Less than a dime-bag... by one cent. Ouch. Still, not a bad deal.

@dillpunk - Since when does anyone ever actually weigh out dime-bags? In my experience, it's just something you eyeball. Stems do pack bulk, making it look like more than it is.

....anyway, $9.99 is a pretty good deal, assuming they did a good job with the touch-controls.

Is this the full game or is it cut? Cause damnnn they will get a lot bigger audience than the DS or PSP, I wouldn't be surprised if this brought in more money than the other 2, for that price.

Sorry for replying to myself, but this is like the first 'proper' game on the Iphone, and for a great price. I'll finally get a chance to play this notoriously underappreciated game :)

This is not the first "proper" game on iPhone, and unlike the other handhelds, the number of users doesn't necessarily equal a bigger audience, because many people who use iPhones don't necessarily play games, or aren't looking to play a GTA style game.

@Marty

While I agree this is far from the first full game on the iPhone, I disagree with your second statement. While it's true that not all iPhone users are going to want GTA, judging from the price point and people's enthusiasm so far with the game's release on the system, I'd be you a dollar it'll be in the top 5 by the end of the month.

It might be on the top 5 - hell, it might even nab the #1 spot. But that doesn't mean everyone with an iPhone is buying it, and it doesn't mean that the iPhone market is a bigger market for games than the DS or PSP.

My understanding is that it's the full game (though it only clocks in at like 160 MB). It's fun, though it's sort of hard to drive the car with much precision (since you're working with left/right touchscreen buttons).

Oh god. Some of the vehicles were hard to control with actual buttons, I'm looking at you NR900(I think thats the name). The cars themselves shouldn't be the problem though, a couple of the really fast ones might be, it'll be the bikes.

Also, it might be kind of hard to do the driving missions, all of which have nice bonuses at the end.

I guess this means toaster version is up next! It's only 10 bucks but even at that price it seems really high to have to suffer through dog doo controls. Shame too...Chinatown Wars was a REALLY good game.

Rockstar must have taken a big hit on this game if their going to these extremes to make sure everyone and there mother plays it.

The controls aren't that bad. Of course I would prefer physical controls for running about but in a game where you have to do plenty of touch-based minigames it is nice to not have to fumble with whipping out a stylus.

I assume this means you've played both versions? I didn't finish Chinatown Wars on the DS but always wanted too. Should I give the iPhone version a shot?

Actually no, on screen controls can be very good, and these are no exception. In my personal opinion, I like on screen controls better than tilt controls in iPhone games. It's very precise.

But hey, way to sound like someone without this system that's spewing unnecessary hate!

Actually, I agree with him. I had Gangstar on my iPod touch (which I since sold) and I have Chinatown Wars on my PSP. Same with Field Runners, Tetris, and a bunch of other games: There's absolutely no comparison between the touch-screen controls and actual physical controls. Real controllers are FAR better and easier to use.

With the touch screen control, you're actually covering part of the screen with your own hand. That's just plain annoying.

I liked my iPod touch, but after really messing with the games for a while (and I had a LOT of them) I decided it was pretty lousy as a game console. It'll do in a pinch, but when put up against something that was designed with that function in mind, it loses in just about every category except MAYBE portability.

Selling the iPod touch and getting away from Apple products was the best thing I did for myself in 2009.

Death to on-screen joysticks.

And death to Joystiq for making me automatically type the word "joystick" with a Q every time I type it now.

On-screen joysticks can work well but they still have that clunky feeling or at least a lack of fun you get from tactile buttons. BTW I still don't feel the iPhone has had it's full-on game yet.

Actually, I feel the same. I have the impression that they simply scaled up most of DS graphics and blurred some of the textures, which gives the iPhone version a somewhat washed-out look.

Nevertheless, just like the DS version, the game looks nicer in motion than the screenshots imply. But still, the iPhone should have been capable of crisper graphics.

Now it makes sense that Sony dropped the price for the PSP version by $10 to $19.95 a few weeks ago...still not sure if the PSP version is worth 2x the iPhone version but for better or wurst I bought the PSP version last week...
