Capcom informed G4 at CES that it's certainly working on "stuff" for Microsoft's Project Natal, including a "brand we haven't seen in a while." The publisher's VP of strategic planning and business development, Christian Svensson, explained that it's creating something "from the ground up for Natal." As he put it, "We're not looking at Natal as 'okay, here's a little Natal gimmick that we've worked into some existing game.'"
Svensson added that Keiji Inafune, Mega Man's papa and head of R&D at Capcom, is "really excited" about working with the peripheral (as demonstrated during Tokyo Game Show's Xbox 360 Creator Panel). Not that Capcom is planning to rush the process, mind you. "We're gonna cook something and it's gonna to take a while to cook."

Oh god, please say it's a Natal version of Street Fighter.
Or Strider Natal.
I'd buy the thing for one of those games.

Dear Joystiq,
Please give Bradwart a job. Just make him cut down boxes or something.

Yeah, but Strider is.
And they could do more than one game. Might be why SSFIV's been taken off the Q1 release schedule.

You are one very confusing/delusional person, Bradwart.
Even though I love Capcom's "older" games, majority of the games I have played that a company reestablishes with new controls never really clicked with me. But when they make a brand new game, Zack and Wiki for example, with the controls in mind and not as a afterthought, I couldn't get enough of it! Hell, I use to be a big Silent Hill fan, but the last few left me wanting something else. Watching the Giantbomb videos of the Wii Silent Hill showed some promise with the Wii system implemented well.
Blah blah blah, I hope they give Natal some Zack and Wiki love!

Ooo Power Stone! Great idea!
I still don't understand why all the hate is on the Wii. Yeah, it doesn't have the same specs and such as the PS3/360/PC, but I still have a bunch of games i really enjoy playing on it and isn't that all that really matters? Then again I own all the consoles and built myself a semi-gaming PC, so I like the variety I have. Being a Wii-only owner though... guess I would actually have time to play all the games I bought. :-\ I kid!
I love the internet for so many reasons, but the downfall is all the negativity people bring with their "e-peens". :(

Seeing as the consumers have yet to really see anything of Natal in action.
It's all just a bunch of talk. This company is doing this, this company is doing that.
I mean, how can Microsoft have true interest in it, if the showed a staged demo of Milo, and dodge ball that wasn't 1:1.
Who is the target audience for Natal? People with large living rooms? Or the majority of 360 owners who have their 360s in their bedroom? "Hey MOM, I kicked a hole in the wall again." "It's alright Son, at least you're off the couch."

It would be ill-advised to change the name now that everyone knows it as Natal. I think they will go with that name, like Zipper is doing with MAG. Even though people might think it sounds a bit dumb at first they soon get used to it and it becomes a brand.
And yes it will be interesting to see how it is implemented in games. I'm holding off my judgment until I see it in action.

The fact that they have to mention its not a gimmick can't be a good thing.

As a Nintendo fan, I expect this to be the first of many annoying announcements. People have been bugging Capcom in particular for exactly this kind of Wii support (ground-up, core oriented games that are built for motion control) since the beginning and, with the possible exception of Zack & Wiki, it really hasn't happened. Seeing a statement like that is kinda like being given the finger.
...on the other hand, as a Nintendo fan, that kind of statement has become all too familiar and pretty much always leads to disappointment in some way or another.
Also: will 100% buy if it's a new Final Fight.

I like how with this statement Capcom was basically saying "Don't worry, it won't be like the majority of our Wii games." Classic.

I am interested in what they have in the works. It's going to take a lot to keep Natal from being a gimmick tho....innovation only goes so far....the rest is on the publishers.

i love the idea of motion controls, but when it comes down to it, i'd rather just use a standard controller. I can't even think of many applications in which motion controls would truly trump a controller/keyboard/mouse.
Maybe for GUI interaction, or some immersion settings (i.e. when leaning in FPS games, dodging attacks, ect.), but nothing that's going to make me get excited for it.
I just find it hard to "get in the game" with motion controls, staring at a TV that remains in one position. I just feel that If I want to run around, shooting people, looking this way and that way, I'd go play paintball/airsoft. Same goes for most sports titles that use motion controls, It's fun for a bit, then you come to the realization, that " It's not quite as active as real sports, it's not quite as fun as a real game "
Maybe I just don't "get" this motion controller business. But i've yet to see one game already out or even in conception that piques my interest.

Have you seen the Wii sales numbers? This is not something aimed at you and me. This is an extension to the other market. The BIGGER market. While I am a hard core gamer through and through, I still like to play Peggle, and Bejeweled and other casual games on my Ipod - using finger movements and shakes and tilts and so on. Casual gamers are the majority right now and as crappy as it is that they have to cater to this crowd, it's nice to have the variety. We'll still get our epic games with huge budgets that may or may not use Natal, but let's face it, motion control will be to a controller what the analog stick did to the D-Pad (anyone still use the d-pad?).
Not a fad. Not going away. And will be awesome.
Just my thoughts.

Man, I effing love capcom.
seeing as how the chap said something we haven't seen in a while, I would rule out the streetfighters, megamen, resi evils and so on.
I'm hoping for a new incarnation of Onimusha, but I dunno how they would make that work....
O.o
