Sega opened the official website for Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing earlier this week and now, thanks to some sleuthing from tssz|news, it looks like the remaining playable characters have been uncovered. Hidden in the website's code are several images, including the one above. Close inspection reveals Akira Yuki of Virtua Fighter alongside what looks to be Jacky Bryant. Also pictured is one of the characters from Bonanza Bros and what appears to be Opa-Opa from Fantasy Zone. Digging further into the websites code, tssz discovered images of KapuKapu, otherwise known as the cat from the classic Dreamcast puzzler, ChuChu Rocket.
Some decent additions to the roster, to be sure, but there seem to be some puzzling omissions as well. No Phantasy Star? Where's Kid Chameleon? Altered Beast would be a great fit as well. There's always DLC, right?

Because Sly, it's absolutely annoying and pathetic as hell. If ol' boy found an actual hobby, or something to do with his real life, imagine all that he could accomplish with the obscene amount of time he spends on this site reading articles, reading comments, responding to comments, re-reading comments. I'm tired of Spamwart spending his entire life sunup to sundown in the comments section.

So, no NiGHTS, no Segata, no ToeJam and Earl, not one mech from Virtual On...good job, Sega. You've really done it this time.

As in, this is their biggest fuck-up yet? Really? Omitting a few characters in a spinoff racing game is worse than, say, releasing beta versions as complete games or turning Sonic into a werewolf?
You're a strange person...

NO. THIS IS A MOMENT OF HAPPINESS, AND YOU ARE STRAIGHT UP RUINING IT.
Not to mention that you've also made on average 90.5 posts per day (!) since November of last year, which is actually more than Brad. Even though your post quality is generally higher, you're just defending your own actions with that comment, not Bradwart's.

Because the average age of people on Joystiq seems to be somewhere around 11.
You fuckers make this place seem like Middle School. I've ranted about this so many times, so I won't now, but seriously, if you have a problem with someone posting too much, get the fuck out of here.

I see no problem with Brad posting as much as he wants. It would be one thing if he was being rude or inappropriate or even saying stupid things. I'm not on here all that much, but I haven't seen these types of things from him (correct me if I'm wrong). I'd rather have a 50 comments from someone a day that are harmless and at least fairly well thought out than 1 stupid one. He seems harmless to me, and he should be welcome to comment when he feels like it. Everyone is still welcome to vote him up or down, but still....

I agree. We need more Phantasty Star. My username "wonderflex" came from the fact that I wanted a certain Mag to go with my Phantasty Star Online character, which was dependent on what your name was. Been stuck with it ever since.

It looks like a character might be cut off there on the left side, so that more characters may be scrolled off to either side.
I know, I should know better than to get my hopes up over Sega, but it's a possibility...

I always felt, unlike Midway with Mortal Combat: Sub-Zero on the Playstation, or that Nina (Tekken) game on the PS2, Sega really missed an opportunity to put some of the more popular Virtua Fighter characters in some awesome spin-off/side adventure - Virtua Quest aside.
This, though, wasn't what I imagined. Both Akira and Jacky look so out of place - and not in a Sonic Fighters meets Fighting Vipers manner, via Fighters Megamix. This just looks bad.

Akira inside a kart makes as much sense as a Ninja Gaiden Kart.
Now let me guess the power ups for Shadow the Hedgehog: a pair of uzis.

Chu Chu Rocket was one of the first console games I ever played online. I loved that game so much. They should definitely do a XLBA/PSN release!

I half agree with you. However anybody who wasn't a Nintendo only gamer back in the day should recognize a few of these guys. Akira I certainly remember from Virtua Fighter (used to love that game on the Saturn, back in the day), and someone from House of the Dead or Virtua Cop or something like that could be fun, though honestly I'm more interested in the courses than the characters.
They sure are whoring Sonic and his cast out for this game so it's almost certain it's gonna suck. Unless you count Brawl as a 3d game, Sonic has never been in a good 3d game ever.

My good man, have you never played Sonic Adventure 2?
It was the LAST true sonic game. Does anyone remember what the game says after you beat it and the credits end?
"Goodbye Sonic. Forever."

I played SA2 and, well, honestly Metacritic's giving it a 73 is far, far too generous.
Just what about that game was great? The bare bones piss poor excuse of a 3rd person shooter? The god awful camera controls? The virtual pet simulator that's no more advanced than a Tamagochi or Digimon? The horrible Knuckles/Rouge levels? The mediocre to god awful Sonic/Shadow levels (anyone who says the space levels weren't totally crap is deluding themselves...)? The totally epic super hawt kawaii designs of Shadow and Rouge (the last thing Sonic ever needed was a sex symbol.....)? The terrible camera?
The list goes on and on, the early Sonic/Shadow levels were mildly amusing but otherwise the game is a chore at best. I understand SA/SA2 were the first 3d games a lot of people ever played, but that's the only reason everyone doesn't recognize them for the crap they are. The games get off on pure nostalgia and nothing else...

I don't hear anyone complaining about not putting Star Fox or Captain Falcon in Mario Kart. I also hear no one asking for Link to ride his horse on the track or Samus to morph ball her way to victory.
You guys give Sonic so much flak, even for a racing spinoff.

Because it is Mario Kart and not "Smash bros kart" or "Mario and Nintendo all star kart"
A sega ALL STAR thing without a single nod to Nights or Streets of Rage (hey ! the Final Fight dudes are still appearing today !) is at least strange
The only problem i see with sonic is that he isn't running Sonic R style ... but then again it would not be fair =P
(and people must remember sonic drift xD)

Platy is right, but I would LOVE a Nintendo racing themed game. Of course I'm not sure that I'm willing to give up Mario Kart to get it though, maybe a Nintendo racing game more like Diddy Kong racing....
And Mario Kart DS had ROB, and didn't some arcade version have Pac-man or something?
