I was very upset when I saw the style of this game. The original CC was flawed, but still a good multiplayer game. I think if Square wouldve kept the original game's formula, but made minor improvements (the magic system) this game could have been outstanding.

Yeah it has not been reviewed very favorably so far (like 67 or something on metacritic). I was actually considering buying it back in November until I actually started reading about it and reading japanese impressions and seeing how awful it is.

Disappointed that it turned out to be terrible, but at least I can put that $50 towards something good now like Splinter Cell.

Hahaha..... You're not serious... G4TV is only good for Ninja Warrior, and even then they're milking that dry.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers. Can they think of a longer name for the next game? How about....

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers Burden of Hauling this Freakin Crystal Across the World with a Giant Yellow Chicken while Trying Not to get Killed by Random Monsters that Suddenly Appear out of Nowhere II

Yeah...that'll work.

By the way, has anyone ever wondered what a Chocobo would taste like? I'm thinking it's like a mix of Chicken and Coco Crispies. :)

I'm certainly enjoying it so far, but I don't think I'm as far as you've gotten, Jaysee. I guess when I get to that boss you speak of, I'll be able to determine how I really feel about it.

One thing I've heard people complain about the game is how you can't speak with most of the NPCs... but if you're like me and you throw children off balconies, it's not hard to see why they wouldn't want to talk to Layle. Plus, the fact that most people look down upon Crystal Bearers anyways doesn't help.

Certainly no-one listens to X-play when it comes to Wii games anymore. It's pretty much feed for those who have already made up their minds against the Wii

Too damn short (in terms of story), and quite a few stability problems (framerate quite often, and it froze on me once).

Otherwise, i found it quite enjoyable. The minigames were hit or miss, though i especially enjoyed Ballroom Dancing and "Save the Selkies from Genocide." My favorite was the various campaigns against monsters. There is pretty much one per region (that isn't a city or really small), and then there are later campaigns in most of the regions. A lot of stuff to do beyond the story, which is fortunate because i beat the thing in 10 hours anyway, but got a further 7 hours or so doing campaigns, and i still only had about 50% of the game's achievements (they call them medals) when i set it aside.

I have no idea what boss this person is talking about. I do know when the games fights ramp up in difficulty so I can only suspect that he's talking about the Blaze fight, which, once you learn what to do it's a joke.

Other then that, when the fights get difficult you can just skip them and come back when you have better accessories... but nothing is really too hard in this game.

I beat it of course, and am still playing it.
I can understand how some people have camera issues, and I can understand how some people can get lost (I didn't have an issue with either of those) but the story was a lot better then what people make it out to be and the game is WAYYYY better than what critics are making it out to be.

It seems people don't want their hands to be held in games and that "sandbox" games are awesome, but when a game comes out with a story and at any point in time you can just stop and do whatever the hell you feel like, they complain it's a confusing mess. lol Oh people are funny.

I would not skip this game, if you like being creative and exploring, this game is definitely worth a purchase.

Disappointing to hear. If I do get this when it's gone down in price. Yeah, I know, that isn't really supporting the 3rd party games. They should of done better with this ''high budget''.

I really was very interested when this game was first announced, simply because it was different from standard fare. I say "standard fare" not because it's literally standard fare, but because it seems different (as Mr. Fletcher said) from both Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles ... and, of course, because, superficially at least, the story seemed intriguing. (Lilties beating up Yukes? Count me in!)

The fact that it really is as much of a short beat-em-up as I feared it might be is altogether very saddening to hear. With any luck, Final Fantasy will be back on the Wii someday--just not with a game that's just Star Wars: Force Unleashed with Square-Enix face paint.

Holy crap, someone had trouble with this game? This game seriously is not very hard, and I've never been killed in one hit by ANY enemy. Maybe if you don't buy or equip any accessories?

This game was an enjoyable diversion. If you play it straight through it's basically a movie with interactive sequences in the middle. And you can play it straight through, it's not hard in the least. I'm not sure what enemy the reviewer was running into where they were suddenly dying in one hit. Only the final boss gave me any trouble, and I just had to find the right pattern for it.

