Unlock Xbox finalists announced

Did you vote in last year's Unlock Xbox competition? If so, did your pick make the final cut? Gamers and amateur designers were encouraged to submit their original ideas in the Doritos-sponsored competition. Out of over a thousand submissions, two will be turned into real (and free!) XBLA games. The three finalists to be considered by Microsoft execs are:

Harm's Way -- snipers and drivers team up in a game that combines racing and blowing someone's brains out. Delicious!
Avatar Crash Course -- inspired by Japanese obstacle courses, you must "press buttons, wiggle sticks, and jump up and down to survive."
Thrown -- "the whole point of it is to smash into other vehicles in order to throw the driver from their car and then run them over." A feel good game!

We're somewhat surprised by the violence involved in some of these XBLA suggestions. But perhaps we're looking in the wrong place for class, considering the last winner of Doritos' contest involved dinosaurs eating exploding trucks (seriously).

Because they're in direct competition with each other, right? Onion rings and cheesy tortilla chips never did get along.

Avatar Crash Course sounds like a terrible idea. There were other games that sounded so much more original and fun. I bet people voted on it simply because of the hot chick that came up with the lame idea...

Just watched the pitch video... did I miss something, where was the hot chick? Were you judging the girl in the video on the lonely nerd scale or something? Are you calling her hot simply because she's not fat?

I didn't find her that hot, but I would totally play that game... Trials HD on foot, with extra Japanese game show zaniness? SOLD.

I was being sarcastic. About the girl, not the crummy game idea.

Harm's Way sounds awesome. I've always wanted to play a John Allen Mohammad Simulator.

I don't think you know what ironic really means, you should look it up sometime! To be fair though, you're in good company, it's one of the more misused words online.

As for the sarcasm? Sorry, I can't say I know you well enough to know when you're being sarcastic or not, beside which I don't understand why the sarcasm in another post by another person would in any way imply that your post is also sarcastic. I mean you never say in your reply here that YOUR post is sarcastic, just the other one I replied to. Does that mean you really do think she's hot then, and this is a really artful attempt at misdirection? Or do you just have trouble expressing yourself in words? It's okay man, I know language can be tough...

So sad....The spider game would have been a much better choice than the button mashing crash course....utter failure on these choices

I liked the spidergame too but sounds like it would be a better DS or Iphone game than 360 game.

I love these because regardless who wins we all get about 400 free Gamerscore out of the deal. ;)

haha, I thought it said Ham's Way. Either way, I'm hoping that Harm's Way or Thrown win, they'd be fun for free. I'd be disappointed if a Wii-esque wiggle fest won... even the avatars look like Mii's (hahahaha, just playing Microsoft, hugs?)

Harm's Way is the only one that sounds like an actual game, so please vote for it! As bad as Doritos Dash of Destruction was, it was fun considering it was free. I could easily imagine a game that is marginally better with online play being awesome (again, for free).

Thrown seems like the most fun. Like one of the Flatout mini games.

I was gonna submit my idea but then I thought it was too generic and borring. I was thinking of a classic Shoot'em Up which I would of called Cosmic Crunch. The Dorrito is the Chip Ship and ya shoot down Dip Saucers to save the earth of its depleting Dorrito supply.

I just didn't like the whole video entry for the contest, I suck at that.

That game sounds fucking awesome.

Every time I hear or see anything about "DORITOS UNLOCK XBOX ZOMFG" I cant help but think of morbidly obese people.

I am not sure how Harm's Way even got to be a finalist. That has has corporate misstep written all over it. I thought Avatar Crash looked like the kind of game that might work if it incorporated Natal support. It reminded me a lot of Wipeout.
