Modern Warfare 2 soundtrack in the works, Zimmer says

Sure, Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer mode has already sucked you in, but just imagine what would happen if you added an invigorating soundtrack to all those bullet-soaked moments? Well, guess what: The game's soundtrack composer, Hans Zimmer, recently indicated in a Facebook note that the "soundtrack album is in the works."

That's right -- soon you'll be able to take the orchestrated drama from the single-player campaign and import it into a looping death march beat. But hey, at least your folks will be glad you're listening to classical music, right?

Excellent. I love the MW2 music. I drive around listening to the music from the multiplayer menu screen.

I generally like Hans Zimmer's work, espcially on The Dark Knight. I'll probably download this from Zune when it hits.

orchestral ≠ classical

Well first off, Hans Zimmer didn't compose half of the soundtrack. Watch the end credits for the game - there are at least six other composers who co-wrote the soundtrack.

Secondly, as far as composers go, Zimmer really isn't that great. 80% of the soundtrack is really boring ambient stuff -- morphing synths, we composers call them. The good stuff -- the action sequences, multiplayer themes, etc. -- are a rarity for Zimmer (his best tracks are usually written by other people working for him) and there are maybe a few good tracks (e.g. the airplane graveyard music, which I believe was written by Nick Phoenix).

Finally, this really isn't 'classical' music, you ignorant and ridiculously stupid article editor. It's not even CLOSE to classical. In fact, this is about as far away as you can get FROM classical - synths, ambience (that is, for those of you who know a bit about music, called 'atonal,' meaning it doesn't have a discernible theme or melody).

Sure there are some good tracks in Modern Warfare 2. But of the 70(?) hours of music in the game, there's very little of it that actually sounds good as standalone.
