Yup this is the Zelda we've all wanted for years now but we know we'll never get from Nintendo at least. One reason is because of their fear of change, and another being their fear of making anything geared toward people older than 11

At least the other Japanese devs make changes. Zelda hasn't changed since Ocarina, and Mario hasn't changed since SM64.

Even with Zelda, it hasn't really changed since a link to the past. The only major addition to ocarina of time was the 3D graphics, it sitll used the same formula.

I think I would have liked the twilight princess if it wasn't an exact duplicate of okami.

Or if it wasn't exactly like every other 3D Zelda, but with lousier controls.

This sounds cool but it isn't exactly the Zelda I've wanted for years like you say, Tmac. I don't want the Master Sword's name to be changed to 'Chaoseater' and Hyrule to be a post-apocalyptic wasteland or anything. Yes, some updates should be made for the new Zelda game, but nothing completely crazy, please.

I don't mind imitators if they are done well, though. I don't know why people get so upset about games that copy other games. As long as it's fun, who cares. Just like how people are saying Dante's Inferno is a God of War rip. So what? If it's a polished, fun game, then why wouldn't you want it?

I still want my Zelda to be a 'Zelda game', but if another game can introduce new characters, settings, etc. while following the Zelda game style, go for it. This game sounds pretty good to me.

The formula could use a reboot, certainly, but you're deluding yourselves if you think that the gameplay hasn't constantly evolved.

No it hasn't. I'm playing through Twilight Princess and I still fight a mini boss halfway through a dungeon and get a new tool right after, then use that new tool on the dungeon boss. It's literally the same thing I did on the SNES.

Funny, tmac: Darksiders is fun, but everything from the art design to the plot are about as "mature" and "adult" as a shitty Spawn comic. It's trying way, way too hard to be "edgy' as the review states, catering to angsty teenage boys. I'll take Zelda's all-ages approach to Darksiders' puerile, lowest common denominator pandering.

Eh, I disagree. War's a tightass, so he comes off as a guy who practices sneering and growling in the mirror at night, but the plot also points out that is *why* he's in this situation when the game starts. He and his attitude of "the law, the balance, and revenge above all else" were the core of the plot and the reasoning behind his being there rather than one his "brothers".

It's hard to get into it any further without digging up spoilers, but while Darksiders isn't high tea on the storytelling veranda, I also felt like it wasn't simply a matter of trying to be edgy and dark circa 1999. I think it was there as a plot device, or at least it was explained as such over the course of the game to my satisfaction.

"Yup this is the Zelda we've all wanted for years now but we know we'll never get from Nintendo at least."

Hahaha- all this time the ONE thing I thought you actually understood was the problems Zelda has.
...and clearly now I see you don't. You're one of those kids who thinks they need to stick the series in a more modern era and, going by the sound of this review, leave everything else the exact same.

Do me a favor tmac- go play Okami first and THEN come talk about what Zelda needs to do to it's formula.

And by the way:
"I'm playing through Twilight Princess and I still fight a mini boss halfway through a dungeon and get a new tool right after, then use that new tool on the dungeon boss. It's literally the same thing I did on the SNES."

This is FORMULA. Not gameplay.

What are you talking about?

In Link to the Past, you traveled to various temples and had to defeat their guardians, grab a new item to use, and continue working towards your final confrontation, likely with Ganondorf, and ultimately saving Princess Zelda with each successive temple utilizing all of the previously learned skills and acquired items.

In Ocarina of Time, you traveled to various temples and had to defeat their guardians, grab a new item to use, and continue working towards your final confrontation, likely with Ganondorf, and ultimately saving... oh. Hrm.

Well, in Twilight Princess, you traveled to various temples and had to defeat their guardians, grab a new item to... goddamnit. :(

All true--although it's definitely worth noting that MAJORA'S MASK is substantially different. In fact, as far as I know there hasn't been a game quite like MM since.

Ebylon! Twilight Princess was totally not like the others! First off, you were trying to stop some wizard at first, not Ganondorf.

Second off, when you did get to him, you know what you could do? Beat him with a freaking fishing pole. I kid you not. That guy is hardcore into shiny things, and the second the hook and bobber go over his head, he stops and follows it, leaving his chest wide open for a smack. You know what he does then? Goes to attack, but link just casts the line out and Ganon goes "Oooo hehe shiny!" all over again.

Besides, Midna riding on Link's back as a wolf is about as close to him getting laid as he ever will get.

I just got the first boss heart and I'm really enjoying it overall. It is pretty much what Zelda should be nowadays, and it keeps reminding me just how bored I am with Twilight Princess and the typical Zelda formula as a whole. But I'm definitely enjoying Darksiders' more mature take on these types of games.

It's influenced by it, enough that you can see that it's influenced by Zelda, but it doesn't follow it 100%. It expands and improves on it.

The game is awesome. The best way for me to describe it is God of War + Zelda + Prototype (in a good way). I've been singing its praises all week and anyone interested in playing a fantastic game should pick it up right away. The voice acting is some of the best in recent memory.

It's a review of the Xbox version though. The PS3 version doesn't have the screen tearing, so that would require a separate review.

How is no-one else picking up on the similarities to the Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver games? My wife also saw similarities to another Silicon Knights-related title, Eternal Darkness.

I am thoroughly enjoying this game, despite some sharp difficulty curve issues in certain places.

Unfortunately, barely anyone played Soul Reaver (The best PSX game in my opinion). Its a real shame as Darksiders is more like an updated Soul Reaver than an updated Zelda.

Negative points for not having Simon Templeman and Tony Jay, though. (Yes, I know the latter is dead.)

I'll definitely pick this game up once there is a sale for it. Futureshop/Best Buy usually have sales for new releases after a month or so of its release date.

At least I'm hoping there'll be a sale.
