New to this trailer is the English theme song for the RPG, "My Hands" by Leona Lewis. "When Square Enix approached Leona about including her song 'My Hands' in Final Fantasy XIII, she was honored to be partnered with such an iconic and groundbreaking video game series," RCA Music Group's Tom Corson said in a press release. "Leona is a natural fit with the game's powerful themes and strong female protagonist." Y'know, themes like being able summon a giant ice motorcycle-robot-thing while falling from an exploding dragon airship-thing.

This song reminds of the Love Hina dub. I rather have a bullet to the head then hear it. Oh well hopefully they change there mind and add the original Japanese song back into it.

god damn the theme song RUINS this game. i don't mind if its english speakers or subtitles whatever but damn why did they have to pick this shit as the American theme song... what a waste.. i wonder if the real international edition will have the good music...

Leona is overrated. Her album (US release) was ok, showcasing her voice, high quality production but the music just stank. That stank practically ruined the trailer for me.
But the game looks freakin' amazing.

Cool, it wasn't bad enough that the English voice actors are stiff and unexciting, but now there is some genero pop song to go with it. It's like Square knows exactly how to make me not want to play their shitty games.

@Bradwart The Echidna
lol holding it back? Than why does the 360 almost always outbeat the PS3? Come on look at Devil May Cry 4! That was NATIVE on the PS3 and then ported to 360 AND looked superior. Or the Ghostbuster devs ending up with a gimped to hell PS3 version? And that's just some of many examples, albeit the most embarrassing ones. Let me guess, Microsoft bought them out?
I highly doubt that the 360 held them back, remember porting didn't even start until late last year for the 360 version according to square? I might even wager it gets delayed yet again (for the 360 atleast). Also an entire new game? LOL I highly doubt it was that much.

So, is the PS3 version going to have the option of switching to Japanese voice overs? If not I'll have to import it which is a bit annoying.

Wow that is gorgeous looking.
If the gameplay is even half as good as that game looks it'll be incredible.

This game looks amazing
what gets me the most is the localization
in games past they just put english voices over the Japanse mouth movments
but watch it again, it looks like they actually re-did the game so that
the mouth movements are in English as well
(probably wont have a Japanse track because of this, and the reason in the past that I wanted Japanse with english subs)
PS3 for me all the way
I can't wait! midnight buy!

The last minute of it really sold it for me. The song kind of built up well for that CG battle, the voice acting seems alright, not as good as 12. Also now more than ever I wish they had somewhat normal names. I have a feeling that is going to be the worse part. But overall, I'm less worried now after seeing this that the English version won't be that bad, I won't even need Japanese VO.

The song's annoying as hell--it's melodramatic, soppy, pop crap, and doesn't mesh well with the context of the game. And whoever thought that playing a song with lyrics over scenes with dialogue should be made to listen to a song by Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and Celine Dion all playing at the same time.

Argh! The song is awful!
I hope there is a way to mute the song

Huh, i actually like this better than the song the Japanese version got. I still would have preferred an original piece more in-line with the rest of the soundtrack though.

Are we back in November or something? I can't believe people are still bitching about the damn song!!! Let's be honest - how many of you can actually understand what that other annoying song in Japanese was about? I for one like the new vocal theme in the game even though it sounds like a girl power anthem. Besides, it's only going to play once in the game, and I'm guessing in the final scene, maybe.
This trailer got me excited for this game again, and I can't wait to hear the new localization because the voice actors look like they did a great job voicing the characters.

The song is ok, it's no worse than the Japanese version.
I would have loved to play the game with in Japanese w/ English subs, but the English voice overs sound pretty good…as they've always been, 12 was fantastic, with the exception that they had everyone saying their lines from London over an ISDN line, which (probably along with compression) explains why everyone sounded like they were talking into a tin cup. Really a shame considering how good the cast was.
Even 10's voice acting was pretty good, especially Wakka.
I'm just thankful the lip syncing seems to be top notch! Does anyone know for sure that they reworked the vocal animations? I know for past games they had to just try and sync it up, and for the most part it was pretty convincing.

Awesome Trailer, horribly bland annoying music. I hope I don't have to listen to that in the game.

I find nothing wrong with the song per se. I just think it didn't fit the trailer all that well. It's nice to be able to understand the dialogue for a change, though.

Wow, that was actually rather enticing and thrilling; I'm quite honestly considering picking this game up after that trailer. Very nice, it is looking very nice, indeed!

For those of you who are complaining about the song's lyrical juxtaposition to the game itself (and not so much about the pop style), have you ever read the lyrics for J-Pop theme songs in other games and shows? Y'know, the ones you claim fit better?
In Kingdom Hearts alone, the original lyrics mention watching TV, empty streets at night, and meeting the significant other's family (which did happen to make it into the even more awkward English version, but that's beside the point). Tell me how that makes sense in regards to the narrative themes of the game.
As far as the actual genre of the song... I don't really mind the pop songs often used in JRPGs. They tend to grow on me. And even from the get-go, I rather like the juxtaposition. Remember The Bouncer? Both the Japanese and the English audio tracks had a pop theme song. Same song, just localized and arranged differently, but I liked either version. Nice way to cap off the story.

Well yes I suppose I should have clarified, I wasn't stating that vocals hadn't been in the games prior to now, just that I'm not keen on them, especially this example. The vocals in 8 weren't exactly spectacular but I didn't mind it since it didn't sound like it was plucked straight out of a christmas number 1 chart, 9's vocals were directly related to the story with garnet having sung the tune many times throughout the game (if i'm recalling this correctly). I'll be honest, I can't remember what 10's theme was.
However, I'm sure this will grow on me to an extent, I just wish it felt like it had more relevance to the game, instead of being a national anthem for generica ;)

I have no idea what everyone seems to be angry about. After watching the preview, it seems to completely fit the entire mood and context of Final Fantasy XIII's plot. Excuse me for the liberties I'll be taking in my idea of the plot so far, as I don't own a copy of the game just yet, but it seems to me that the main characters are all a group of outcasts trying to overcome the hardships that they have experienced in life due to something they cannot control. The conflict and struggle of what to do when faced in a situation where you want to be loved by those around you, but you only find negativity and hate and are therefore forced to battle for your right to live on seems to be the plot and setting of this game.
Leona Lewis' "My Hands", while not exactly speaking of battling a war with swords, magic and guns, brings the expansive plot and depth of emotion from the characters down to its most simplistic form: the need to be loved. Leona talks about how she had everything she wanted in the one she loved, and for whatever reason that doesn't exist anymore, and in order to move on past the situation and into a better one, she has to battle her own self that still misses what was once there and wants to go on thinking that the situation is fine the way it is...I don't know about y'all but the concept of the song is really really deep, and Leona Lewis' voice is one of the most beautiful voices to emerge in pop music in the past decade. Combining the understanding of what she's talking about, with the plot of FFXIII should tell you that this was an excellent choice of song.
I mean, are y'all paying attention to the preview at all? When the song begins, you see two characters in particular, struggling with the realization that they're L'Cie, and that from that point on life would never be the same again. While they don't have to battle within themselves, they are fighting for people to accept who they are, and for a better life than the one that was ravaged and torn apart simply for their differences. Hands hold them back, that don't want to let them go... :-D

I'm beginning to snicker everytime I hear a character in an anime or Japanese RPG whimper everytime someone grabs them. What is up with that? Girl grabs guy's arm, guy goes, "Uh!" girl on girl "Uh.. uh... uh!" This is an interesting pattern!
