Electronic Arts is really pushing to gain ground in the battle for FPS multiplayer popularity. Speaking with MCV, EA Europe senior VP Jens Uwe Intat proclaimed that March's launch of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will be the publisher's "first strong attack" launched on Call of Duty. By that stream of logic, we're guessing the Medal of Honor reboot would be the second?
Intat believes that if any studio can take on Modern Warfare, it's DICE. He reiterates that the "shooter" genre is important to the publisher and that EA is "certainly working on how [it] can get that crown back." Meanwhile, Bungie sips a mocha and buffs Halo 3 on the mantel.

Hi I don't follow the herd. I am different and special. My tastes are one of a kind. With that said MW2 is not a good game. I haven't played it but just sayin'.

Personally Battlefield Bad Company already surpassed COD4 by a mile and while I will reserve judgment between mw2 and bc2 I have much higher expectations ofr bc2 then i did for mw 2.

Sure, whatever you say EA. You CANNOT change the fact that two brilliant games CAN co-exist. People won't suddenly stop buying Moder Warfare, would they, as long as IW maintains the quality? No, they will still go ahead and buy it. They will buy your BF games too. Especially, when both of them are paced months apart.
Will people stop buying Mass Effect 2 because Bioshock 2 is coming soon? No.
You guys fight as much as you want. Just give us a good product, man.

that is not at all what he is saying. He wants to make a better game. Are land rovers and escalades good suv's? well thats a bad example because rovers are not worth the metal they are stamped out of but you get the idea. Better, not the only one.

I hope to god that Bad company doesnt become as popular as MW. BC1 was a buggy lag infested steaming pile of cow sh*t that people were stupid enough to spend $60 on. and judging from what people are saying about the ps3 beta, BC2 is going to be just like BC1.

Cant wait... the new 4 player squad battles is a great idea. My Battlefield: Bad Company disc spends more time in my XBox then MW2 does/ever will...

I love checking the comments in BC2 threads...
Just because MW2 is so popular doesn't mean you all need to bash it like some snobbish hipters. It's ok to enjoy it, really, it is.
I'm not saying that BC2 is going to be a terrible game (I had a few good matches in the beta)... but is it competition for MW2? Not really. I'm sure all the nerds here think it is, but I will be very very surprised if in its entire life BC2 sells half of what MW2 has already sold.

and I know its going to happen so let me make a statement against it before the fact:
sheeple of joystiq, i am NOT a MW fanboy. while they are good (but over rated) games, I don't own MW1 or 2.

If it wasn't for the huge fucking maps of BC2 I would enjoy it, but I can't. Every time I spawn I get killed by a sniper from god knows where, then I spawn again this time with no vehicles in site. So I ran my ass to the other side of the map to yet again be killed by a sniper god knows where. Repeat process.

Battlefield is the king of modern warfare. Call of Duty made a lot of money but the games are garbage.

I've always found the Battlefield series to be incredibly boring. Bigger maps plus more people doesn't equal fun for me. It always seemed like I was sprinting across the huge maps just find somebody.

The original Bad Company sucked to be honest. I started playing it before MW2 and then just stopped. Then after beating MW2 I picked it up again and it was a chore to play. The graphics looked horrible and the play controls seemed so clumsy and tedious compared to MW2. The missions were strung together poorly and the so called comic relief from the other characters became a chore to sit through. I stopped playing it...again. One of the few games I couldn't force myself to play through.
Bad Company 2 better be represent a fresh start...a totally new perspective because the original stunk. The engine better have been overhauled as well.

Actually, the first strong attack on Call of Duty games has been around for a very long time.
It's called Battlefield 2.
And if you don't/haven't played it, you really aren't an FPS gamer worthy of the mouse and keyboard in my book.
I've got Modern Warfare. I really liked the game... it was solid. Beat single player in a night, and still play multiplayer from time to time.
One problem... it's really just Counterstrike Source again with a bit more polish and a cool advancement system. It's awesomely smooth, and I can really lay down some punishment in free for all.
However... it's just a distraction. The most rich gameplay in an online FPS still resides in Battlefield 2. The reason I say this is because it actually forces you to use your brain instead of just your eyes and mouse.
You have to strategize for your team while fighting, land, sea, and air. Not helicopters that some lame kid calls in by pressing 6. Helicopters piloted by 2 living, breathing enemy players. You'll face tanks, APCs, etc. And if you don't like that, play Infantry Only mode, which is STILL actually more rewarding to play than Modern Warfare.
There's a small learning curve to the game, true, and the action isn't 100% as fast and furious at all times because the maps are a lot bigger (and better). But the addition of ACTUAL strategy (which flag to take actually matters, your commander matters, your squad leaders matter, reviving fallen teammates matters, etc etc), in squad based play, really makes the difference.
Once you're good at fighting infantry in BF2, you still need to learn how to be a good chopper pilot, attack helo pilot, jet pilot, tank driver, APC, engineer, anti-tank, etc. Too much for you? That's why I was saying you don't deserve that mouse.
To conclude, BF2 is still king of the PC FPS market to real gamers. Sure, call of duty sells tons of games, and is great, but it doesn't strike on that true richness that legendary games such as Starsiege Tribes and Battlefield 2 strike on.

I hope there is a demo for this when it drops. MW2 is okay, but for me doesn't have the same appeal and fun as COD4 did(lookin' at you Akimbo Shotguns and absurd knife classes). A change of pace would be nice.

Take the crown back? When did they have it?
Posted: Jan 12th 2010 9:22AM (Unverified) said
They had the crown when they created battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2... two of the best games of all time.
A bunch of dumb console jockeys hopped on that Call of Duty franchise, though, and, money talks.
The BF series is really good gameplay, but it's not really publicized or advertised correctly/enough. It's for gamers with a brain who also want some action.
Also, BF2 is Xfire game #6 or 7 after more than 5 years since release... that's pretty solid, considering it's a PC only title.
