Interplay resurrecting Stonekeep on WiiWare

Remember Stonekeep? If so, you're going to be delighted and vaguely confused by this news! If you don't remember the game, you'll just be vaguely confused. Interplay (remember Interplay) just announced that it's reviving the 15-year-old PC RPG franchise for ... WiiWare! And if you kind of remember Stonekeep and want a refresher, you can get it for $6 from GOG -- then come back and experience some confusion:

Rather than a port, Alpine Studios is concocting a new game based on the original, with "fun, a little fear and many exciting moments to all family members who dare to seek their fortunes and rid Stonekeep´s dungeons and corridors of evil using the Wii Remote controller," according to Alpine founder Les Pardew.

We'll find out what this means sometime before the Q3 2010 release. Will Alpine really come up with a casual, family-friendly concept based on ... first-person dungeon RPGs? It's hard to imagine a less casual-oriented genre.

At first I was like "yay! port!" but then I read the post :(

I loved the original game and played it when it first came out. Would play again. Will have to find the CD somewhere.

I think I still have my copy, and the original packaging too! This would be fun to ry on the Wii.

I do indeed still have this game and its awkward packaging. The game was pretty hard as I remember. I also seem to recall having to draw my own maps on paper which was VERY annoying. So, it should come as no surprize that I never finished it.

I did also have to draw my own maps, and it was difficult, but I did finish it. Kind of OCD that way.

How about a sequal/remake/whatever of Shadow Gate. Now that would be perfect for WiiWare.

I totally remember this game, it was great when I was a kid. It also came with a book based on Stonekeep if I remeber correctly... I once read on some gaming magazine that Interplay was working on Stonekeep 2, but I guess it was just a rumor or maybe it was canned...

Anyway, this WiiWare version doesn't really sound too interesting, but maybe I'll buy the original from GoG since my CD has a large crack on it >_

SOLD! I always enjoyed these types of role playing games (Eye of the Beholder, Lands of Lore, etc.) I'm glad it isn't a port, since I already beat the original.

Man I loved that game, spent so much time with it, can't wait to see what they do with this sequel but hope it comes to PC or at least other platforms.

Seriously, a direct port would be fantastic unfortunately that is not what we are going to get here. I'll reserve judgment on this one until I see it.

Thank goodness for dosbox. I can still play my original.

I've got an old PC version of this but running DOS games in windows has trouble (even with DOSBox) so I might actually get something off Wiiware.

Wow, I used to really like this game... I even read that book that came with it, "Thera's Awakening" As a kid I was amused that the main guy's voice was clearly the guy that did Rick Hunter from Robotech.

Hey, I met that guy at a voice acting workshop. He was a pretty swell dude.

Ugh! Should I get it gog.com for the pc for wait for the Wii version? The gog.com version is most likely going to be cheaper.

They need to resurrect The Lost Vikings and it's sequel.

Haven't bought a Wii game in forever... Looks like that'll change by the end of the year. :)
