Wait, that's what the game looks like? I thought it was a webcomic parody of it or something.

Uhm, are those dice attacking each other? I assume that's what the ball of explosion is.

I love me some risk, but the way this looks....I think I'll pass on this one unless it's for the cheap.

So, Penny arcade is doing the art for this game?

And lol at Chairman Meow.

I actually kinda dig this. Just sayin'.

Of course, I'll also say that this will not sell according to their expectations, because they're likely going to drive away their core fanbase. But taken as a game, and not a version of "RISK" . . . it actually looks quite good.

IDK. I just was really expecting something more austere and...grown up?

Just because you are grown up doesn't mean you have to play grown up games. Cartoon games can be enjoyed by anyone and even you if you would give it a chance

I was excited to hear that Risk was coming to XBLA...until I saw these screenshots. I was expecting something a bit more similar to the PC release of the 1990's which was a bit more faithful to the boardgame. I do have to agree that this may have appealed to me more without the Risk affiliation, oddly. I think associating it with Risk means expecting that players will come to the game with all the requisite preconceptions.

Agreed.. I have very little interest now. I was hoping it was going to at least go for like a T rating approach and make it feel slightly more badass than moving roman numerals around... but kittens? I like penny-arcade but idk... Comes down to the gameplay.

Looks kinda goofy, but if it's still got classic Risk at the core, I'll give it a try.

I still think the "black ops" special edition is one of the coolest looking versions of Risk: http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/18/off-the-grid-risk-black-ops-and-hasbros-wrong-direction/

Yeah, I'd be interested in it too. Unfortunately, there are only 1,000 of them in the world, and they only went to journalists, bloggers, and reviewers.

Wait, since when are Spartans and Huns not human?

I'll have to demo this hard before deciding if the art direction is a good or bad thing.

How dare they.

Risk is a very very serious game about who can get more lucky on dice rolls and seeing how long the game can go on until someone gets mad and flips the board off the table.

Risk usually takes hours to play one game. How will that translate into a good online game?

This one time I took mushrooms in this old basement studio under this music store where my friends' band practiced. They got down to a game of Risk as I was in full trip, and I really did believe they were ruthless dictators, fighting over the remains of a war torn planet, preparing for a purge of human life to all the poor souls in the victor's acquired territory who was not part of the ruler's own clan. As I was not playing, my brain assumed that I had already lost a previous clash, and I was simply awaiting the end of this final showdown to meet my brutal demise at the hand of one of these despots (all my close friends). Good times...

Maybe every future article about this game should have a reminder that YES, CLASSIC RISK IS AVAILABLE IN THIS GAME. People seem to not be paying attention.

And, really, whining about the graphics in a board game? It's like you guys are parodying yourselves.

Hoping this wacky reply system works!

Anyway, "You can absolutely play the classic board game if you like," an EA representative told Joystiq. "There's also the Risk 2008 ruleset."

The source is the last article about this game on Joystiq, which is here:

Hope there is an option like on the PC games to turn off animations so the game goes quicker.

I'll give this a chance I've been wanting Risk on 360 for awhile.

lol, it's most of these posts sound like they're written by the dudebros from Army of Two. God forbid they play something with a cartoon in it. Because they're manly men, playing serious games. And driving big trucks. With guns. And music with guns.

I hate to be the party shat, but...... oh screw it, if it is reasonably priced I might buy it.

It's no shogun/wallenstein, nor dune or doom the boardgame, hybrid, agricola or war of the ring. It's not twilight imperium three, magic realm, wizard kings, talisman 4ed, or duel of ages, nor cosmic encounter. Hell, it's not even heroscape.

It's also not a case of beer, but it IS risk(not lord of the rings risk, godstorm or 2210 risk risk). All that being said I wouldn't mind, again if reasonable priced, a little ri...screw that I'd rather have the case of beer.

I'm not sure if I WOULD like a Toy Soldier-esque design more than this cartoon style.

But I do not like the cartoon design.
