How much lower can they go? I think that they are very reasonable for their respective prices. I wouldn't mind more drops, but I thought the recent ones had driven sales up considerably.

$150, and then $100 as competition gets fiercer. Same as happens in every console generation. It may not seem like it, but if it weren't for how drawn out this console cycle is turning out to be - all of these would be reaching the end of their lifespans. Irregardless, price drops are a great way to increase your user base and thus make money off of game sales - even if you're losing a lot on each console sale.

given the performance of the dollar and the outlook of a further devalued dollar on the horizon for the next year or so, I'd say we could see some price cuts. PSP Go will be dropped to $199 by July, there's my prediction.

Wii will drop to 150 to 175.

PSP Go will drop to 200

Xbox Elite will hit 250 and the Pro model will drop to compete with the Wii.

Sony will launch a 500 gig PS3 for 350-400 and the 160 and 250 will drop fifty dollars.

This will happen before the end of the year... And those are my predictions.

YOUR MOVE PACHTER!

I don't think it's to late.Considering all this talk going around about 10+ year life cycles. Announce it at e3 release it in the fall, bundle it with Natal this winter take some momentum away from sony. And this is if they can shrink the hardware down and get it to turn on.

i doubt this would happen thanks to microsoft's choice of hard drives, but admittedly the combination of natal and a new (perhaps price-reduced) xbox 360 slim would be a killer in sales.

Microsoft almost HAS to do something. For someone without a console right now, how could you recommend a 360? This is coming from the guy who went into CSI mode and figured out about the "Second Launch" of the 360.

Let's face it: You get a less reliable piece of hardware. You get a better online service, but it comes at a price, and Sony is rapidly catching up with a really solid marketplace.

And while the 360 may have more games, their exclusive lineup last year left a lot to be desired. I mean, Shadow Complex won several 360 GOTY awards. I mean, I love SC, but it winning is more of a testament to its lackluster lineup than SC's awesomeness (and I fucking love that game. I probably spent 20 hours or so on that thing.)

I have both consoles, and they're both awesome. But until the 360 adds a free year of XBL in their package, drops the price another $50, extends their 3 year warranty to all hardware failures, or adds a bigger HDD, the PS3 seems the way to go right now.

Even after the PS3 slim launch, and the massive PS3 price cuts since launch, the 360 continues to outsell it in english speaking regions.

I am not sure MS needs to do anything at the moment. They aren't losing much ground.

Honestly, and I don't mean this to sound fanboyish, I could never buy a Playstation 3 as anything other than secondary to a 360. Too many broken multiconsole titles - I'm not going to buy an inferior version of a $60 title. Maybe if there were a lot more exclusives, but LBP and Uncharted 2 just aren't enough to make up for that weakness. For me at least. I don't care about MGS4 (sorry, I'm sure it's a good game but I'd have to get caught up on the franchise first), Killzone 2, and Heavy Rain just looks...like an interesting novelty, not something I'd buy.

The 360 might see a hardware revision and a Natal camera pack in. The PS3 Slim might see some new colors, bundles, larger hard drives, etc. The Wii might get another pack in game and a motion plus along with some new colors. But honestly, it wouldn't surprise me one bit of none of them got an official price drop. *MAYBE* we'll see $50 across the board, but that's pushing it IMO.

The PSP Go? That'll be $200 before the year is out or it's dead. That might also mean we'll see a drop on the Brite to $150. Maybe. Then again, we might see a Brite redesign like we heard rumored, but I have my doubts on that. As for the DS, I think we'll finally see the Lite get phased out with the introduction of the XL, which will be priced $20-$50 more then the DSi, which will also get a price drop closer to the $150 mark.

Not trying to flame but I just don't get the 360. Why wouldn't anyone just get a PS3. I can only think that the compelling reason to buy the 360 at this stage, over a PS3, is because of the lower cost, but personally I view that as pretty nominal, unless you were to get the Arcade version and just put up with its gimpedness. The 360 made more sense to me when the PS3 either wasn't released yet or way too expensive, or when the 360 clearly had the best games and best internet, but now it doesn't appear to have the best of anything. Even if Live is better than PSN it costs money so for the likes of me it's never going to be first choice.

I've got a 360 and PS3, and I'm happy with both.

