Not sure how I feel about this, I don't see the appeal in playing extremely old arcade/atari games anymore. I think me and my friends would rather just be in a regular party and play MW2 or something similar instead.

I actually agree. I don't think time has been too good to these games. I just don't have the urge to play them anymore.

I actually like the idea of playing these old retro games on a new console.

But my wii already does that, in their original form, without some Second Life/Home shell in between me and the games. Even the XBLA already has a lot of these classics. Game Room just seems like a lengthier way of getting to them.

Even though it was an awful port (no turn based multiplayer ftl), Galaga is probably my most played Xbox 360 game.

Having the option to play arcade perfect games with their multiplayer in tact (even turn based games!) is a huge win in my book. I don't see how this can be seen as anything other than awesome news, unless you only took up gaming with the PS1.

@Granger.

I had Galaga on the wii and it had turn based multiplayer.

Yes, but it was the NES version (I hope it was at least, Galaga '88 / '90 makes me a sad panda). And while that's alright, I'd much rather have the arcade version. Plus the XBLA version had leaderboards, so even though you couldn't have 1v1 high score battles, you could still duke it out with your friends list trying to top theirs.

Well, I take that back... If you live in Japan, you can get the Arcade version on Virtual Console Arcade. Cool beans! Local Multiplayer ftw anyways!

While that sounds cool...I'd almost rather play them on the actual hardware. However, I do appreciate what they're trying to do.

This looks awesome, but the second they said "trick out your arcade, it has the abysmal smell of microtransactions all over it.

exactly what I thought! I don't even consider the MS points system 'micro-transactions' as I have to buy set packages of points that can not be returned for money back. This meant that when The Ballad of Gay Tony came out (in the short run) it actually cost me more than the advertised price - it will probably be a year before I spend the remaining points.

"can you honestly say that looking at such an ugly game as doom does not hamper your enjoyment?"

Not really. Hell I'm playing FF7 and that game hasn't aged at all, and it's still one of the most enjoyable rpgs I've ever played.

I know this is of a different era but it's semi-related. The other day I hooked up my N64, popped in Goldeneye and I actually struggled to get through it. Not because of the difficulty, just the fact at how outdated it is, I was trying to force myself to like it, but I couldn't.

FPS's almost never age well. I tried to play Agent Under Fire (PS2!) and wanted to beat my head into the wall.

The early 3D era in general just hasn't aged well. The N64's camera control issues really hurt in today's era.

I don't know, some FPS's age just fine. Doom is still a joy to play, and it was one of the first.

Oh yeah, the extremely well developed ones do. Controls for PC FPS's haven't changed, though. On consoles, they've changed a lot.

I never said Quake. It's just plain not fun anymore. Doom is great though, if you remap the controls to something a bit more comfortable it holds up pretty well. Maybe it doesn't compare to Crysis but that's not the point. I'm just saying it's still fun to play.

Sorry, never said Quake 1. Quake III is still a great multiplayer FPS because it's simple, fast paced, and balanced. It might not be easy on the eyes but the gameplay is solid and if you don't have some sort of elitist allergy to older graphics it's still a blast to play.

I can't disagree more about Doom. Play that game now on nightmare and it's easily as exciting and interesting as some of the best FPS games now.

Oh yes, because games are ALL ABOUT THE GRAPHICS. By your logic, Lair was the best game of 2007.

Get your head out of your ass. A good game is a good game no matter what it looks like. I still play text games with more story and gameplay than a certain PS3 game. *cough* FF13 *cough*

Could be cool. If the all games were free with an xbox live gold membership it may just be enough to bring me back to gold, if they're not, well, I guess I'm keeping my money.

I wouldn't put it past MS to charge at least some MS points to 'buy' the game. Maybe it'll be like a real arcade and will make you pay per play!! HA HA! (i kid)

To keep this alive Microsoft is going to have to keep updating with new games and not just keep those 30 there. The ability to implement cabinets for previous Arcade games bought like Pac Man, Sonic or even Mega Man 9 would be a great touch as well.

I'm curious as to if I can walk around with my Avatar in the game room. I mean, sure it'd be fun to paly old arcade games, but sometiems I just wanna go and hang with my friends in a virtual lounge sometimes. I mean, whats the good of Avatars besides that?

I wonder if there will be achievements in the game room. Maybe a George Costanza Achievement for getting the high score in Frogger. That'd be nifty.

I really don't get what this adds to the experience you can get by just selecting the games from a menu, except for the walking stuff which gets old after about 3 times doing it (just like Home).
