Aliens vs. Predator Classic 2000 now on Steam
23
Are you itching to get your hands on Rebellion's upcoming shooter Aliens vs. Predator? Have you been dreaming of mouths within mouths, mouths that open sideways and regular human mouths screaming in terror? If so, you might want to see a therapist. You might also consider picking up Aliens vs. Predator Classic 2000, the PC AvP title created by Rebellion aeons ago. The game is now available on Steam for the rock-bottom price of $4.99. It includes both the Gold edition and the Millennium expansion pack, and it supports the Xbox 360 controller for PC, so even the young'uns can appreciate it. The one thing it does not currently support is multiplayer, though Big Download notes that support will be added in a future patch.

What about Aliens vs. Predator 2?

It wasn't made by Rebellion IIRC, and also I remember it wasn't very good either.

i have to agreee AvP2 was nowhere near as thrilling or as good as the first one. The first one just had that old school gritty feel to it and was more somber. The monolith version was like comparing 60s pop batman to darknight.

This game was great. Flying around at warp speed as the Alien was fun as hell even though you got turned around so easy. The human campaign was intense; those damn face huggers, there's only a handful in the entire campaign, but you can only hear them when they're really close and they kill you if they get on you.

Without multiplayer, absolutely not worth it. Buy AVP2 instead. With multiplayer? Buy it.

What's a game without multiplayer? A twinkie without it's delicious white filling, a shoe without a foot, or a friend that's not your friend. Sorry, I apologize for the crudely executed analogy, but I hope that they patch the Multiplayer later on.

Man I had some great times playing AvP 2. Nothing more fun that standing on top of the ceiling or walls as an alien as a dude walks by you in multiplayer mode only to fall to the ground unheard by him and kill him.
For a long time I spent hours each night playing with friends in multiplayer matches, Good times....

I think I will wait until I hear more about the multiplayer. It doesn't bother me so much that the game doesn't have multiplayer since I am a single player guy, but to me this game seems multiplayer centric.

It's primarily single-player, but without multiplayer, it's almost a crime.
Going against each other, or going against an endless wave of Aliens with a buddy as Marines is fun.

Though I love the multiplayer, the single player campaign is superb.
The very first time you realize you are in a man's stomach, and must chew through his flesh and crush his sternum from the inside out, you will cry a little tear of xenomorph joy.

Um, it came out in '99. I should know, I made the official website for Rebellion, Fox, & Stomped under the moniker LoPin. http://www.planetavp.com/features/interviews/lopin.shtml

But the gold edition and Millenium expansion pack were released in 2000. Guess which versions are included in this version?

I loved this game. AvP2 got a lot of praise, and it was indeed an awesome game, but i always loved the first one more.
I love the way the aliens moved around the level, and were randomised after reloads, so they were never where you expected.
Wish more games companies would do this with old classics (and make them compatible)

Ok though, I have a question. What's the deal with all PC games being "XBOX360 controller for PC" compatible??
For years we could use any old USB controller on the PC, and it'd work with any game. We could stick in a cheap joystick, a digital gamepad, a dual analogue gamepad, or some kind of complex flight stick with a dozen buttons and pedals.
Surely this game was already USB pad compatible due to being a DirectX game, so did it need to be specifically made 360pad compatible?

Did they fix the weird bug that made AvP incompatible with certain Nvidia video cards?
Because I already bought AvP when it first came out, and I can't God damned play it anymore, which is a bit sad as it is my favourite PC game ever.

Hope y'all don't mind a young'ins comment but I just bought it and its fun as hell! The marine campaign is scary as shit, the aliens come out of anyware and jump along the walls! It's a nice change from the same repetative FPSs you get now. And the predator is always fun!
Also, the Xbox 360 controller support is actually cool I find. I plugged mine in thinking I'd have to spend 15 minutes mapping everything out but it was already done! The mouse is better though, I agree, it's much more precise in this game.
Anyway, while multiplayer sounds awesome, I don't understand why it needs it so bad. It's 4.99 and fun as all get out! Stop complaining :P
