So wait, you don't need homebrew installed or freeloader or anything, it'll all just run off a memory card?

If so, that is awesome.

It uses homebrew yes, but no modifications beyond that. Very impressive work I must say!

Ahh, well I guess I'll finally be downloading the homebrew channel.
Does this site have NWFB's old homebrew glossary and guide?

The guide will have been changed now, if your Wii is current in its firmware. Otherwise, it could still be found. Everything that did exist on NWF still exists under the nintendo.joystiq.com heading, it just takes some finding

I wish I could afford to import the game. I really, really wanted to play it, wonky controls and all.

Thank God!

I've been checking on that website every few months and kept seeing it stuck at 98.4% or so. I was afraid it'd never come out!

You might also want to investigate.
Although you don't -have- to modify your console to play it, I could have sworn that they made it so that it wouldn't allow it to run on pirated copies. Not certain though.

I approve! I'm never played the Fatal Frame series, but I love fans coming together and making things more accessible for fellow fans.

No soft-mod needed? Mine got jacked by firmware 4.2, and don't feel the need to reinstall

I'll take a look at this, if i get a chance in this crowded 2010.

So is this something Nintendo might "fix" with an upcoming firmware release, making the game useless to my sorry Romance-language stricken self?

I don't see why. There's a difference between having region locking, and actively fighting imports. This patch applies to perfectly legitimate copies of the game, so if anything it creates more business for them

I just wonder if this patch fixes the game-breaking bugs that helped lead to the dispute that kept the game in Japan in the first place.

@Khan

Except if it does use homebrew then it would be patched out like any other homebrewn with the next update. Of course, they haven't been successful in permanently blocking the homebrew scene and I don't see any reason to expect that to change.

As far as I can see on the website, you don't need to modify in any way your Wii. It have the patches for firmwares, and homebrew if you have it.

This is an excellent job and like Carl says, it definitely deserves a donation.

Finally I'll be able to play this awesome game! I'm a huge fan of FF and it really pissed me off the fact that Nintendo decided NOT to launch the game on the US.

Now I will, but not thanks to Nintendo or TECMO.

BTW: I already downloaded the patches and ordered the game... Yaay!

This is absolutely fantastic and these people deserve alot of donations. They just localized the game for free when other companies pay people premium salaries to do that very job.

It also proves that there IS enough of a market for fans and customers to want this game in English, whether Nintendo or Tecmo thought so or not.

Excellent news. Please support these guys!

A group of people translating a game and a dozen or so Joystiq commentors =/= "enough of a market".

Its great that they did this, but the game will only have a very small import spike, as the game has already been imported by people who didn't need a translation, which would most likely be the majority of people.

Only thing we can hope for is that Nintendo will make the decision to localize the game.

There are 3 versions of the patch: one for pre-4.2, one for 4.2+, and one for the homebrew channel.

I have played the prologue and first 2 chapters with the patch and this is a beautiful piece of work. Very little is left untranslated and for the most part there are few grammatical errors or obscure translations. Fans of the series who import will not be disappointed...the magic is back!

I remember when it was at 99.9%, then it went back to 90.2%. Eventually they just stopped showing what % they were done with

@Akashic: We hit a few technical bumps with Riivolution, the patching program, so even though the translation was done the program to apply it wasn't. Also, some quirks in the game had to be fixed (font stuff, etc.).

The link for Beyond The Camera's Lens is incorrect. The link provided is specific to the translation site. BCL is located at: http://www.cameraslens.com .

Just a heads up. :)

I bought the game from playasia and, like all good importers, I promptly made a copy of it so as to not risk scratching my expensive, grey-market edition. I am more than willing to play on the actual disc, but does anyone know if my backup will work, or do I need to just play with the real thing.

So what do you have to do to get this game. Do you just buy the SD or you also have to buy the game? Where?
