It's said that developers who work on the smallest platforms have the biggest hearts. ... OK, no one says that, but we're thinking about getting it started after reading about App Relief, a coalition of developers donating their proceeds to relief efforts in Haiti, which recently suffered a catastrophic earthquake.
Launched by Josh Hernandez, CEO of bitFLIP developer Metamoorephosis Games, the effort is now 10 games strong, with all the developers (so far) donating 100 percent of money spent on those games for the next week to the Red Cross' work in Haiti.
... Sorry, we don't have a joke here. Go buy all those games.

Could be a great ad for the Haiti relief fund that iTunes has, though.

Nice. Let us all give money to another country while we have people starving, dying, etc... in ours. Of course, people have gotten too Politically Correct for their own good, and anyone tells the truth gets scrutinized.

Yeah, how dare we try to help out someone in need. Oh no, let's just forget about everyone else and only help our own country.

There is a guy named Bradwart the Vagina on the site? I must meet him at once!
If we were to help every other country in need, we would be broke.

How childish are you, that you make a name to take a dig at another commenter? Not very professional of you. I imagine it would take an educated guess to see who Bradwart argues with the most to understand who you are.

Because Haiti is the hot-shit with all the whiny, liberal college drop-outs. If we gave this amount of attention and aid to every country in need, we would be broke. Of course, since there is so much attention paid to Haiti, everyone must chip in. Other countries have a problem? Too bad.

Haiti is an ittybittyteenyweenylittlebitty country on an ittybitty island, and one of if not THE poorest nation in the western hemisphere. And they just lost 100,000+ citizens to natural disaster, and their most populated city was reduced to complete rubble.
People did help China and India, and people did help with the aftermath of 9/11 (hello... We had plenty of allies march into Afganistan and Iraq with us), we also had help with Katrina. This is an entirely different situation that warrants an entirely different response, the Haitian government would never be able to handle this on their own, whereas the US, China, and India can more than take care of themselves (though obviously, still deserved a helping hand).

Why is it every time a country tries to help another one, there is always someone bitching about it?
It's like heckling someone who's helping an old lady get up.

More than happy to help Haiti, but I REALLY don't like it when I see stuff like this.

That's absolutely spot on. I just saw on the news today that we're (America) sending over 11k troops. ELEVEN THOUSAND.
That's 1/3 of what we're sending to a country we're at war with.
THAT's politics folks. THIS is how you make "friends" in the world. And then when we need a favor from that territory, we'll call it in and remind them of the help we provided during their time of need.
This is reality, not some idealistic bullshit some democrats and republicans will have you believe.
They need help but trust me, American politicians have more than just "good will" on their agenda. NO ONE gives $100 million worth of "good will", NO ONE.

Pro Tip: Hey Joystiq, if you have a serious article devoid of snark and cynicism, may I suggest disabling the comment section. You've been in the business for several years and should know that a good portion of internet dwellers lack basic human decency.

Or you could support freedom of speech and not do that.
If something that you choose to see bugs you so much, then you should remove it. AKA, don't even scroll down or ignore the stupid comments.
Although I'm not fond of the asshole comments towards a damaged country like that. I don't mind the puns, but the sheer disrespect is disheartening.

Freedom of Speech doesn't apply here as Joystiq is privately held and not owned by the people.
Commenting here is a privilege not a right. There's a reason why I can get banned if I wished ill directed at the trolls.

I agree, the US needs to mind its own citizens before being anywhere near the position to send relief, much less TEN THOUSAND TROOPS to another country's aid. I do consider myself qualified to say this having served a year with Americorps VISTA and spending most of my time helping organize volunteers (note: not paid US troops and civil servants) to repair and recover from the effects of a particularly nasty series of ice storms that crippled the rural northeast a couple years ago. More people die every year from being priced out of heating oil and freezing to death in cold weather in the northeast than any other type of natural disaster/extreme weather like tornados, quakes, forest fires, etc. that get all the media attention. Oh and yeah, Mississippi and Louisiana are *STILL* covered in devastation and ruin after Katrina, but everything is hunky-dory to your average American because the French quarter and the casinos are back up and running.
The problem isn't that we can't help, the problem is that almost all goodwill and charity in the U.S. comes from people who are already impoverished, near-impoverished, and the lower-middle class. If Red Cross marketing is sapping relief aid to help Haiti (and, let's face it, to pay for their own administrative shenanigans) and the US taxpayer (mostly money from the dying middle class in this country) is paying for relief efforts, then that's just that much more money that isn't helping poor American kids who, unlike their Haitian counterparts, can grow up to change America with their votes and other contributions as citizens.
