With Jill serving as the "main character" for the additional content, the Gold Edition expansion looks like a genuine sequel, a la Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Most importantly, we're glad to see Jill's masterful unlocking skills put to good use in this trailer. The first batch of RE5 DLC will be available on February 17.

Too bad I traded this game in a long time ago, this looks like it could be amusing. I just can't warrant renting the game and buying DLC for it. Ah well.

I don't usually sell games (still have Lair, Haze, Lost, Turok to name a few), specially Resident Evil games. I'm a fan since the original for PS1 in 1996 and have all RE games, even the ones that I didn't like it, like RE4 & RE5 and Umbrella Chronicles & Darkside Chronicles. So, yeah, I'm sure I'm getting this.

Not wanting to sell your games is cool, but why the hell would you buy "Lair, Haze, Lost and Turok"?
You seem to be a glutton for shovelware.

You didn't like RE4, but you liked Lair, Haze, Lost, and Turok?

the game literally costs 13 bucks at gamefly right now - to me, if you truly want to play the DLC seems like a no brainer, no?

lol... no, it's not that I didn't like RE4, RE4 it's a great TPS shooter action, just not a great Resident Evil game. If Capcom had title the game "Adventures of a blond guy" or whatever, then yeah, that game should've been on a select titles of my collection as one the best games, but Capcom had to name the thing as a Resident Evil game, so that's a shame compared with the RE classics, because RE4 destroyed everything good that RE classics had, just so Capcom could sell the game to the masses and leave the fans sucking thumb. After RE4, the series was never the same
As for Lost, Lair, Haze and Turok, it's not that I like them, only included them to make my point, that I don't sell my games, even if they stink.

In 2000, the resident evil series was doing poorly sales-wise. Code Veronica, and Zero sold terribly. The fans weren't buying them. So they did what they could to stay relevant. They picked a genre that sold well and modeled the next game after that. It's business. Now that the series is doing well in sells again, and they've mentioned a reboot, hopefully, they'll go back to the survival horror roots.

@SScorpio That's a good plan, but that'll only work if my video store has RE5: Gold Edition.

Capcom needs to give RE a break and come back to it in a few years.

Oye! They make one game that doesn't live up to the godly RE4 and they need to retire the franchise for a while?
I got news for you, RE4 set a bar that was nearly unreachable. It helped forever change the way we play third person shooters. I think fans of the RE series hate on RE5 needlessly. Sure it wasn't as good as it's predecessor, but it was still an excellent co-op game and a fun romp in it's own right.

Meh, RE5 was a fun game to play through with a friend, even if it's more "survival action" than "survival horrror". People keep insisting a game needs to innovate and evolve with time, and the first attempt at changing the formula unleashes a backlash from the traditionalist fans. Can't please everyone, so don't try.
I played through RE5 twice, but I'll definitely be renting the gold edition when it comes out for the extra content. Er, the costumes, not so much of a big deal, but two new chapters? Sure thing!

I'm also spoiled by RE4. I wanted to enjoy RE5, but I couldn't... it felt so dull. I forced me to finish it. At least, RE1 remake for GC was very good once I learned how to survive by burning zombies :P

Are all PS3 versions of Resi 5 being patched for motion controller support or is that just for the gold/alternative edition?

Yes. This does look pretty awesome. I will probably rent it though. I'll wait on reviews to make a decision. If the content is ample and good, it's a buy.

As a Resident Evil fan, I sure wish they'd stop trying to polish this sort-of turd and get to work on a brand new game...

Any word on the length of this? I loved RE5 for the co-op especially, and I'll probably get these DLCs regardless, but I'd prefer if it was actually somewhat meaty and not just a 1-hour experience.

well i really liked RE5, it was the first one that i have ever played, the controls are still strange but it was a good game.
also does anyone know what dlc is included in the GOTY edition? is it all the costumes, mercenary mode(the multiplayer mode, i think it was called mercenaries) and the 2 new dlc packs? if anyone could let me know that would be great!

Day 1 DLC for me. I thought RE5 was one of the better games last year. Can't wait to revisit the game again.

I don't understand why so many people have such problems with RE5.
It is very similar to RE4... with massively upgraded graphics and co-op. Why in the hell is this a bad thing???
Granted, I never cared for the gameplay of the early RE games. And I can understand why people that did are upset with RE4 and RE5. But I will never understand why anyone who loved RE4 hates RE5... when a game is as fantastic as RE4, what I want from a sequel is more story, better graphics, and a couple new features (like co-op). RE5 delivered exactly that and did not dissapoint in any way.
All the haters can suck it.

I think that Dead Space is what a nex-gen RE should look like. Much better controls, way more atmospheric and scary as hell! That was survivor horror. When the thought of moving the old formula onwards I guess it was a very good thing. But moving the formula and messing with its genre is not the same thing at all, and, unfortunately, that's what happened. It became to fleshy... to dumb. There was no love left for what it was once a wonderful creative history and its equally great characters. I would take ten more code veronica's over half of an RE5 as it is now.

I agree with you on Dead Space...except that Dead Space was great for the first 7 chapters, but then got bogged down into a shooter instead of stiking with what it did best: create a sense of isolation and make the player worry about what's around the corner. Once the endless waves of goons start appearing it loses its effectiveness.

True, true. But, honestly, I'm a big chicken, for it got me on the edge 'till the very last minute! =D
But I see your point: if they have to throw waves plus waves of monsters at you they rly should increase the variety of said monsters to keep thinks interesting. It is less scary when you already know what to expect and how to defeat it.
Still, Dead Space was what I would expect from the company that consolidated the survivor horror genre in videogames, not some mindless blockbuster with an bulky cliché hero getting shot by alien/zombies bikers with machineguns.
I'll tell you this: if the people behind Dead Space could learn how to be just as good story tellers as capcom were back in the day I wouldn't have such high expectations about this franchise anymore,

While I wasn't happy with RE5, I am curious just to see the dlc. Probably just rent the gold edition if my local blockbuster gets it, otherwise probably miss this one, no biggy.
