Netflix's Wii disc sign-up page (remember, you need the disc to access the movie streaming service) is now live. All you need to do is sign in to your account and press the big blue button on the page. Yup, it's really that simple.
We're currently trying to find out from Netflix if the launch and service on the Wii will be relatively similar to that offered on the PS3 -- beyond requiring a disc. We're also trying to narrow down that "spring" release window, if possible.
Update: "Spring is as specific as we can get," a Netflix representative tells Joystiq. We've also been told, "The Wii will have the same titles as all Netflix ready devices and a similar, easy and fast disc-based experience as the PS3."

Seriously? The system is over 2 years old. Give the tape a rest.

Oh c'mon, if we can still all laugh at RRoD and "Riiiiiiiiiiiidge Racer!" jokes surely the duct tape is worthy.

Ridge Racer? I can't even fathom a single RR joke from the past sixteen years. Not one.
Well...Ridge Racer 64...but even that was decent.
Oh...R: Racing Evolution. Oh man that was ass (and tits).
RRoD is a beast by itself.

"BD-Live is Blu-Ray only, as it relies heavily on Java."
You do realize one of the touted features of Java is "It runs on everything", right? The original idea for Java was that it was a programming langauge that worked the same on whatever hardware reguardless of the OS. It was slow as hell, but did work. Now a hardware manufacturer can block Java from working on hardware if they want to (such as a cell phone manufacturer or service provider blocking Java so you can't install your own games and sofware) but it's still runs on most everything.
Java has existed long before Blu-Ray, long before the PS3, long before the PS2, hell, before the PS1. It has existed for longer than some of you have been alive.

Now if only the CRTC would let us use this in Canada, we'd be set. Can we shut them down? They only help the big corporations by dumping on the consumer.

I'm new to Netflix, so I'm wondering if you could use this on your Wii while using one on your PS3 or computer at the same time, so different family members can watch two different movies.

Well, at least us Wii owners will be fully prepared then.

You can do it, but I find it to be pretty taxing on my wi-fi. It's a much better streaming experience if you're not trying to do two at once.

I'd like to see some kind of explanation as to HOW this works.
On the PS3, the disc uses BD-Live integration. Does the Wii just treat it as a new game with online capabilities?

I don't think they can emulate BD-Live, so it must be some sort of portal.

it has to act as a game...can't act as a DVD because the Wii Doesn't play DVDs >_

Why would it have to emulate anything? It's a streaming software. It runs the software, the software logs into the service, and shows you a list of movies to pick, you pick one, it streams.

@Chris
Well it can with a software update (which naturally involves hacking/using homebrew to an extent). I remember wiifanboy used to have an article about how do to it displayed on their side navigation.
But it doesn't seem like it'd be that hard to do it. Instead of making it a game they just made it a program on disc. That program launches, probably asks for your Netflix login info, saves that, then simply streams it to your console over the regular internet connection. Just like streaming from a PC/browser.

I've got Netflix on my 360 and I'm enjoying it, especially being able to catch up on Lost, but... Fast forwarding and rewinding still seems extremely glitchy... it goes to the panes/scenes, but 3/5 of the time I click on where I want it to jump to, it exits out of the movie. I click "resume" and it takes me to a totally different part of the video than I requested.
Has anyone else been having this problem? It's a small annoyance, but an annoyance just the same.
