I also made the comparison of Dante's Inferno to GOW Collection to my friends who said they liked Dante's demo

GOW3 looks like a whole gen up from Dante's Inferno with its crappy scratch looking graphics and effects.

How are the button time events? Just as button timey as always? Ugh, I know I'm going to end up buying this damned game, and I'll get sick of it and sell it back for 1/5 of the price, again.

well I know they got rid of the annoying button smashing for opening doors, as for the bosses they still do have button sequences.

I can't wait for this game, I recommend The God Of War Collections, guys its a great buy and it has I think it was a 30 minute demo of GOW:lll, can't quite remember, but its quite a good length for a demo. It's only $40 and the visual upgrades are a big plus. It makes it feel like a game from today but with awesome GOW:I&II gameplay. Some low quality cut scenes but no biggie. IT'S A MUST OWN!

I really wanted to be a badass and chop up things with my chain blade things, that was fun, but I DIDN'T want to play fucking DDR just to finish off a boss. I thought it was NOVEL when RE4 did it, definitely not innovative, and I wish button time events would die. And no sir, "YOU'RE" wrong.

Hey, you're the one that said my opinion was wrong initially, but that was doubleplusgood how you flipped that right around without even noticing. If I had previously stated that I sold back two or three copies in the GoW series, why would you recommend that I buy them all again?

I said " guys I recommended it", I was talking to the other guys here. But I can see the confusion I caused, and I was playing when I said " you wrong cuz im right".. I did that on purpose, I didn't think you were going to take it in a bad way, my mistake. Anyway, I'm done. Later.

Don't worry, Kratos didn't hear you Ryuk...

He's too busy jamming out to the sound of a hundred sirens being laid instantly by him, and the gurgled, bloody screams of Helios as his head is torn right off his shoulders, while he's killing that said spider and listening to the Titan's constant chain of cussing as the spider stings him.

I'm not trying to come off like an asshole or anything, but I remember playing the first God Of War game and turning it off after a couple of minutes. It really didn't capture my interest as much as I figured it would...

Quite possibly I just didn't give it a long enough try, I suppose. A game this critically acclaimed by pretty much everyone can't be without it's reasons.

Sigh I know, I'm a weird little fat german. I'm going to drown my sorrow in chocolate pudding now.

If you turned it off after a couple of minutes then that means you didn't fight the Hydra which is all it took to hook me in.

You're not necessarily alone Mystile. I do love me some God of War and plan on finishing the trilogy this March, but it's not exactly a great franchise. Ninja Gaiden Black and DMC3 require far more skill to master and feel much more satisfying once you do.

I personally enjoy God of War on a different level from those games. It's very much the vidoe game equivalent of a summer movie blockbuster. It might not have all the depth you're looking for but it's one hell of a ride.

I did fight the Hydra, and I was like.. ok cool... let's pop in something else. I've never been a big graphics whore either. Graphics are the icing on the cake for a good game, but they don't make a good game.

I don't know, like I said, maybe I didn't give it a fair shot, but I didn't feel compelled to give it another try either.

I've always found the combos in God Of War to be much more intuitive than Devil May Cry. As for Ninja Gaiden I just use that dash attack throughout the whole thing...

@Traceur

Yeah the combo system in GoW is hell-better than it is in DMC, BUT you can't button mash your way through DMC3 like you can in God of War.

Sometimes I'm just smacking the square button over and over till I win in God of War. It can get a bit tedious. It made even worse by the seriously silly QTE. They're not fun or entertaining...why keep them in?

I dunno, I think they're quite entertaining. Also, Devil May Cry is pretty much about button mashing, don't know where you're getting that from. Though when I beat it, I just put it on the hardest difficulty and killed everything in one shot, I found it easier than on very easy.

You know, I'll admit, even though I consider myself a huge GOW fan (I think GOWII is the best action game, ever), DMC and Ninja Gaiden DO have a deeper combat system than GOW. That doesnt mean that GOW isnt deep, cause it absolutely is, but but its just not AS deep. I think that GOWIII will be much deeper though, they seem dedicated to bringing weapons that are actually useful and fun to use (other than the blades of chaos) unlike GOWII, and there some to be a lot of new gameplay mechanics complementing the increase in the scale of the game and enemies on-screen at a giving time. And trading orbs for upgrades in weapons never gets old, you know...

DMC, bayonetta, NInja Gaiden can have all the combos and button memorization in the world but as long as God of War exists they can never truly call themselves bad-ass.

GoW had the exact opposite effect on me. I watched my roommate play it for an hour or so then started my own save file. I think it was about 6 hours before I put down the controller.

The first GoW changed my perception of what a good game was, the only other time this has happened was recently when I played Uncharted 2.

I fully expect GoW 3 to do the same, and that is saying a lot.

I think the thing is DMC and NG both lack the EPIC movie atmosphere and while they are very deep in combat and well thought out, and by all means fun to play, GOW remains intense. Take boss fights for example, GOW tends to make bosses huge and exciting and all the more thrilling to bring down. DMC and NG are more straight forward. Most of the bosses I've fought in both games felt like harder version of the regular enemies I fight. I suppose its all down to what you prefer.

They are all repetitive, but all have different ways of holding your interest, I wouldn't say any of them are button mashers as such, playing God of war on the hardest difficulty taught me that, while I was mainly pressing square, I did have to think about tactics as opposed to easy where I just slashed everything to death. The same could be said for my experience in DMC / NG where I spent more time jumping around and holding / banging the shoot / slash button then pressing anything else and only changed that when I switched to more difficult modes.

While the first GOW certainly didn't feel as "deep" in combat as DMC or Ninja Gaiden I certainly had about as much fun on it as the other two. I also think the second one added a lot with things like the Golden Fleece and as has been mentioned it had almost unmatched epic set pieces and bosses.

Hilarious. I had a similar feeling, though I played the first much longer as I was so impressed by the graphics and control. But my friend got me the HD pack, and I started with 1 again, but decided to go to GOW2. Maybe I was excited because of the excellent GOW3 demo, but freaking GOW2 is bomb, where I thought GOW1 was good.