Even though the main story is basically a series of cutscenes and interactive sequences, it is enjoyable. As the reviewer said, the story is decent and the characters likable. The interactive parts are varied, decently challenging though not hard, and really just plain fun.

If you don't shoot through the main story there's plenty of exploration to be done. There's mini-games, exploration, combat, and plenty of rewards for all of them. The world is more interactive than your average JRPG, though it's certainly no Fallout 3.

Crystal Bearers is basically a Final Fantasy Lite. It is to other Final Fantasies as Plants vs. Zombies is to Starcraft. Obviously this is not a bad thing, but it helps to go in with the proper expectations.

"Crystal Bearers is basically a Final Fantasy Lite."

Depends on what elements of the game you're looking at. To me, FFX was "final fantasy lite" because it was basically press forward for 50 hours (FFXIII is seemingly turning out the same). Anything with as much exploration as crystal bearers trumps it immediately in my book.

How did you not finish this game with 10 hours invested in it? The entire experience is only about 10 hours.

Reviews are good for things like technical limitations/successes but beyond that it's opinion. JC found the game thrilling. Whoever wrote the review for X-Play didn't. Like all entertainment, some will like it, some will hate it, and some will just go "meh."

The first Crystal Chronicles nearly brought my friends and I to the point of strangling each other, in the end however we managed to work through it and accomplish our goal of completing the game. That was where I thought where the beauty of this series lay and with each proceeding installment they've moved further and further away from the teamwork lessons of the first. The fact that this game has hardly any multi-player at all make me wonder what the point of this series is anymore.

I swear...
The darn game came out with multiplayer for the DS and for the DS + Wii. 2 games with multiplayer after the original.

Sure there's the MLaaK and MLaaDL, but that's not to say it won't ever come out with a multiplayer game anymore. Final Fantasy just uses this series to make non-traditional Final Fantasy games.

And it's a friggin' Final Fantasy series!!! The name doesn't mean anything! Just because this title came out with "FFCC" doesn't mean it'll be the same game. ...hardly ANY final fantasy games follow their previous installments anyway.

The first game came out for the Gamecube and used the Game Boy Advance to play,

And the Crystal Chronicles series has always been teamwork focused till now, it's not just a non-traditional venue otherwise we wouldn't have the distinction between it and Final Fantasy Tactics.

And EVERY Final Fantasy takes many elements from the previous installment in it's respective series.

What exactly are you trying to say?

I'm trying to say that you're reacting as if the game will never go back to teamwork.

The two DS games worked on teamwork much like the first one.
And though Final Fantasy games took ideas from previous ones, none of them were ever linear. Only FFCC has ever actually followed a storyline from a previous game (other than FFX-2). But just because this game came out as a non-multiplayer, it doesn't imply future titles won't have multiplayer - like you make it sound like.
And it doesn't make this game any less fun: This game is the most fun-fun most people have had with a Final Fantasy game. ...despite it being short and odd.

This game is tons of fun, gives me hopes for upcoming wii action games in the future and I hope for a sequel.

This game is definitely about the story though, which is what hooks you and keeps you coming back.

Wait, what boss is this? I know I was stuck trying to beat Bahamut at one point. It was all about tossing the sword on the right place... but man aiming was hard.

I need to go back and continue with it, I'm having fun so far on it.

And the soundtrack isn't so shabby, either, it's actually enjoyable.

"For hours, enemies will be minor nuisances, only to suddenly become able to kill you in a single hit after a certain point."

What is the main reason why avoid pretty much everything related to SE/FF.

I'd love to enjoy the games - but they are simply un-enjoyable. After hours of grinding, you forget the story and it becomes only an annoying nuisance. (Nor they provide any way - journal or log - to recall the story.) And without the story and the context all the SE games are pretty much cliche...

this is literally the worst game i've ever played. i bought it on a whim from gamestop and returned it the next day. the characters are annoying, the voice overs are horrible, the script is bad, the fight mechanic doesn't exist, the environment feels like barney's hide and seek, they force feed you all these personality traits of the characters and it made me cringe every time i heard that stupid chick talk with her stupid sass.

once again, and I am dead serious, this is the worst game I have ever played.
