The story should be the fact that Frogger Returns is #6. I mean I don't even know that game existed, yet there were that many people bought it?

The game was on wii ware before it was on PSN, and I'd personally say it's worth checking out if you liked the original.

I think you need to check your roman numerals chief. Final Fantasy 7-12 will never be on anything but Sony consoles (and PC).

It's $5. That's an impulse purchase. And it's a good version of frogger. I like tiny crappy games i don't need to get into. If I've waiting for my wife to dry her hair or for my water to boil, I can pop a game on, turn it off as soon as I'm done, and move on.

this kind of game wasn't as feasible in the PS2 era. I'm not going to hunt for a disc or pay $20 for this. But $5 games that I just have on the HDD? Yeah, this is a massive improvement over the old era. If you have a PC hooked to your TV, this isn't as major an improvement.

PS1 classics have the benefit of being sold to both PS3 and PSP audiences as well as being a pretty solid line-up of titles. It was really silly of Sony to ignore them for so long (not like that's surprising).

I feel kinda bad for folks who got into RPGs with FF7 and 8. I mean, yeah, they're great games and everything, and they deserve a lot of (if not all) the praise they get from critics and everything, but I've noticed (ANECDOTE ALERT! OPINION INCOMING! PREPARE TO DOWNVOTE!!) that when 7 or 8 are the first FFs people played, they don't seem to enjoy the previous games nearly as much, when in my opinion 4 and 6 were just as good, if not better in some cases.

To give a little bit of a counterpoint: over the past two months, I've played through Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2, in reverse order; I won MW2 in a contest, and after finishing that, picked up COD4 used. I did like COD4, but I felt there were a few things that disappointed me that I probably wouldn't have noticed if I had played it first (infinite enemy spawns, grenade spam, etc.). I can understand why I feel this way, and I know it's not optimal or even fair to think that way, but it is a pretty big argument against playing series out of order. I can only shudder to think how "terrible" I'd think COD1 is after playing through the MW games.

Still, to each their own. I'm glad you enjoyed 8, and even more glad it got you into my genre of choice. (Oh, and just for reference-- like I'm not gonna get downvoted to hell and back for this already-- my favorite of the series, so far, is 9. Mostly for the humor and the story, and the fact that it was still a really solid game, aside from the incredibly stupid abilities-from-equipment system. Can't speak too much on 2, 3, or 5 as I haven't finished those yet, but there you go.)

While you make a fair point, your choice of example is poor. Even before MW2 was released, infinite enemy spawns and grenade spam were already two of the biggest complaints about CoD4.

I can see what you mean about not being able to go back and play the older games. I started with 7, then played 9, 10, 8, and 12. When I go back and play 7 and 9, it doesn't take me long to get past the graphics due to the nostalgia from playing through them the first time. Since I didn't play through 8 until more recently, it strikes me as a bit outdated at first, but eventually I am thinking of nothing but plot.

However, I just bought 4/5/6, and I am currently working my way through 6, since I've heard that it was arguably the best one. I don't have the nostalgia factor working for me, but I think after a few hours hopefully I will be more into it.

VCize, slight poor wording on my part. Since COD4 would have been my first, I would have taken them for granted as part and parcel of the series, as opposed to flaws. By seeing the corrected version first, their presence in MW2 only highlighted the flaws.

Taken another way. FF7 introduced the long-ass non-interactive summon cutscene, and FF8 added button-mashing to it, and FF9 allowed for shortened versions of the summon cutscenes. If a player played through in sequential order, they would notice the natural progression of how the summons "improved". However, playing through in reverse order, the player becomes increasingly irritated with the way summons work, possibly increasing antipathy towards the older games. They're complaints that existed before the later games were released, but release order is in this case irrelevant-- it's the order in which new players are exposed to the games.

I'm certainly not advocating that everyone has to start with FF1 on the NES and work their way up. That's silly. What I am saying is that sometimes, playing through in reverse or chaotic order can unfairly bias you against the older games, even on an infinitesimally subconscious level. Keeping this in mind is a good way to avoid getting burned out on games.

(And also for the record, I'm having a LOT of trouble going back to PS1/PS2 games I haven't yet played, so I'm not entirely innocent of it myself. I'm trying, though.)

My personal favorite is X, even if I played FFVII first. :-/

There are some things that I loved in FFVII that I haven't seen in any of the other Final Fantasy games though, and that is the dark humor that was always present. I mean who can forget "The Don" O_o . That jerk made me a lot of memories.

I'm finally gonna' get through number 8... Gonna' take some work to get the motivation up though, due to having mistakenly deleted my previous save.

FFVI is awesome by the way :-) . Love the 2D graphics.

I started off with 6, then played 8, then 7, then 9, then worked my way down to 1 before playing 10, didnt touch 11, played 12.

You are bound to have favourites, either because you grew up with one, played it first or just generally clicked with the plot and gameplay in that specific game, that why human beings are given the gift of choice. But you can't not appreciate the fact that the classics of 6 and 4 were great games.

But then, I loved Abe's Oddysee, and I can name loads of people who hated that game, beats me why they hated it, but I adored it :D

The first FF game I ever *saw* was VII, as it was being played by one of my college roommates, alongside MGS and Twisted Metal, all on this curious gray box under the TV. The first FF game I ever *played* was V, shortly after discovering what an emulator was. The first and only FF game I have ever *finished* (I've played the beginnings of all the non-MMO numbered games) is I, which I thought was a whole lot better than the first Dragon Warrior (which happens to be the only DW/DQ game I've ever finished . . . and I found it extremely tedious). My favorite? Hard to say, considering the severe lack of finishings. However, I want to point out that I enjoyed FF1 despite having seen and played the PS1 offerings beforehand.

Similarly, though I only first played Atari 2600 Adventure within the last 5-6 years, at which time I thought, "Wow, this is so primitive," it has ended up being my favorite 2600 game. Sometimes, you just want to curl up inside a dragon's stomach, you know?

I tried playing the old 2d FF's when they came out and just didnt like them. They have a lot of accessibility problems and are far from flawless. Theyre very difficult, the random encounters are off the charts, and the fights are tedious and boring. It wasnt until FF7 that I was able to enjoy an RPG. FF6 may have good characters and story but the gameplay gets in the way for too many people, FF7 made playing RPG's a lot less painful.
