected and interesting exhanges if you were paying attention.
#2 - Any actor/director/writer will tell you it's not the writing, it's the delivery. What writers call 'execution dependent' and U2 had that in spades

Ah, yes, Chloe.
I would hit it so hard that if you pulled me out you would be declared the King of All Britain.
