Report: No Heavy Rain Collector's Edition for US

U.S. gamers looking to get their grubby mitts on that ridiculously ornate version of Heavy Rain won't, it turns out. One of SCEA's reps confirmed to VG247 that the pricier version won't make the trip across the pond. We're so sorry to upset you with this news, but feel quite fine saving your wallet's soul: money.

Sadly, SCEA wasn't willing to offer anything on a U.S. release date for the game proper, something we've all been waiting on since retailers pointed to potential Japanese and European release dates. Come on, guys! Throw us a bone we can actually chew on here!

If you haven't already, you could buy Torchlight.

Or even better, go snag Trine. It was on sale on Steam and Amazon for 9.99 earlier, dunno if it still is. Got my copy yesterday at that price.

Oh, and Gamestop says that the U.S. release date is February 17. The news has been out for awhile.

And Amazon says December 31, 2011. That doesn't mean anything.

What "news" are you talking about? Nothing's been confirmed yet, expect that it'll be out in 2010.

gamestop always has "expected" release dates.... they are 90% all bullshit to get u to slap down 5 dollars to preorder a game

This turn of events is depressing, this is third game or so not to have a US collector's edition. I need more useless crap on my shelves! Just tell me the AVP one is coming to the states?!

I don't think this one is 'useless crap': the box is pretty hawt and it also comes with DLC. I was excited when it was announced for the EU, hoping it would come here soon, but this sucks.

I usually don't get collector's editions, but the fact that some stuff isn't making the leap from Japan saddens me.

It's not the PS3s largest market. European zone is.

Pretty sure EU is the biggest market..

I've had 3 friends leave the U.S. in search of a better life in Europe. 2 to Germany, 1 to France. The 2 in Germany have been there and are driving BMW's and living great, and the one in France is not doing so bad either.

Even if the game gets the highest praises EVAR from Joystiq (like Uncharted 1 and 2) it's still gonna bomb.

I agree that Sony probably has very low expectations for this game here in the U.S. I'm fairly confident that we will see next-to-no marketing.

I was actually referring to the universal praise that those 2 games got from jostiq (not that that's saying much)

However if memory serves me correctly Uncharted 1 didn't do so hot initially. Sure it's been out for what is it? 2 years? So overall it's reached decent levels. But initially it was a failure.

u2 just benefitted from the spreading of the initial title.

Well, it was a little more than simple spreading. Sony has marketed the hell out of Uncharted 2, and it doesn't hurt that it's getting outrageously good reviews. One of which I read in the NY Times.

By the way, Heavy Rain will be amazing, just like it's other Q1 counterparts (Bioshock 2!). I'm very sure it will sell very well with hardcore gamers.

While I make it a policy never, evar to agree with Sprinkles, I have to agree that it there's a big chance the game wont do so good. He said that Uncharted 1 & 2 got awesome reviews, not that they bombed.

Even if Heavy Rain does get great reviews, it still probably won't sell that good.

Unfortunately, we're living in the "Michael-Bay-pwns" era of human history.

Well, then most games are failures by that definition.

Bombing in sales isn't the same as failing as a game k. PS3 games in general sell bad anyway. Gears 1 sold more than uncharted 2 did in it's first few months on an install base of less than a third of what the PS3 has today. It's pretty pathetic. I blame the "community" (if you can call them that) not the games.

and to joystiq, not demanding or anything but you could probbly fix the comment system just a bit. so myself and others dont feel like morons after trying to reply to someone.

This really is one of my most anticipated games of this year. And while I don't need the collector's edition of this as much as I do for other games, like Bioshock 2, but still, it seems immensely unfair that we won't get this edition.

But still, Heavy Rain for the win!
