Eurogamer recently got its eyes on a few "PS3D" tech demos at a Sony preview event held at Motorstorm developer Evolution Studios' offices yesterday. While most of the titles demoed there had been shown to press before, one new 3D-enabled game popped out: LittleBigPlanet.
Media Molecule's D.I.Y. platformer was panned by some critics for the three planes of depth players could navigate, which led to a lot of missed jumps and, well, death. However, Eurogamer's Richard Ledbetter claims that "stereoscopic 3D puts an end to that, ensuring each of the parallax elements occupies its own distinct area within the 3D space." While we're not fluent in Tron-speak, we're pretty sure that means "3D makes the game better." That's wonderful news!

Nice! If there was one game that was meant for 3-D, it's LittleBigPlanet. I'm sure it'll add on to that unique experience. It's good stuff.

LittleBigPlanet is a different case, though. It's not really a title that needs a sequel, given that the strength of the game lies in the creation tools and community maps.

Great point! 3-D and motion controller support would make this an entirely new experience. Talk about extending the shelf life of a product! It's no longer a game its officially a platform.

If motion controls are anything like the wii, i can see level creation getting a big boost out of that, with it's similiarity to mouse controls...

"a software update for the PS3 sometime in 2010 will enable it to provide a 3D viewing experience to 'all' existing games on the system"
So basically, the developers don't have to do anything to their games. It's all possible with a simple system patch that allows the PS3 to display it in 3D (since it's already rendering the entire 3D worlds anyway). I wouldn't be surprised if there were a few games where it didn't quite work right without a developer patch, but still, the addition of 3D shouldn't require any time for most developers.

I'd imagine they're working on both level packs for LBP, as well as implementing full PMC support.

They are, Marius. They were hiring for it last Summer so I'd wager to guess we'll see something for it at one of the big game conventions this year. I would be utterly shocked if it wasn't mentioned or shown off in some way ... kind of like how MAG was teased, then demoed on stage before it released.

lol ... big 3D. Reminds me of big tobacco! I'll buy one eventually and maybe once the prices drop and standardization is finished across the board.

I know really!
I found the game to be pretty boring honestly, but the cuteness had me playing enough to platinum it, and buy the 2 level packs (with costumes). It really isn't a fun platforming game, but I love Sackboy!

So... You think the game is boring and not fun... But you play it for the cute mascot, which was apparently enough to convince you to buy DLC...
I... I'm speechless.

well I paid $50 for the game, wanted to get my moneys worth. I bought the MGS pack because I'm a HUGE MGS fan.
Can't really give an explanation for the Pirates pack, though. I have more money than sense sometimes.

@Brad
Well in LBP's case, I think he's referring to MM making a new IP, not so much a sequel. I must admit that I too am interested to see what they can do next. There's only so long they can keep LBP relevant before they have to start on their next major project.
I can't wait to see what they can do next.

Well, he said new game or new franchise, so I assume he meant both.

"For now, they're "conducting a technological investigation" to see if they can even pull off that amazing stunt. Imagine, ALL PS3 games in 3-D. In fact, Sony said, "there is no plan for the market launch of this at this time."

So am I the only person in the world that likes it when developers continue making their games live instead of ensuring their death and then assuring that a sequel needs to get made?
Is it really better to have a Little Big Planet 2 or an even better Little Big Planet?
All this talk of relevancy.. all you have to do is keep the product alive.

They'll probably do a 3-D level pack at some point designed with it in mind.

I love how even if it is a useful feature, the fact it hasn't been used in much a useful manner prior will always condemn it to "gimmick"

From what I remember it was a deal for three exclusive IP's after Little Big Planet. Sony owns the IP itself and after Media Molecule makes 3 more new IPs they are basically free agents. http://www.n4g.com/ps3/News-232903.aspx though if the relationship goes well it could be a similar situation that we've seen with R&C & Resistance developer Insomniac Games.
They were hiring for a "AAA PS3 exclusive" early last year though nothing has been disclosed. I'd venture to guess we'll see something about this new game at E3 or Leipzig this year. http://www.ps3attitude.com/new/2009/06/media-molecule-new-title/ One rumor I read was that studio kingpin Alex Evans always wanted to make a rhythm game. As I stated ... we'll likely hear about it sometime this year whether it's at E3 or Leipzig.

I was watching a 3D TV demo at a Sony Style store last weekend, it was filled with the usual nature and polar bear stuff...but it also had quick videos of LBP and Wipeout HD 3D.
It looked amazing, and I can honestly say that playing this game in three dimensions will bring more to the gameplay and be more than some "gimmick"!

All I want now is some sort of YouTube integration :o
and the ability to send in-game invites to join me in playing, or to play a map I published (without me) - less writing messages and having people have to crawl through their friends list to me

Why is it that every time i see Richard Ledbetters name i get this tingling feeling inside me, and an urge to dig out my old SSM magazines? Man this guy and Lee Nutter were the fucking kings. Best magazine ever, and i still have my whole collection. So whenever this guy talks i listen.
