Last Rebellion heading to Europe March 12, US 'in February'

You can imagine our surprise when we discovered Nippon Ichi's Last Rebellion had gotten itself a release date -- it's been nearly nine months since we last heard anything on the title (and that was its announcement!). The game's set to hit PlayStation 3 consoles on March 12 in Europe and 'February' for North America, just in time for those of you who love JRPGs yet are stridently against the purchase of Final Fantasy XIII.

In fact, between the release of FFXIII on March 9, Resonance of Fate launching the same day, and now this, we're inclined to rename the whole month with a JRPG theme. How about "Manarch?" Maybe "Marchic?" Perhaps "Marchlotsofbeltsandzippers?" Alright, alright -- we've clearly gone too far.

All of a sudden, publishers realised the PS3 is where JRPG should be.

Simple economics would dictate that you don't release a niche genre on a console with a low install base, now those numbers are up the risk is less. However I would question them releasing this 3 days after FF13, people aren't going to pick up two RPG's in the same week

Scratch that last part, i scanned the article and saw the date, then saw them mention FF13 and i assumed it was coming in the same month

Actually JRPGs should be on the DS, and they've realized that for a while.

And most people have realized that JRPGs suck.

Yes that's a dude. When it comes to jrpgs now, I just assume they are dudes to be safe so I end up saying "that's a girl?" more often.

For what it's worth, the character art at the game's website, http://nisamerica.com/games/lastr/, has the guy looking a lot less effeminate. He's doing the "I'm a tough guy because I have a big black open coat" thing. Speaking of clothes, I like the girl's dress, and from the looks of the trailer, it animates well.

yay! Last Rebellion! I've had it preordered on Amazon since early November.

and yes I am an avid JRPG fan that can't stand seeing another Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest

If you're really interested in the game, you may want to consider canceling your Amazon.com preorder and ordering the special edition that is available only from Rosenqueen.com (NIS America's online storefront). That version (limited run of 500) comes with a 2-sided 21"x26" poster, one of whose sides has not yet been revealed, and costs $10 more; additionally, you won't get free shipping like from Amazon.com, and the shipping charge will be greater than normal due to the poster tube. So, if you are a *really* big fan of this game which nobody has played yet, not even in Japan, then you could express your fervor by preordering this edition.

Record of Agarest War, White Knight Chronicles, Star Ocean International, Resonance of Fate, Final Fantasy 13, Nier & Last Rebellion !!?!??!! Aww shucks this looks to finally be the year that the PS2 isn't the best Sony console to play RPGs on ... Feel like I'm getting late Christmas gifts from the land of the rising Sun.

I know they aren't everything, but those graphics are insulting. Are they asking for the full $60? Gameplay can make up for graphics, but if you're going to cut corners so blatantly your PS3 games looks more at home on the PSP, then I don't see where your costs are coming from to justify full price.

Graphics are almost a joke for Nippon Icchi, but i really love their games. Disgaea 3, man i didnt platinum that game yet, and im @ 140 hours... (Fuck*ng Prinny Pirates)... the Prinny Game, X Edge... I like em. And if their game is 40$ i like em even better.

Final Fantasy VII had Amazing cinematics but the ingame graphics were crappy. RPGs are not about graphics, tho lately they are an eye candy display :P

I'm sure the game may be interesting and all, but why such little work was put into making the game look visually nice is mindboggling.

I was wondering the same thing. Why not just release it for the PS2?

My first reaction was that it looked like a game for the PSP. Reminded me a little of Jeanne d'Arc.

Because if they do people will say 'lol they're still making games for the ps2, fail!'

have you ever seen an NIS game that has great graphics? stuff like disgaea 3 looks like ps2 and Makai kingdoms looks like PSX but I still like them

I haven't played a Square-enix published title in a while though NIER and Front Mission evolved I will pick up despite them being Square enix

might get a used copy of FF13 next year for cheap when 1/4 of the millions start showing up on goozex and ebay just like FF12 did. I'm sure no one remembers the FF12 buzz do they?

I sincerely doubt it has made the jump to looking anything like a PS3 game should look like, though. It basically looks the same from some vids I've seen. No difference really.

If they're trying to ride the wave of FFXIII's popularity, that's a really risky maneuver.

Although releasing it in Feburary just before FFXIII hits may be a pretty smart move. Get it in while everyone is hyped for an upcoming RPG but haven't yet got one to play

I've been looking forward to this. I need something to tide me over till Final Fantasy 10 comes out. So many good rpgs coming out, good time to be a PS2 owner. :D

it looks very dated, it would be a little hard to play this after FFXIII. RPG's are supposed to be eye-candy.

Luckily it's coming out before FFXIII. Hoping to get those who have RPG on the mind I guess

I'm from Europe so it's March for me. White Knights releases February 26 here... what is Sony thinking. It's being sent out to die, nobody is going to buy it with FFXIII that close.
