A 2K Marin representative has confirmed that BioShock 2 will have DLC -- we'd have been (bio)shocked otherwise. Speaking to AustralianGamer, Senior Systems Designer Kent Hudson revealed that the studio has "pretty aggressive plans for DLC" and that it's "something that is already under-way." No further details were provided.
The original BioShock was lacking in the DLC department, only providing some extra plasmids and adding challenge rooms for the PS3 port. Hopefully, the numerous studios working on the sequel will have all their Splicers in a row for the game's February 9 release date.

that's bad news. I wish gaming sites didn't push this news around like it's good. Every time someone says something about DLC (especially if it's before game release), i just know that cool shit has been cut from the original game, and i'll have to pay more than it's worth to get it back.

Loved the first game (one of my favorites ever) but everything about this game screams cash in and unnecessary. I'd prefer a new IP over pimping out one of the best games this gen because Take2 needs payola. It'll be hard to pass up but I think I'll just rent it or wait for the goty edition with all the content included. The prospects of multiplayer isn't all that exciting but they weren't in UC2 and that turned out fantastic. I'm just so conflicted about the game and I'm not sure how to feel about this agressive DLC.

I don't get why so many people get all up in arms when DLC is announced before the game is out. What company in this day and age ISN'T thinking about DLC as part of the development process now? It's a way to A) get more money, and B) expand the game. A win for them, and a win for you.
If you choose to get it, that is. It's downloadable content, it's NOT required. You don't HAVE to buy it. It's an add-on, a bonus, an extra. If you think it's stupid, or wrong, or whatever, don't get it. Problem solved.

Random, the thing is that more often the DLC feels like stuff that should have been in the game in the first place. The games companies are just taking the piss sometimes. I'm more than happy to pay for expansion packs, but not stuff that should be mine by rights in the first place.
Games used to be 40-60 hours long, nowadays it feels like they're barely 10 hours with maybe an extra 10 hours in DLC you have to pay for. How is this a good thing?

I don't know about you guys, but I have yet to download any dlc that double's a game's length. More like 10 hour game with an hour and a half of dlc content.

@Bill
Games didn't used to be 40-60 hours long. RPGs used to be 40-60 hours long, and they still are nowadays.
FPS games were never 40-60 hours long. Doom was shorter than modern shooters. Hack and slash games were never 40-60 hours long, they were the same length they are now.
What you're seeing is that different genres (that lend to shorter games) are now more popular than they were before. The games are still the same length, there are just more shooters and slashers than there were back then.
And for god's sake, who the hell wants a 60 hour shooter? Talk about mundane, 10 hours should be the absolute max for that type of game and even that's pushing it before it starts getting stale. That's just the nature of the genre.

Yeah, I can say that I've never played anything not RPG related outside of 40 hours. Well, the Dynasty Warriors games, but that's because I get a lot of replayability out of hacking and slashing. So cathartic after work.
I see Bill's frustration on SOME DLC being there JUST to milk the consumer. But certainly not all of it. And I'm not going to be the one to decide what should and shouldn't be in the game.

This is terrible. The game isn't even out yet. Why not put that stuff in the game already? The whole point is to get more money from people.
I'm all for DLC that comes out long after a game's release, the whole point of it is to keep the game fresh. But day 1 DLC is cancer.

Bayonetta is not a ripoff of DMC,hard to ripoff your own creation.
The original team who created and developed the DMC games made Bayonetta. PG games is made up of ex capcom employees from ex clover team to the RE series creator and DMC developers.

More evidence that Bioshock 2 is more of a money grab than a legitimate sequel. This is the last straw, I'm not buying this on release. Maybe when it's heavily discounted, but there's no way I'm buying this day one.

The number one rule of creating downloadable content:
Don't talk about it until right after the game releases, otherwise people think you've been planning DLC and withholding content from development the whole time, or they'll just wait until you do a repackaging that has all the DLC in it for less then the game originally released for.
Seriously, developers, publishers, keep your fucking mouths shut. If you're going to screw us over, at least try and make it seem like you aren't, and if you legitimately aren't, then don't do shit like this which makes it seems like you are.

The problem is that to be a game developer you have to be a smart person. And it's hard for someone like that to imagine that there are people that stupid out there that have no concept of the software development life cycle and think that every mention of DLC just means they're with-holding stuff from the game to sell later.

I don't think a word of that holds true or is relevant to this situation or the DLC situation at large. If developers are planning anything even remotely specific on downloadable content before a game comes out, it looks like development time and money that's supposed to be paid for with your $60 purchase is being used on DLC that you're going to need to pay for later if you want to enjoy it. That's the problem with this, and that's the problem with every game that does this.
What developers should be doing is going "here's how much time we have, here's how much money we have, let's make this game, and when we're done, we'll start working on DLC if people are asking for it and we think it'll be profitable." Period.

I think we're all struggling with coming to terms with this Brave New DLC World. I too am wary of being nickel and dimed to death for legit content after shelling out $60 for a game.
That said, if the packaged game is content heavy, doesn't feel intentionally hobbled for future DLC, and well-reviewed, I will absolutely pick it up as the original Bioshock is one my favorite games all time.

how do you guys even know there will be a GOTY edition? and if there is are you sure the DLC will even be on it? it could just be a lowered price tag, and it could take 2 or 3 years before they release a price cut version.
tell me how many games have released a game of the year edition that had some or all or even any of its DLC on it? i know of 2 for PS3 and 3 for 360, the 2 for ps3 are shared with the 360.

I honestly cannot put into words how much i hate dlc and the way developers purposly take out content and/or releases dlc directly after the release of the game. Dlc is destroying console gaming or just robbing console owners, look at Assasssins Creed 2, if you own the game on the console you have to pay for the two dlc's, if you by it on pc in march the dlc are already on the disk. What happened to paying for the entire game being on the disk that you originally purchased. I'd rather the game be delayed than have tons of dlc be released after.
