Sony confirms expansion of PlayStation Network ID, wallet to other Sony devices

Chances are you represent one (or 12) members of the 38 million-strong PlayStation Network community. At CES in Las Vegas, Kaz Hirai confirmed Sony's intention to expand the PSN well beyond the PS3 and PSP. As the above slide shows, Sony's premium video offerings will expand to some of Sony's other products, including Bravia televisions and VAIO laptops. Taking a page from Microsoft's Live Anywhere philosophy, a single user ID and password will work across all Sony products and services. Going a step further, the PSN virtual wallet can be used universally across Sony's services.

To help facilitate the cross-proliferation of content across Sony's multiple devices, Hirai also announced the creation of a new division within Sony: the not-very-creatively named Sony Network Entertainment, Inc. With this new initiative, expect the PSN logo to be far more ubiquitous than ever before.

Now if this gives me access to more content in Canada (wishful thinking) I'll be a happy man.

There are MANY countries for which even the basic PSN service is not officially available, their names don't appear in the list of countries in the PSN account sign-up form. Examples: Estonia, Costa Rica, Morocco, China, Philippines

Yes Canada needs more content from Sony for their PSN, but I won't hold my breath since it took so long for Apple to add content to the Canadian iTunes store.

I've ignored everything Sony has announced since E3 2008 outside of a narrowly defined space of gaming.

My hopes for a Video Store in Canada have pretty much completely diminished. I have no expectation that the comic store will ever be available in Canada and I though I expect a Music Store to eventually come around as well, that will never come to Canada either.

So just stick to pirating whatever you want.

Well, of course it wouldn't be exciting for someone who doesn't own any of the devices...

yeah, my device ranges from standard def TV's to my ps3, so i won't be benefiting very much from this program right away.

I haven't been on PSN in ages. Probably because Xbox Live, Netflix, and pretty much everything not Sony are pretty much offering the same stuff.

The only way your prediction would come true would be if Microsoft did nothing. So in other words your asking us to believe you're an idiot?

But the PS3 doesn't have Halo, unfortunately.

I have both an Xbox 360 and a PS3 and I honestly don't see why I should be paying for Xbox Live. The Xbox 360 interface has more detail and color. You can tell there was more thought put into it. The XMB on the PS3 is much cleaner, yet much simpler. I can find stuff much easier, faster and at a better sense of convenience on the PS3. However there is just something about the Xbox 360's interface that just feels better, smoother.

'Feelings' aside, there isn't enough of a drastic difference that I see any reason with any merit to pay for Xbox Live. Don't get me wrong, Xbox Live is really cheap. Comes to just cents a day if you get the full year all at one shot. The price isn't the matter though, it's the principle. Why should I pay for something that Microsoft would be making money off of anyway, whether they charge for it or not?

XBOX LIVE: See what online games friends are playing and join them from the nxe dashboard - Unified "invite friend to game" nxe interface - You can accept or decline a game invite from the invite message or just pushing the guide during the invite notification - ingame friend and party voice chat - More detailed profile info (Location, Bio) - Game patches download in seconds - No installation required for games and demos - etc, etc...

The biggest difference, the reason why I pay for Xbox Live, is because all my friends have it. I am the only one, out of a group of 5 or 6 friends, that owns a PS3. It really does suck, because they're all hardcore fanboys, so I lose, and they lose. but I play all my online games on xbox, with them.

Let's see some of this content in Canada Sony!

Very exciting news all around from this press conference. Wonderful job, Sony.

I'm shocked they're starting a move away from Memory Stick.

Same here. In fact, I just got a Sony Handycam, and in the manual, the only option was the Memory Pro Stick Duo. I thought they were proud to have that as the upmost option.

No! At least sony can add the ability to change PSN ID names, I don't like mine no more... Or then ill be stuck making a new one.

Don't count on that one, ps3 players have wanted that for years and it hasn't happened, I really doubt it will happen at all.
