In this instance you're just an idiot. Where else can you get a comparable portable? Thus, this is newsworthy.

Here's some video of it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmsNjoiv1Ww&feature=related

Looks like a solid machine, but it'd be nice if it had a faster processor. I think the sweet spot for me would be a 13" with a Core i5 and a slightly beefier GPU.

Dell says the 3dMark 06 score is 6,000-7,000 which seems respectable. My C2D E6600 with 7900 GT two years ago scored around that much. Synthetic benchmarks aren't the best indicator of real world performance, but I think this laptop should perform nicely.

Wait for them to update this: http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/05/lg-debuts-13-3-inch-xnote-p310-premium-laptop/

If LG can fit a 9600M Into a 13.3in notebook I'm sure they can fit in a 335M in an update. Though I don't think this has US availability.

I wouldn't buy another LG laptop, mine only lasted 2 years and it was bust. Apparently the motherboard went, and if I wanted to get a new motherboard for it - it was 500 dollars (Just for the part). Also - they said that the overall design of it wasn't good.

To me, I've pretty much given up on laptops as completely. Maybe I'll just get a cheap - 500 dollar netbook with the half processor power of the mighty atom just to spit on the grave of my previous laptop.

Battery life with graphics card active: you see the desktop for a few seconds, and then it dies.

Battery life has improved in recent years. If a netbook can get 6 hours from a tiny 2-cell Li-Polymer battery, a four or six cell Li-on should do fine.

I hope this lappy has some monster cooling. I've got a Gateway FX laptop that's an 18 inch beast and it gets toasty just playing Dawn of War 2. I'd hate to imagine trying to run anything high end on this tiny thing.

If this was a desktop, I'd agree with you(self-built ftw), but this is a crazy laptop, with very nice specs and price. Although you could configure an HP for cheaper. This is very compact.

How the hell am I supposed to game on an 11.6 inch screen? That's about the size of my Eee netbook, and I can't imagine enjoying that.

BTW, just finished watching V for Vendetta. That shit was off the hook. Fun fact: the dude who played Sutler, John Hurt, was Winston Smith in the film adaptation of 1984. Quite ironic.

Agreed, I love that movie. I tend to tell myself "Let's just watch that part" on impulse and then end up watching the whole movie from the start of the selected scene.

This computer seems pretty awesome though. The future me probably won't game much else except for a few games though. Maybe "Starcraft II", "Diablo III", "Dragon Age", and "EvE" hold my eternal interest. The commmunities will be insane for the first two, great for the third and the fourth... Well, you know ;D .

You do realize you can build your own notebooks and such, right? I mean, you're still paying for the Alienware brand. Derp.

I doubt this is going to be seriously comparable to a desktop. Maybe an old Macintosh or something like that, but not a gaming rig by today's standards. Sorry.

I'm most likely either getting this, or the Asus UL30Vt when they release the silver version with the bigger battery. The Asus is less about gaming, but still has a G210 discrete GPU.

....only 720p? Seriously?

I'm sorry, but you have to run at native monitor resolutions for PC games, otherwise it really doesn't count. It also has to run at maximum settings.

Lots of PCs can 'play' crysis, but very very few can play it at high resolutions (1080p+) with everything maxed out and not have issues.

Eh, 1280x720 vs the screen's native 1366x768. Close enough.

Why the crap would they worry about an 11.6 inch laptop playing games at 1920x1200?

You realize that most people can't tell the difference between 720p and 1080p? Seriously, are you holding out for 2160p or something? It's a great deal for a great package.

My issue isn't really with the PC or the specs, it's the marketing.

"yes, it can play crysis"

Well crysis has been playable for a while, just not with everything topped out. When you spend $1500 on a top end CPU and graphics cards for a desktop, cool them to sub zero temperatures and overclock only to play it at high settings at lower resolutions, that's not really what you want. even the most new cutting edge high-end desktop cards still have trouble maxing the game. A completely maxed out game will be when I can finally confidently say "it can play crysis".

Crysis has been the one game you can't max out everything on and have it play fantastic. So lowering the bar for "it can play crysis" is a bit of a misnomer. That's my issue, and lowering the resolution is kind of cheating, in my book.

a fifteen hundred dollar computer could most likely run crysis at at least 1680x1050 at all settings high-max at 40-60 fps.

i should know, my computer cost 2000 to make over a year ago (including monitor and keyboard etc), and thats what it can do in crysis, and all the parts in my computer are at least half price now, or close.

Give the laptop a break, I believe it will perform quite nicely. I've seen Crysis run on "high" settings with an average setup today. No doubt it will perform well on an overpowered laptop O_o .

Since Dell bought Alienware they've upgraded their build quality to the same as their business laptop line (way better than their questionable consumer line) it's going to be sturdier than a lot of other notebooks as well.
