3D Dot Game Heroes' first English language screens

Click to Ys into the galleryAtlus has seen fit to bestow some new 3D Dot Game Heroes screenshots upon us, featuring a noteworthy addition to the game: the English language. These are the first screens of the localized version, which means that we can now make sense of the character editor for the first time! Some of these screens also feature something else that rarely makes it into 3D Dot screenshots: the UI. There's actually kind of a lot of stuff on the screen, which is a surprise given the otherwise retro presentation.

Of course, being an Atlus game, some clever dialogue is also on display, like the reference to the classic Ys combat system in the screenshot featured above.

As much as I love the premise I think I'll have to skip this one solely due to the fact that just looking at it makes me think I'm high on some kind of drug ~_~

I remember an old ASCII-graphics DOS game called "Castle" where you fought monsters by ramming into them using the cursor keys. But, you had to have the sword first. The first time I played the game and wandered into the garden, the Snake (note: he was not a Big Boss) came up to me and killed me, and it kept killing me until I finally figured out there was a sword somewhere else. Sort of like the first time I played the original Final Fantasy and couldn't understand why the lowest freaking enemies kept killing my party, because I didn't know you had to *equip* weapons and armor (I was playing blind at the time, no manual or guide of any sort).

Are you talking about "Castle of the Winds"?

No, that's something else (that I'm not familiar with). This is what I was referring to:

I guess its name was actually "Castle Adventure." I just checked one of my directories and found that, yep, I actually still have the game.
