We'll be frank -- there are quite a few JRPGs heading to consoles in the next few months. From Last Rebellion to White Knight Chronicles to Final Fantasy XIII, it's kinda hard to get excited for yet another in Resonance of Fate. That being said, the game's screens and video have thus far been unbelievably impressive (with the new gallery below serving to further that point), and our last hands-on with game was fairly positive. We'll do our best to remember all of that when the game releases on the same day as FFXIII. Seriously.

I don't know man; you're a young, fat little German boy with a penchant for chocolate pudding and I'm a 6' tall overbearing, chainsaw-wielding biker with a fondness of smoking and not finishing cigarettes...

Well I was excited for this from they first announced it (I have a soft spot for Tri-Ace for making Valkyrie Profile)..but after playing the demo, I will be buying this alongside FFXIII on day one. You should give the demo a try...its won't take too long to get the hang of the battle mechanics, but its all in japanese u_u...

@Archi
Then your in luck because starting next month we'll have White Knight Chronicles, Record of Agarest War, Last Rebellion, Star Ocean International, Final Fantasy 13, Final Fantasy 14 online, Resonance of Fate, Nier Replicant/Gestalt, Atelier Rorona and supposedly Trinity will all be on PS3 this year. There is also about 15 JRPGs that could get localized here in the states if sales of these other titles go well enough. There is also that long standing rumor that there will be a Shin Megami Tensei game exclusively on PS3.

Releasing the same day of FF13 is ballsy, but it is also stupid. FF automatically places the Doom spell over Resonance of Fate with the countdown replaced by the release date "3.09.10"
At least in Japan the game was released after FF13 so that everyone that sped through FF13 and is searching for a new RPG can have something to go to.

I dunno, if I had to buy one of these games on the same day they came out, it would be Resonance of Fate. But hey that's just my love for not playing bad games. Wagga wagga waggaimronaldreagan

Being an action rpg with guns, the demo reminded me of Parasite Eve.

I have to congratulate Joystiq for giving this game a fair chance. IGN and Eurogamer have also done so, but I've seen several Western gaming sites who go "omg another JRPG,, and it's by Tri-Ace" and not mention (or I suspect, bothered to investigate) the game's unique twists on gameplay.

Final Fantasy 13 and this on the same day. I played the JP demo of this when it came out and enjoyed it a lot because it's something different. It may have the usual rpg elements but holy shit it's guns and grenades not swords and magic!
I'm excited to play this and 13 on the same day but I have the feeling I'll be on linear 13 more :

Demo was rather interesting, but I had no idea wtf was going on the whole time. I just knew you had to run towards an enemy as a timer thing charges up on it, jump and shoot when it's full over and over till you hit the ground. Did a team attack somehow once. Couldn't do it again.
Graphics were crazy good tho. Fun stuff.

Guys don't forget there's also Star Ocean: The Last Hope - International coming out. Although it's not really new...it's a PS3 JRPG.

Hopefully they (Sega) don't pull a "Bayonetta" on this and do a halfass job with putting it on the ps3 while showing favortism to the xbox again.
I refuse to play Bayonetta on that premise alone given the bad reviews on the ps3 version. Don't halfass it, I dont support companies that halfass it.

Actually I mean every word of that. Besides Yakuza, SEGA doesn't really make good games. I suppose Valkyria was alright. And XIII looks generic, absurd, and corny. Resonance of Fate on the other hand seems like it has all the makings of a good game, and looks much more impressive to me both in gameplay and graphics than Fina Fantasy XIIIIIIIIwhatever.
Sorry broseph, not everyone who doesn't think like you is a troll, or trying hard at anything. Sometimes (and though it happens once in a blue moon) they're sharing their opinion! Wacky, I know!

Between the half-assed ports, and the worst concievable released dates I've seen it looks like Sega is trying to shoot itself in the foot. Come 3.9.10 no matter how good this game is, I'm going to be thinking "Resonance of What-now?". Maybe I'll look into it over the summer if it gets good reviews.

Why do people keep saying that this is coming out on the same day as FF XIII? It's not scheduled for release until late spring or early summer (Amazon has it at May 31, and Sega has it listed as Spring 2010). Gamestop is the only one that is saying March 9.
