Ubisoft has apparently delayed Splinter Cell: Conviction for "a bit more polish," the publisher told Eurogamer. Although the common wisdom is that the delay occurred due to the unnaturally packed Q1 of triple-A goodness, a representative for Ubisoft stated, "The game looks brilliant, but we want it to be awesome."

I love corporate PR bullshit. You guys aren't done with the game, we fucking get it. Take your time, we understand.

Cap usually I'm right there with you, but I honestly believe these guys are pushing the game back to make it better.
It worked for Batman last year right? Speaking of which, I bet when Arkham Asylum came out Ubisoft was all "HOLY SHIT scrap Conviction and start over!"
Also this seems relevant:

Let's hope Sam has some better moves this time around!

I'm with Naeem. Q1 is a cluster-fsck of A to AAA titles that were pushed back. As much anticipation as SC:C is getting, it would easily fly under the radar with the likes of ME2 and FFXIII being released so close together.
Case in point: I have both of the aforementioned games pre-ordered but have not done so for SC:C because I know I wouldn't get around to it until this summer (when it would likely see a price drop anyway). Delaying it allows Ubisoft to squeeze an extra $15-20 from me and countless other frugal gamers.

I guess it is a good thing. I don't imagine playing a whole lot of anything seeing how Mass Effect 2 comes out in less than 2 weeks.

This is not just a simple delay - they are now going to be over 2 1/2 years past the initial release date, which I think justifies complaining.

At this point it's nearing Splinter Cell Forever status. Also now it's releasing closer to Red Dead Redemption, which would worry me more than releasing near... Whatever else is next month.

it might actually be a good thing. In the co-op trailer I saw there were some frame rate issues. Maybe the delay will see to it they are solved.

Yeah yeah, let us be the judge of that, just release already, been waiting for this game since the beginning of time ¬_¬

I don't see why people automatically jump to conclusions that the game isn't done.
Arkham Asylum got delayed and that worked out well for them.
I'm pretty sure that an extra two months can really help out some bug/glitch/framerate work so kudos to them for realizing this and actually wanting to make the game even greater.

Right. Either this happens and people bitch, or people bitch about "patches filling up my harddrive".
Yeesh, I don't mind waiting a little extra time. It's not like I'll have nothing to play.

After all these delays, the game will have to be REALLY good to make up for the wait.

Well, it's not like there aren't other games to fall back on in the meantime. A couple more months won't kill me.

All these Q4 releases have been delayed until Q1, and are now being delayed until Q2. Next thing you know, these games will release in Q4 of this year. The cycle, it never ends!

This game will be delayed all the was to the holiday season. Mark my words. They do these fake release dates to drum up support. Think about it everyone gets boosted for a release of this game and then boom delayed well your anticipation just grows and you might be spreading word of mouth about how awesome the game will be. Sounds to me like a marketing ploy to release a false street date. That is my opinion, I could be wrong.

I'm pretty sure no developer wants to go up against the behemoth that is Halo: Reach this holiday.

That's why Halo launches in September anymore-it leaves the holiday clear for everyone else.

2. Your theory loses to Duke Nukem Forever.

Is "awesome" supposed to be better than "brilliant"? A "brilliant" game sounds better than an "awesome" game, in my opinion.

I think you're emphases are on the wrong words. They think it LOOKS brilliant but they want it to BE awesome.

Although for the record, can someone with more free time than me list the games which have been delayed? I could use a laugh.

Oh god, here goes.
Splinter Cell: Conviction
GT5
Bioshock 2
Alpha Protocol
The Lord Of The Rings: Aragorns Quest
Alan Wake
While there are dozens more, I leave the list to someone else.

Hopefully the delay is because they realize this game will be garbage without a Mercs vs Spies mode.
Gamefly ftw. Would have had my money had you not removed the entire replay value of the game.

Mercs vs. Spies has always sucked, it has never added anything to the series like coop has.
