Not only it is a bad idea, it's a f*cking horrible idea. No Half-life, Portal, System Shock 2, Bioshock, etc. No thanks dude. This will not even cause a dent in Gears of War 3 sales. Plus the over the shoulder aiming was taken from Resident Evil 4 and the cover system was heavily influenced by Kill Switch.

the close ups on the textures on the girl's collar are really lo res... meh! I haven't been impressed with anything Square has put out this gen. At least not on the 360/PS3.

i know this is a "in progress" clip, but it drives me nuts when the graphics are so substandard. Yeah, it has more colors then Gears did, but it also has some pretty crappy special effects and very obvious tiling, mirroring, and low res issues. If your going to release a clip, at least spend some time polishing it. You can totally tell what is still being worked on.

I'm totally with you on that. Gears is definitely an iconic game so it's expected that people would draw some influence from it. But this is just blatant copying. The game can't possibly be good just by the sheer lack of imagination. They've drawn EVERYthing from gears. Even the reticles/crosshairs look very similar. The enemies are similar. The color palette is similar/the same. It's just awful. Sure PS3 players are missing out on Gears, but this is not how to go about bringing it to them, I'm sorry.
By the way, the death animations are atrocious. It looks like enemies just blow up and disappear. These guys are obviously asking for their game to be compared to Gears and it just looks very sub-par. I am officially anti-Quantum Theory now.

No it doesn't. It might not look great, but it hardly looks like something last gen. Kindly go hook up your PS2/Xbox/Gamecube and fire up your favorite game and try to say that again with a straight face.

more like early this gen -- but more for the surface rendering and some of the moving walkways. @AoE The textures are pretty close to original XBox quality in places and the level geometry is pretty bland (not counting the moving walk ways) :(

This game was supposed to be a PS3 exclusive, now they made it into a multi plat game which really makes no sense b/c 360 doesn't need a washed down version of gears, PS3 does.
And Dante's Inferno looks like a way better rip off of God Of War then this piece of shit game.

I agree with smilingoat. I think Dante's Inferno is a pretty good looking game, even if it's similar to GOW in many ways. When was it a bad thing to copy a successful franchise? (Excluding Quantum Theory)

I'm sorry but this is just a total rip-off of Gears! It looks...okay but nowhere nears as good as Gears. Especially when he blows them up with his shotty they just disappear in a puff of blood. In Gears, they'd explode, chunks go everywhere (and stay around) and your screen gets covered in blood! I sure do love my realistic gory a$$ games!

I've only played the first GoW, and didn't finish it (relatively disappointed with it, tbh). Is there a mechanic in GoW games where you throw a spritely sword-wielding anime lady at your foes for massive damage? If so, I completely didn't see that coming. Otherwise, yeah, this pretty much looks like GoW.

Well sure....it's pretty easy when a game is such a blatant a rip-off. And you can tell it will play like crap just by the game play video we just saw.

Heh good, maybe it will give him something to strive for. I loved Gears 2 but it had so many freaking problems and they still haven't gotten around to resolving some of them and they won't feel the need to because of how amazingly it sold.
Besides, Dark Sector looked exactly like Gears so it's not the first time this has happened.
