It was an easy bet for Reggie to make since he slipped in the "one platform only" stipulation. I think everyone knew NSMB would outsell the ps3 version of MW2, simply because ps3 just doesn't sell software as a whole

It was pointed out at the time that it was a pretty lame claim by Reggie. Most people figured MW2 on PS3 wouldn't sell anywhere near Super Mario.

Wiizer deluded himself into thinking ps3 sells tons of software sometime early last Fall. How? I have no idea, but he's been proven wrong every month since then (and every month before he made that claim) but I'll give him credit for refusing to admit defeat.

Considering that new super mario bros DS STILL does extremely well in sales (and that came out in mid 2006), it's only a matter of time before NSMB Wii outsells MW2 sales for PC, PS3 and 360 combined. CoD 4 sales barely even exist anymore and that was only 2008

Wasn't Reggie's best through January NPD and for the 360 version specifically (his words).

From my count Mario is about 1.5 million behind with 1 month to go, looks like Reggie is going to lose his bet.

Don't forget that NSMBDS sucked cock, and the Wii one is game of the fricken century. I reckon it will blow NSMBDS sales out of the water, especially considering it doesn't have to compete with R4.

So Geoff started talking to Reggie about ModernWarFare2 and questioning him about the over whelming success its supposed to achieve. We all know of the recent bet here on VGChartz the bet that NSMBW will reach 11 million in year one sales. Well Reggie was up to betting that NSMBW is actually going to out perform one version of the ModernWarFare2 release.

Geoff specifically mentions the 360 version and Reggie says if we count the holiday sales through January of both titles that NewSuperMarioBrosWii will actually outsell ModernWarFare2 on 360. Lets just be clear on this.

He has until the January data releases but if it ended now he'd of lost the bet. You can't hedge the bet now after he said in the interview it would specifically outsell the 360 version. He had the chance to say no or waffle and he didn't ... so he'd lose if it ended today. Period.

Still wrong, no matter how hard you try to make it otherwise.

Let me give you a lesson in actually watching a video, instead of reading a transcript:

That was cross talk. Meaning Keighley was interrupting Reggie when he reiterated, "Just on 360". The entirety of Reggie's sentence was, "On one particular platform, I do believe so."

"On on particular platform ["Just on 360"], I do believe so."

Believe what you want, but you're only making yourself look dumb. Everyone knows Reggie said one platform. Fanboys trying to rewrite history doesn't make it so.

Jesus, who cares what his bet was? The point stands that NSMBW is obviously a success, though not as successful as the 360 version of MW2. Whether he meant the 360 version or the PS3 version really just doesn't matter.

I think the PS3 beating out the 360 is rather impressive, especially when you consider that both had ACii and MW2, and more people usually buy multiplatform titles on the 360.

A lot of people must have wanted a PS3 for Christmas, and that should help translate to more and more software sales for Sony as well. And hey, with FF13 and all the other good games coming out this year... tough year to beat.

The PS3 outselling the X360 by only 50K units is no big deal. What a lot of people probably fail to take into consideration are the bundle packages over the holidays sold at stores like Best Buy and Wal-Mart that had a HDTV + PS3 combo. Thus, a lot of people weren't buying the PS3 for the games (as indicated by the sales charts months in and out), but rather as a Blu-Ray player. Because logic would suggest that if you bought a PS3 new as a gaming machine, then one of the "must-have" titles you'd buy is Unchartered 2 (great game BTW), but yet it didn't even crack the top 10. Sad.

There is justice in this world.

I bought NSMBW.....but I did not buy MW2.....I am partially to blame for that....sorry but knocking my wife and kids into pits and other dangers is a lot more fun that fucking up randoms in MW2

For what its worth I think NSMBW is an abomination and while MW2 is overrated its less of an abomination than NSMBW. Seriously, that new Mario Bros game is a terrible joke. Even worse that people think its worth more than $10.

From what I read on IGN this was the best December for video games EVER, if that is any indication.

And they beat the old record (PS2 in 2002) by over a million units.

When I was buying MW2 on launch day at Toys R Us, every one who picked up the PS3 version looked like a ghetto thug who could coherently speak two words of english correctly. I know its anecdotal, but Sony has just as much riff raff as the 360 its just that you can't hear the bozos due to them being so stupid or so poor to not use a headset.

Seems they sold more units for MW2 than Halo ODST sold all year...

I know plenty of people that just went out and bought slims....they already own PS3's so they didn't have much need to buy anything new....then at the same time people like my little brother bought one and then bought some older games....I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case for most people

Well probably because there's alot to choose from Demon's Souls, Uncharted 2, MGS4( I still see people buying this game at best buy.) Ratchet and Clank. And other exclusives or multi. I guess thats my only explanation.

They outsold 360 by a measly 50k, in a month when everyone was over a million. They're still not making a profit on consoles, or if they are it's very small, so they need software to make money...and they don't sell software outside of the most popular game in the entire world.

Well more PS3 purchases will equate to more software sales, it'll just take time.
