Wasn't really interested in the sequel since I had the full Bioshock experience by playing through the first game. Now if I was going to buy it, it sure wouldn't be until the GOTY edition.

Assuming it wins game of the year, it's got some pretty good competition this time around.

Cool, enjoy playing the game after all the major plot points have been spoiled by people that finished it a year before you.

I was really psyched about this game, but now... UGH, I don't mind DLC when it's spontaneous, like "oh we can add this cool epilogue" and more MP maps are always good, but when a dev/publisher flat out announces that they plan to have tons of DLC makes me want to wait for the GOTY... But I'm not though...

@Vcize

Let's just be honest here and admit there won't be anything that compelling story wise since the first one was so self contained and wrapped up in a pretty bow. Even so that's always the risk one takes. No need to be snotty ... I could easily say "enjoy losing your buying power as a consumer by being an early adopter." I'm still 50/50 on the game but I really can't see myself buying it new over something fresh like Dantes Inferno or Heavy Rain.

I got the limited edition as a gift for xmas, so I'm already committed to the game, but if I hadn't, yea. Game of the Year edition.

I've tried to be supportive of the game and be hopeful it'll come out alright, but now I wonder: what are they keeping from the initial release to try to make us double dip later?

Sorry I had to laugh really hard at that. You mean the game commonly referred to as the god of war ripoff?

I actually don't even know how the first one ended. I stopped playing shortly after beating ryan with a golf club and finding out I was being manipulated.

I'm sure I read the ending before but I can't be bothered remembering. My memory is not good with these types of things.

When you put it like that every game is a rip off of another game. I'm talking about the content of the story and the environments. I think it's more fresh than doing Bioshock again. You could say Bayonetta is a rip off of Devil May Cry because they are the same genre but the games couldn't be more different. Something like section 8 is a halo rip off and quatum theory is a gears rip off but dantes inferno isn't any more of a god of war rip than dead space is a resident evil rip. Similar game play? Sure. Rip off or clone? No ... Not to me anyway. Be like saying borderlands is a fallout rip off which it's not.

God dammit i thought we settled this shit months ago. Section 8 is a Tribes rip off! Not Halo! Being an FPS with bright colors doesn't make you Halo! FUUUUUUUUUUUU!

+1 to this. I can't imagine them releasing an unfinished product, but if it is obvious they cut stuff out deliberately to make them DLC, then it'll come out in the first wave of reviews.

So DLC isn't worth the initial price, but it is worth waiting to play a game a full year or two later simply get that DLC as a cheap ad on?

I'm sorry, but that just seems like dumb logic to me.

Viney, I don't like spending a lot of money on things I can't resell. Couple that with the fact that there are at least 15 other interesting games releasing in the next few months....and I have absolutely no problem waiting.

@Space

That part is actually kind of what I was talking about. I'd imagine Bioshock's big twist had a much smaller impact if you already knew about it ahead of time, which I'd guess most people did a year down the line.

Anyway, all this "I'll just wait for the GoTY edition haha I pwned you with my savyness game devs!!!". Stuff gets cheaper over time, this is nothing new, and you're not some super smart guy for figuring it out. Saying "I'll just wait for the GoTY edition haha" is no different than saying "I'll just wait a year until it's 20 bucks haha" for any other game out there.

Realistically, by the time the GoTY edition comes out at 60 bucks, it'll probably be cheaper to just buy the original version of the game and all the DLC separately anyway.

Johnny, those are really some pretty poor examples. It's true that there's nothing "truly" original these days because everything has been done in some capacity before, but Dante's Inferno is considered a step above on the ripoff scale (it's release period certainly doesn't help with that).

And yes, Quantum Theory is a huge Gears ripoff, so that's a horrible example.

And Section 8 has nothing in common with Halo except for the space marine part. The gameplay of the two are polar opposites.

agreed. i don't like the the word "aggressive" when it's next to the words "DLC plans". i almost never invest in DLC, and it angers me when they announce that they plan to flood the digital marketplace with it months before the game is even released. Fans got so angry at Namco for putting extra levels/costumes/characters/planes/whatever out for their games as paid DLC (because it was on the disc)- but i don't see this as any different. they should just include it on the disc. i have been constantly disappointed in Take2's crappy business decisions- and it probably means that i am going to continue waiting until long after their games are released and buying them used (if at all). no thank you.

So it sounds like you had no intention of buying the game for awhile anyways, so what's the point of telling everyone you won't be buying the DLC right away? That part just seems obvious then.

I gotta agree with Johnny and +1 him. Gameplay wise, yea Dante's is taking from GoW, but in terms of characters and story it isn't. The whole "Christian" hell mythology seems to be rarely explored in games and it's a lot more fresh than the Bioshock 2. It's obvious that Bioshock was never intended to have a sequel and that Bioshock 2 is just something they had to make up quickly in order to grab some money off of the first games success. It might still end up being great, but fresh? No.

well viney, the first one had no DLC so I certainly didn't think the second one would have aggressive DLC. I was prepared to buy it soon and then sell re-sell it. but now that I know they are going to be aggressive with DLC, I'm just going to wait it all out and then buy the inevitable "full-package," and then I'll re-sell it. That way I don't get stuck with DLC on my HDD that I has re-sale no value.

-Take middle finger, place it on Little Sister's face, now look to the left of middle finger and you will see a ghostly face.

Because, DLC is whatever they couldn't fit into the disc. Should they just abandon any work that didn't make it to the final disc? No. Besides, what is the problem with paying $5-$10 bucks? The only incident where DLC has been a problem was with Street Fighter IV. I can't recall any similar cases.

You can be taken aback to those days of yore. Just don't buy the DLC.

There you go, no spending extra money, and no extra content. It's a win/lose, just like before.

It's just more complicated than it ought to be, I think. Back on the PS2, I got Final Fantasy X. That was it! No special expansion characters, no epilogue levels, no bonus costumes. It was $50. I played it and I was happy. The only added expense was the guide I bought. It was a simpler time. The complete lack of options is somehow relieving.

Even if I ignore the DLC nowadays, knowing that I'm not getting the entirety of the game up-front would prey on my mind. And then I end up spending $80 and what was meant to be a $50 purchase. What it comes down to is; if I have to pay for a game, I hate having to pay extra just to feel like I've played through all of it.

Be honest though, only a small small fraction of DLC ever really makes the game feel complete. How many Broken Steel's are there compared to RE5 costume packs, or even Mass Effect's arena DLC?

Oh, I don't really have a problem with DLC like that, Wayne, it's stuff like Dragon Age, where you have to pay for items and extra levels that they advertise IN GAME. Or Prince of Persia's epilogue. I'm all for adding stuff after release, don't get me wrong. I just think there's a fine line between bonuses and outright extortion, and that more games are crossing this line more frequently. I mean cmon, the game isn't even out yet!

All that aggressive DLC junk makes me not want to buy the game. Even MW2 when they said there would be 3 map packs, that makes me want to say no-thanks to the game. I mean one is fine, 2 if the game is really popular, and 3 is pushing it unless 1 is free (halo-esque).

Well, I am just going to wait until Bioshock 2 hits bargain bins then since I never really had a huge interest in a crummy sequel that now they are going to try and whore out irrational games franchise and ruin. THANKS GUYS. This is why your stuff gets pirated, sells terrible or is trashed, you know how to push gamers buttons.

I think the shocker is the game isn't out yet, but, the DLC is already in the works. Kind of like its something that could be included on the disc... ... ... Just like tons of rip-off dlc where its a magic 32kb worth of code that 'unlocks' the 'dlc' including 'new' art assets etc.

Bend over gamers and get prepared to be bio-shocked.
