UK charts: Just Dance on Modern Warfare 2's grave

For nine straight weeks, the UK's gamer populace has been mesmerized by the siren's song of Modern Warfare 2. Today, that's all changed, with the latest Chart-Track data showing a new entry usurping Modern Warfare 2's top spot: Just Dance. Ubisoft's quirky dance title for the Wii has enjoyed a level of success there we would never have thought possible. Can its performance be attributed to good advertising or simply the United Kingdom's unrestrained love of Kevin Bacon?

And MW2 wasn't even in the second spot, either. Wii Fit Plus managed to grab the silver, while Infinity Ward's shooter was bumped down to a respectable bronze. Newcomers Bayonetta and Darksiders also managed to stay on the list, along with Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed 2, which stealthily secured the tenth spot.

Definitely a game that appeals to the casuals.

Yeah I see COD as a casual game as well really.
You know a game is casual when alot of females and parents know what it is lol.

Interesting, den-69... Never considered Grand Theft Auto as a casual game.

Look on things like facebook... when you get girls mentioning a game thinking it makes them cool for knowing what it is, it is casual lol.

Not my cup of tea, but to those that like this sort of game enjoy.

The strange thing is, I consider people that ONLY play Modern Warfare 2 just as casual as most Wii owners.

This is sad....

Last time I played it and I've other people who played it as well...the "motion-sensing" for the dance moves barely even register. So you might even be better off just dancing to a bunch of MTV music videos than paying $50 for this flaming scam.

On a positive note, I'm glad that Darksiders made the list. That game is amazing!

Those are dudebro casuals Traceur. Though they are casuals, they haven't been infected with "teh casual" as much as young children, middle aged women, and old people have been.

Even though all they play is MW2, at least it's a good game and not some shitty casual dancing game. I'm trying to find some sort of positive here....

Tre, I agree. For example, who's the more casual gamer? The guy that plays nine diverse but shitty Wii games or the guy that only plays MW2?

Well, it's a 3rd party title for Wii topping the charts. therefore, it is possible. Another myth about the videogame market debunked.

However, I'd wish Rabbids go Home was the Ubisoft title to reach such milestone...

Yes, because I'm sure the fact that the game was the biggest release of 2009, and is one of the most played multiplayer games out right now is going to upset Activision, Infinity Ward, MW2 players, etc...

i'm not special cause i hate it .. it's just all these people say how great this game is and i think it's over hyped and not as great as people say it is .. and to be beat out in sales by a game like Just Dance makes me laugh and glad at the same time. some people will look at this as a slap in the face and that crowed is who i laugh at.

Honestly this game seriously need to be knocked down a couple of pegs, it's not that good and a few people seem to worship it and it's been up top for quite sometime. after the 3rd or fourth comes out i hope people stop paying attention too it cause it will get old .. MW2 = MW with new story and a few changes online.

I somehow don't think that Infinity ward thinks of the dance genre as something they compete against. -

Or better yet, compare it to film watchers. There are the people that watch Academy Award winning films then there are the people that watch whatever shit comes out in the theater that day.

What the fuck? That many people actually managed to find copies of Just Dance? That game has been rare as fuck for the last few weeks. We only got six copies in last week, and they were gone by the next day.

Traceur_Ryuk calm yourself down, that was uncalled for. You both have a point, yes, there are people who play gaming as much as others, or maybe its that those who play gaming simply have more time for it.

However, there is more to it then casual and hardcore gaming, for example, those of us that only play one game all the time, is that hardcore? What about those who play anything, but enjoy gaming fullstop, do they then become casual just because they don't obsessivly play the same game? Why can't a dance game or a singing game be classed as a hardcore game, there are people who take the time to master those games as much as any Modern Warfare gamer.

If I am playing games constantly now, am I considered hardcore, if I started working fulltime, and could only dedicate an hour or two to gaming, would I then become casual.

Does casual mean you are buying a game because it looks fun rather then reading up on it? Hmm, how many hardcore gamers do that, I know I do. I tend to think reviews spoil the purpose of gaming.

So Preston has a point, but I can also see where you're coming from.
