This seems futile. Random developers get together to make crappy games in 48 hours? Why not make it a month at least so they could come up with decent product???

Well I can't speak for all of the teams involved but I know a lot are clubs at colleges. I wouldn't call them random developers, so much as independents who are looking to have some fun making a game and possibly getting something to add to their resume. The games aren't meant to have an significant amount of depth but more along the lines of something you'd find on the indie section of XBLA. And even once the contest is over, the teams can feel free to go back and improve their product for release elsewhere.

48 hours!? That's intense! It's like 25 minutes for the concept from beginning to end!

The rating system is acknowledged as broke. Check out the Indy games web
site for their top picks. The actual development is only
46 hours - 5pm Fri to 3pm Sun - and quite a
few of the games show some real talent and unique features. My favourites are Lag, Global Game Jam Game Jam Game, and BuminaBin from Newport (my work) and GraveMa from the rest.

it's gonna be interesting to see what the requirements are. I think our team wants to use XNA, which could be a disaster. I do stress that there is nothing wrong with actionscript. Anyone with previous history know?

I'm quite excited for it, participating at the one at Miami Ohio.

The idea isn't necessarily to make a 'high quality' product, but to develop new/creative ideas.

Can't wait to see who gets teamed up with me, just need to think of how we want to write this. . hah.
