While we were flipping through the Facebook this morning, looking for pictures of Bobby Jones with that tramp Kelly Sue Eakins, we couldn't help but notice that our best buds on Ubisoft's Splinter Cell account had put up a sweet new pic. The snap captures our pals helping out some Russian friends with their makeovers (aren't they the nicest guys?), though we can't make any sense of the inexplicable caption below the image that reads, "Co-op mode split screen confirmed!" What does that have to do with makeovers, guys? Come on!

Looks good so far. I've always been a fan of Splinter Cell - hopefully Conviction doesn't disappoint!

By the way, does it look to anyone else like Mel Gibson is being elbowed in the face in the right screen?

That guy killed his daughter and wouldn't give him back his son. Mel deserves a hug not an elbow!

Steam has a page for it in their store, so I assumed it would be coming out for PC... >_>

Also a PC tag on the article. I'd say it'll certainly have split screen co-op as well though obviously I can't confirm it. But, if it does relrease for PC it'll have co-op.

The game won't have Mercs. vs. Spys!
What...the...fuck...
Will it have any multiplayer?

@Faulty Hardware
Nope.
The guy from Ubisoft on Major Nelson's Podcast (about a month ago? max?) Said while not having Mercs vs Spies, it will have a "Spy vs Spy" mode (2 players total) which you can manipulate with AI "mercs" or just guard dudes that patrol around, making your hunt for each other more interesting / difficult.
While it still sounds fun, it doesn't sound hours on top of hours fun like Mercs vs Spies was.

Yes, it's coming to PC. It was confirmed at E3 2009, but Microsoft just likes to call it exclusive.
The PC version will have co-op but I'm not sure about split-screen, though it would be very nice if it did have it. Left 4 Dead did split-screen on PC and it worked great. Valve included the split-screen code but didn't give any official support, so it required some tinkering to get it to work, but when it did it was a lot of fun -- one guy on KB/M and another on a 360 controller.

Color me surprised. The number of games with local co-op is pathetically low this generation.

No kidding. This is still one of favorite features, because it's never as much fun playing with your buddies over the net as it is having them right there next to you joking around and hollering. My interest in this game just increased.

Yeah, just Halo 3, L4D1+2, GOW1+2, Borderlands, MW2, Fable 2, R6V1+2, RE5... (rolls eyes)

It's so irritating. Even racing games rarely have it these days. If I want to play co-op, that pretty well leaves me with sports games, Halo 3/ODST, Resistance, and CoD5.

Campaign, jackass.
Fable II doesn't count. Neither does MW2.

Compared to the amount of games that have released that is a pathetic amount of titles. As far as I know Fable 2 co-op isn't split screen it's just one shared screen.

It's a shame Resistance 2 only has online co-op. It's a great game (one of the best FPS this generation) but the lack of local co-op hindered my enjoyment especially when the first game had it.

@space: It's actually 11 games, with the ellipsis implying the list continued ;)
I get the point that by volume there might not be many local coop games, but in terms of quality we're doing alright.

Burnout Paradise without split screen is as epic fail as you can get.
I can't wait for this game, GOTY 2010 CONFIRMED!
Hopefully the multiplayer is as good as it was on Chaos Theory.

Smooth is the pessimist and Shadsy is the optimist. We'll see whose right once the game releases. The plot thickens.

i dont see how the special kill power is the game playing itself any more than tagging targets with the call of juarez special ability, or even the special abilities in Borderlands. Games have special abilities, QQ

Thankfully they have local co-op. have publishers forgot that sometimes, there is another person in the room to play with?
This looks good so far.

I apologise for listing some of the best games of the past few years, all of which feature local coop.

Still a pathetically low amount of titles. Probably less than 5% of PS360 games have local campaign co-op or co-op of any kind.

Granted, but a lot of decent devs (Valve, Bungie, Epic...) are still making the effort. I think the simple fact is that coop doesn't cut it anymore if you're literally just dropping a second character into the single player mode (ala Halo 1/2), so a lot of devs don't bother to include it unless they're pushing coop as the main gameplay concept (eg Borderlands, L4D, RE5).

Why don't they count? They're great fun to play in local coop.

Because MW2 isn't campaign coop, due to Infinity Ward's lame ass excuses about 'ruining the immersion' and Fable II is a half-assed attempt. The game didn't need co-op.

No one said there weren't any local co-op games. The point is the amount of them is virtually non existent. A game should have local and online co-op ... not one without the other. Killzone 2 was perfect fit for local or online co-op because most of the game was played with a squad mate.

How is MW2's seperate Co-Op campaign not count? Isn't Splinter Cell Conviction's co-op a separate experience as well?

Split...... Screen? What is this crazy future technology? I always thought such a thing was of legends, heard only in the book of genesis, and snes.
