You've salivated over its pixelized undead for long enough, the day has finally come when you can play the retro, 8-bit version of Left 4 Dead that we first told you about in November. The free game is now branded Pixel Force: Left 4 Dead and is apparently the launching pad for a whole Pixel Force franchise forthcoming from creator Eric Ruth.
You can feast your fingers on the two-player co-op action right here.

Well, Sins of a Solar Empire runs fine as long as you don't have a netbook-sized screen. Pretty adaptable to low hardware.

And the Half-Life collection (not HL: Source) is good on low hardware.

My laptop isn't so great either, and recently I've been playing Braid, The Longest Journey, and the original Fallout. They all run great.

My portable gaming system is about a 4-5 year old laptop, I tend to hit up gog.com (Good Old Games) and pick up one or two for every major road trip. Pretty much anything on there should run on your machine, plus no DRM or client is needed. I tend to grab adventure games from there. If you're looking for multiplayer stuff, I think the new AI War has fairly low system requirements (4x space war game that looks really promising, I've only messed around with the demo).

I didn't see the answer so I'll ask for him again, since I kind of want to know as well: Does anyone know if it's online co-op or just local?

Wait, let me get this straight - the actual Left 4 Dead supports HD graphics, online gaming, and CD quality sound and... people would rather play an 8-bit version?
I can understand revisiting the old 8-bit classics, and even the retro Mega Man that was just released (since it's a throwback to the original games), but this is stupid. Instead of texting, by any chance do you use carrier pigeons?

What's there not to understand? Some people enjoy video games (GASP!) even when they are not full HD, 7.1 sound. This magical phenomenon is what scientists call "fun factor".
Don't need a 50GB game for that.

Okay, for everyone who down voted me, I'll invite you all over for the Superbowl. I'll enjoy it on my 52" HDTV with surround sound, and you can watch it in the other room on a 13" black and white TV with mono sound.
Oh, and the version you're watching won't be the official NFL version, it'll be played by fans of NFL.

Playing a retro interpretation of a game is not the same as being a Luddite.

See ducttape, here's how it works at Joystiq.
Only retail Wii games get universally slammed into hell acorss the board around here. All other gaming experiences (PS360, PC, hand held, retro, downloadable, even some Wii Ware!) are open to acceptance and acceptable following. Pssh, C'mon now.

@Cody
Oh yeah, that's right. Also, if it has the name "Valve" on it, or has something remotely to do with Valve (such as this unofficial, unlicensed game that has absolutely nothing do to with Valve) is instantly praised.

Cody, ducttape was making an ass of himself already without your help, at least you found time to mention the Wii though (and omg, you didn't have to highjack the first post to do it!).
Seriously, ducttape, why is this even an issue? What do you have against people enjoying a free time waster that happens to be an 8-bit Demake of a modern HD game? I don't get why it was even worth voicing concern over, and getting all hot and bothered. Why do you care... ?
Your example was pretty bad, btw. People don't go to Super Bowl parties to watch the game, they go for the camaraderie.

Some people just don't get it. He's probably 12. Though, not all of the 8-bit haters are babies. I have a buddy who thinks there is nothing good about em. He calls NES puke on the screen. If it's not the latest in tech for these people, it's factually inferior.
Ductape, I have a nice big LCD too, with a PS3, a 360, and a gaming laptop that all get hooked up to it. Am I wrong for enjoying Mega Man 9 as much as any other HD title with cutting edge graphics? I dunno if anyone said they'd rather play this than the real L4D, and if they did, it's probably a gameplay preference. I'm not huge on it myself. 3D isn't better than 2D, and vice versa. They are just DIFFERENT. Therefore, nobody is wrong for enjoying them.
Ya fucker!

i dled it from Strategy Informer with no problem. this game is excellent, if this had been released back in the early 90s it would be a beloved classic today. i'm sure this will definitely rank high on my best of 2010 list. sequel please!

I'm glad to see more people making an art out of classic game development. I will ALWAYS welcome new games developed for "obsolete" systems. I love my Xbox 360 and Wii but there is something pure about an oldschool NES game.
