I... wasn't serious.
I was wondering how long it would take to elicit a response.
But you should still make that discovery, could be very useful.

For people outside the United States who are wondering why there are so few posts today, the reason is because today is Martin Luther King day. It is a day when we reflect upon the lessons of a fallen civil rights leader, consider how far we have come since then, and look forward to see how much progress remains.

For example, you may not know that 40 years ago there were ZERO African-American bloggers on Joystiq. But today... uh, today, well... maybe if you squint real hard while you look at Andrew?

Never mind. Check back in 10 years.

ROFLMAO!!!

Real story, I considered applying last year when they were hiring for PS3Fanboy writers.....glad I didn't waste my time because not even a few months later they phased out the "fanboys" cutting off the non-affiliated PSNation podcast(understandable since its not affiliated) but leaving the 360 podcast....real good way to get rid of the SEGREGATION Joystiq....

But I have a dream. That all my gaming brethren will come together and stand up for what its right. I have a Dream Today....

Chris D, you have to learn how to make coherent sentences with nogrammatical errors before you become a writer.

Andrew Yoon is already a big enough PS3 fanboy. We don't need another one as a "writer."

I second Parasite's comment, mostly about having enough Sony fanboys as writers. I don't have a problem with Chris writing, other than every 5th word being in capitals. That would be an annoying article to read.

And of course, I made a mistake with my previous post. But the difference is, I'm not trying to become a writer of any sort.

If writing was my profession then it would be a lot better than what I put in some comments on a blog. Numerous 15+ page papers I have written, none of which were under a 90. And Andrew isn't a fanboy at all, and I have long since came from where I once was in terms of "fanboyism". Anyways like I said it would have been writing for the PS3Fanboy site anyways. Requirement was that you owned a PS3 & a PSP, as well as other things. So writing for a site with "fanboy" in the title and being in the corner of said console would be no biggie, as long as articles weren't OVERLY biased. I mean hell I do own all 3 consoles, I can't be that bad.

No offense Chris, but even that last reply you posted was the biggest grammatical fuckfest I've ever seen out of anyone claiming they wanted to work as a writer. I realize it's just a comment on a blog article, but jesus man some of that shit looks unfixable, and you'd think you could at least put forth the effort to not look like a grammatical artard (nothing against you personally, just your barely readable grammar) on the very blog you want to work for.

The one thing I'm really not looking forward to in the near future is Digital Distribution. At first it sounds awesome, but judging by how a lot of companies are starting to combat used game sales (see this/dragonage) its pretty apparent how they are going to treat any form of used digital game sales. Beyond that, im sure they wont be like Steam where they give awesome deals a few times a year to make up for the fact that there is no used market. You'll get something like Xbox live where you get a mediocre sale on an old title once a week, when the title should have already been lowered due to the fact that its old.

That said, i've got my amazon preorder for ME2 ready to be shipped, and i cant fucking wait.

Wait, are you only gonna be able to download this for free if you have the game in hand? No downloading it free now then playing it later?

Thats how I did the DLC suit upgrade for Dead Space. Downloaded it free, then buy the time I borrowed a friends copy i had forgotten I had the DLC.

If this is the case, it may spur a few more new copies to be sold, but the used game market is flourishing due to the economy, and it'll take more than some free DLC on day 1 to offset the dollars saved later down the road for a used game. At least, in my case it will. I rarely buy new games now, unless its been out for a while and been discounted considerably already.

nobody knows for sure yet. but considering how they did it in Dragon age (Same company) you'll get a card with a code on it in the game box that will allow you to download the content for free. once the code is used it can not be used again, so if you sell it, the content stays with you and the new owner of the game has no way of getting that DLC (unless they later release it to everyone, which at that point they charge for it to make money on the used game sales)

It's a way to discourage piracy, buying the game used, and to encourage early sales. It's DLC done smart as a gift to the early purchasers.

I don't pirate games and I don't see how killing the used market is an advantage to me since I tend to buy games months after they come out when the prices have dropped due to competition from the used market. I don't usually buy them used, but I'm not morally opposed to it either. I just bought Dead Space for $20, should I somehow be wishing I'd paid $50 instead?

So how does companies playing shenanigans with DLC really benefit me?

And it's no more a gift than the rest of the content is. You pay for the game, it comes with content. None of it is a gift just because they happen to label it a little bit differently.

The more incentive to buy it new, the more sales they receive. It's a win-win situation.

This just sounds like the new standard system where there is a code included to download DLC so that when you sell it used or rent it you don't get it.

Let's say they cut some chatskis from the game to give it away to new purchases. If that's true you aren't really getting extra content so much as you are getting the full game. Wasn't the Dragon Age free DLC a storage chest? Hardly something that should be DLC (free or otherwise) in the first place. However, this is probably the best route to reward new purchasers ... should be substantial though. Maybe the ME2 dlc will be just that and not something mundane.

don't know what your talking about but the free dlc of dragon age was shale. a whole new companion with his own skill set. two quests area relating to her. tons of dialougue and interaction.

The paid DLC on warden's keep was a quest area and gave you gear skills and a chest to keep loot

im sorry but this is utter trash..im getting sick of the DLC crap thats being pulled this gen. If its something available on LAUNCH it should be in game end of story...I understand when a developer releases a game then spends 6 months on an expansion the releases that a a fair price point and extends a games life...but these nickle and dime (well dollar and 5) POS DLC items need to stop..

But since the $ controls the contenet and no one seems to be able to restrain themself then I know it wont..but I for one have never bought anything off live until the price dropped...and even then its been VERY few and far between...

Sounds to me like the game went gold before some of the side content was actually finished. For all those without a connection to Xbox Live, this would suck if this was the case, since you'd be screwed out of content you otherwise could have gotten.

Luckily this doesn't seem like what they did for Gears 2 where they threw in a voucher for stuff that should have been on a disc to combat used sales and piracy. The intentions may have been good with that, but it's still a fucked up business practice. As long as this isn't the case, I can't actually be upset with this.

As for the rest of ME2's DLC, as long as it feels worth the asking price and doesn't feel like it was cut at the last minute or should have been on the disc, I'll be sure to pick it up. Bring Down The Sky was actually a pretty fun little mission that quantity and quality wise fit well between a main quest and a side quest. It wasn't the greatest value ever, but it wasn't bad for a $5 purchase either.

I could support this business model.

Release DLC along the launch of the game to possibly boost first week sales and then convert it to premium content later. That might not be what Bioware is doing right now, but I can see it working
