Xbox 360 Platinum Hits lineup adds Halo Wars, Orange Box and others

Xbox.com has listed several new games as Platinum Hits, including Fable II (aka Game of the Year Edition), Halo Wars, Left 4 Dead, The Orange Box, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, Ninja Gaiden II, Kung-Fu Panda, Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, Sonic The Hedgehog, and Sonic Unleashed.

A Microsoft PR agent couldn't confirm the full list of new Platinum Hits (are we missing any above?), but said that if a game is listed as such on Xbox.com, it's a Platinum Hits title. The changes seem to have taken effect on major retailer sites, as GameStop and Amazon now reflect the discounted Platinum prices (if not always the the Platinum Hits branding), which range from $20–30.

With Orange Box requiring only one Jackson ($20), it's now literally a crime to not own it. Conversely, if you're dead-set on committing a crime, buy someone Sonic The Hedgehog or Sonic Unleashed at $20 each.

Oh finally I can buy Sonic Unleashed.

BK:N&B, Sonic The Hedgehog Rape 2009, & Sonic Unleashed have been on the maretkplace for at least a month now or more.

I picked up the Platinum Hits version of Left 4 Dead for $15 at Sears in December. Too bad I didn't wait for Fable II; I picked up the regular edition for $15 there as well.

The orange box, halo wars, fable II, and left 4 dead are great buys if they are at the 19.99 price, and are games that actually deserve being called platinum hits (fable II is 30 i think because of the dlc included).

You're forgetting that they don't do this until sales drop down big time.

I actually think Sonic Unleashed is a nice attempt at bringing back old school sonic levels but in 3D. The only bad part is you have to go through the Weresonic levels. Why does SonicTeam always have to add some gimmick to Sonic? Keep it simple. 10 different levels. each with 2 to 3 sections. each it's own look and environment. It's own soundtrack.

I think their justification was that if the game was just the Sonic sections then the game would be incredibly short and they would be wasting so much money on designing environments that you see for a split second.

Here's a solution: relegate Sonic to downloadable titles and crappy spin-off series.

Are any of them getting bundled with a DLC disc? I like it when they do that.

Fable 3 and Gears 1 I think.

Wait wait wait... Wars is 20, but Halo 3: R.I.P.O.F.F. is still full price?

Remember, if it doesn't sell well it will be reduced in price, no matter the franchise.

Why sell a still widely popular game for only 20-30 bucks? Still, it'll probably end up as a Platinum Hit by holiday '10.

The Orange Box has been $20 new (at least at Target) for a LONG time.

I think Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection sold better than I realized. Probably helped that it only launched at 30. I may pick up Sonic Unleashed again if it's cheap.

What? I'm as big a Halo fanboy as they come, but HL2's campaign is peerless. I've been playing it here and there on the original Xbox, but then I got TOB the day after Christmas, and my mind was blown.

Halo Wars is pretty good. I just picked it up on Goozex. What it lacks in depth compared to PC RTS titles, it makes up for in ease of use with a gamepad and the cinematics. It's been a while since I shrieked like a little girl at an FMV cutscene... Well done Ensemble. Well done.

I bought Orange Box for $12 used after falling victim to Internet Nerd Hype. What a waste. Portal was, of course, awesome, but Half Life 2 could not possibly be more overrated. It feels like a PC shooter even older than it already is. Crappy weapons, terrible sound, retarded friendly AI, horribly handling vehicles... THIS is the game all the PC dorks said was better than Halo?!? Remember kids- fanboys are very vocal on the internet.

Oh yeah, TF2... please. It's not even worthy of my mockery. If you're a furry or a 30-something obese fruity Nintendo nerd, you'll probably love it.

Publishers are not required to put a game in Platinum Hits collection. Heck, there's not one Activision game in Platinum Hits.

It's amazing that Halo Wars has sold enough to be qualified for 'Platinum Hit' (which, by definition, is 400,000 copies within the first 9 months), and yet the Halo 3 is still 60 bucks new! It must have not sold at all!

I missed playing Halo Wars, and have been looking to get it cheap. I think I will be picking that one up.

And they want to charge us 30$ to buy some of those very games by using digital downloads? Fuck that.

they seriously need to mark DLC prices in alignment with physical Platinum Hits. Despite the recent sales, today it'll cost you more than the game to get all the DLC when it comes to games like Fallout 3. I'd love to play Point Lookout and Zeta but I already dumped $20 into Pitt and Broken Steel, not to mention full price for buying the game at launch.

I don't know if I'd go so far as to say not having Orange Box is a crime. In fact, I'd say the console release of it IS a crime. What a terrible port.

I'm seeing Halo Wars hovering around the $30 mark everywhere I check. Anyone actually finding it listed at $20 anywhere?

Gamefly sells it for like twenty USD including tax.

Who says it has to be short? You can make a long Sonic game and add extra unlockables, achievements, online game play. Adding tons of replay value.

The 360 version? If you say so. I don't know it ever got fixed but TF2 was a goddamn mess of lag, and as far as I know never got any of the updates the PC one got.

If you have a gaming PC the Steam version for $10 more is more than worth it. The 360 version of TF2 just doesn't compare. The orange box is one of my favorite purchases in the last 5 years or so, but I'm not sure I'd be so happy with it on the 360. Still though, compared to some of the other crap for $20 (like sonic) it's a steal.

I keep considering getting it on PC but then I remember everything's divided into retarded clans and servers with custom sounds and maps you have to download and all that bullshit. It's why I stopped playing counter-strike.

And to be fair, I don't think you really even need to own a "gaming pc". Mine's from 2004 and I'm pretty sure I could run it, maybe not at max but at least medium.

Well, by gaming PC I just mean a PC with a graphics card that isn't intel GMA.

And while a lot of annoying custom/clan servers are there, there are still plenty of fun stock servers for normal human beings to play on.