If I had to defend a 360 though;
- 360 exclusives like Halo & Gears of War
- I've found XBL is a better service than PSN (you get what you pay for)
- XBL DLC exclusives
- Some 360 versions are actually better than the PS3 versions (eg. Bayonetta)
- Cheaper

If I had to defend a PS3:
- Blu-ray
- Uncharted 2 & Gran Tourismo
- Doesn't force you to buy as much 1st party hardware
- PSN is free

I don't think any number of price cuts can help the Go now. Anything that is available on the Go is also available for the regular PSP, which is much cheaper and is UMD enabled. What Sony needs to do is to come up with some kind of AAA title that is Go exclusive, though that may be difficult because I'm not sure the Go is any different, hardware wise, to the 3000. Maybe a downloadable game so big that it requires more storage space than any conventional memory stick can hold. Or maybe a second analog stick.

Just to continue this line of thought, and I'm just stating my opinion here, not trying to flame or hate, and I am a staunch PS fan, have been since PS1.

Halo and Gears of War would certainly be the first games I'd get for the 360, along with Forza 3 and Project Gotham. However none of these can be considered genre leaders, certainly not anymore. Even the most recent releases of Halo and Gears of War have had luke-warm receptions. With the FPS genre in particular, there are plenty of great games on both consoles, CoD franchise, Battlefield, and of course Killzone 2 isn't too shabby. So IMO, Halo no longer holds the upper hand. It's disappointing to here though that some games, e.g. Bayonetta, are better on 360 still.

In terms of internet access, not having used Live, PSN suits my needs perfectly adequately, and there's no way that I'd want to pay money over the course of several years for the privelege of playing online. Being in my 30s and a worker, I simply don't have the time to justify such a cost over and above the cost of the hardware, accessories and of course games. The subscription model is essentially a deal breaker for me, as is the reliability issues that the 360 is/was known for. To go further, the lack of built in wi-fi also diminishes the value of the internet service provided by 360.

If I were to continue further i'd essentially be getting a bit picky by saying things like the 360 is a somewhat ugly and oversized box, and simply doesn't have the goodness of a PS3 jammed into it.

I guess my real point is that I can understand the 360s initial attraction as it was released prior to the PS3 and when the PS3 has been overpriced. It also did offer genre leading games, notably Halo 3 and Gears of War 1, but that was a while back now. With the exceptions of the occassional sub-standard port (Bayonetta) and the apparently much better internet access, and price advantage, and arguably lower cost games, IMO the 360 loses out to the PS3 on every other count. For me personally, I'm not that fussed about the occassional dud game, there's plenty of quality releases. I'd much rather get free internet access than have to pay a subscription every year. PS3 games seem to be getting cheaper, in Australia at least, both for new releases and older games - i've picked up several games for between $20-30 AUD over the last month. And for me by the time you add in a wireless adaptor, Live subscription, decent hard-drive, the 360 no longer appears to be a bargain. If it were $199 AUD for the elite model, with built in wi-fi, good reliability and cheaper subscription I'd be sorely tempted. Till then, MS will need to release a handheld 360 to get me excited.

Microsoft is the one that's going to need to salvage the situation the most, i think. They need to stop their marketshare slide, and their last price-drop proved most effective.

I could see Microsoft putting some form of HDD-equipped console at a 199 price point. Sony could probably cut the Slim to 250 or so by then, with the 250GB model going to 299 to combat Microsoft.

The Wii? I don't think they'll cut it until October at the absolute earliest, and even then to 150 at the most.

My prediction for the 360 by the end of 2010

$299.99 - 360 elite 120gb w/ natal, or 250gb w/o natal
$249.99 - 360 120gb, maybe some bundle (this is the biggest "maybe" for me)
$199.99 - 360 pro - arcade discontinued since it stopped making sense to sell a 360 without a hard drive 4 years ago.

my prediction is that his predictions are way off....

the prices were just recently dropped i dont see sony really making a hasty move like that since it was already difficult enough for them to do it the first time.

Microsoft wants to compete but i dont think they want to start losing money on each console sold. this is a greedy corporation were talking about here. i don't think they'll get that desperate.

i see more promotions coming around though with sonys wand and MSofts Natal bundled with the system for a few dollars more (25-50 maybe?)

i could see the wii dropping again though but much later than the summer time, probably winter time again. i think nintendo is already much too confident with their console despite the price point. the recent price drop was probably only to counter microsofts 200 arcade bundle, which was a pretty logical thing to do.
im also certain that for every system for nintendo sells theres a big gain since its using outdated hardware anyway. that in conjunction to the huge sales numbers their first party games are pulling i think theyre doing fine.
