I love this game so much. With the exception of FFT, I've played this game start to finish more than any other.

Then, when time started to get short, I recorded the ending on VHS and just replayed that when I needed a fix. :D

I've never had the chance to play Xenogears, but it is a lot of my friends favorite game of all time. I'd love to see that one show up on PSN too.

Xenogears is good but heavily, HEAVILY flawed. The first half is fantastic, and sets up a wonderful world and great SF story. The second disc completely falls apart because Square ran out of money developing it. Which sucks because they could have easily crammed another 30-40 hours into the game that WASN'T non-interactive cutscenes.

I am aware they ran out of money and disc 2 was bamboozled. I was ok with that though as 90% of the game was cutscenes anyway and this felt like a nice artistic way of conveying the remainder of the story. It was quite unique. But I agree the interpretation was messed up due to lack of funds. Doesn't change the fact that Xenogears still has the most compelling story I've ever seen in a video game.

@JohnZ: Which furthers the analogy that it is basically the Neon Genesis Evangelion of video games. Whether that's good or bad news depends on your tastes.

I'd love to go back and play through FF7 and FF8, but I have no idea how you guys are finding time to go back and play long PS1 games with such a steady stream of amazing current gen games coming in the last few years (which doesn't look like it'll be slowing down this year).

I'm pretty sure they could stop releasing new games altogether and I'd still have enough to be entertained for the next 5+ years.

Dude, no joke. I bought VIII when it first showed up because I'm all about supporting games that I love, but I have no idea when I'll find time for it. I'm currently trying to take a leisurely rush through Darksiders so that I can finish Assassin's Creed 2 before ME2 drops. Unfortunately, MW2 and L4D2 keep interrupting. On top of those I also picked up WarioLand Shake It! and the Saboteur on the cheap after Christmas. I need my family to go out of town...

WHERE'S TOMBA! ? That was a funny little game. A 2D platformer with a ravenous psycho spikey pink haired kid who took out the evil pig baddies.

Yeah, and the used prices need to take a major hit. Someone tried to charge me 25 bucks for just the case and a scratched disc (no manual).

I laughed so hard I think the salesperson was insulted.

Final Fantasy 8 is a pile of shit. It's like the Star Wars Episode 1 of the Final Fantasy series. Every character is forgettable and derivative and the plot is like an acid nightmare. Anyone who says otherwise is either too young to have played SNES era JRPG's (and therefore GOOD JRPGs) or an idiot.

Remember when you find out that all the party members grew up in an orphanage together? They just forgot because of all the magic usin'! And guess what? THE EVIL SORCERESS VILLAIN WAS THE MATRON OF THE ORPHANAGE OMG PLOT TWIST.

Retarded, retarded, retarded.

Well, at least Square Enix and Sony made a lot of money selling it back to you morons. Good work.

My favorite part is where you have to spend hours stealing your magic during battles! Stealing is the best kind of grinding!

Lol, at first I felt compelled to slam you for that comment (not verbally attack you, just question your statement), because funny enough, out of all the FF games, it was my favourite, with 7 and 6 sharing second place and 9 and 12 in 3rd. (10 was garbage). But then I thought about it.......I'm not entirely sure why I loved the game so much, I just did, more then 7, more then any of the others, the plot was rather terrible to be honest, when put down on paper, it really makes little or no sense and while there is some good plot ideas, they are lost in between a sea of other nonsense, future scorceresses, owls, ragnarok coming out of nowhere, etc etc

And yeah, battles were kind of tedious at times, but then, I found 7 to be like that too, messy plot and annoying battles.

I suppose why I love them both is because they both just simply entertained me, and while the plots overall weren't great, the moments in the games made them enjoyable. The war in 8 for example, that was intense, Aerith's death in 7, which was emotional (don't know why, I thought she was a crappy character to use in battles). There is a lot of good in between the minor bad that makes the game memorable and easily my favourite, I wouldn't write it off, let people make thier own decisions, some will hate it, but others like me will love it.

It's not good that 7 out of 10 of the games are either remakes or straight ports of older games, rather than new ones. More of us need to buy truly new downloadable games or we could lose some needed originality.

Or.....we could buy old games to relive the good days when everything was just made to be pure fun, original and longer then some of the games today. Those who missed opportunities to play PS1 games back then, or taking the opportunity now, and good for them, let them see where most game series today came from.

ffvIII is the only ff game i had skipped, so i'm working my way through it now, i'd have to say the toughest thing for me to get past is how UGLY it is on my hdtv. the characters are pixellated blobs, everything is so lo-rez! i still play the snes ff games over and over again, but i'm having a tough time getting past the graphics on this one now,

Surely you or someone you know has a small old crt tv sitting around unused in the attic somewhere? Get one of those, and play games on them that were designed around their resolution and dimensions. Playing PSX games on a giant LCD is just silly, as you have no doubt noticed.
