Many Modern Warfare 2 players still debate the game's best piece of weaponry. Fortunately, hackers have settled this timeless dispute once and for all: It is, of course, the gun that hurtles your opponent back in time, back to the days when he or she was a lowly, classless Private. Okay, there's apparently a new homebrewed glitch which accomplishes this feat, not a gun -- but it would be awesome if there was. We're envisioning the Infanto Ray which Borf used in Space Ace to turn awesome-Dexter into pantywaist-Dexter.
Yes, according to a few incensed forum posters, hackers have allegedly found a way to augment the amount of experience rewarded for killing them. Instead of the usual 50- or 100-point increments we usually see, these dubious players can punish their murderers with negative five million points, dropping their hard-earned rank back to level 1. Check out a NSFW video after the break to see this horrific new exercise (which appears to only be happening on Xbox Live) in motion. We've contacted the folks at Infinity Ward to find out what they're doing to crack down on these total Borfs.
[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

Do you really think a beta would have caught this hack? No matter how many fixes or bugs you catch, hackers will ALWAYS find a way. I just hope this is an easy fix. Crap like this makes me want to play MAG just a little bit more.

It most likely would have. Besides, one glitch is livable. The amount of MW2 glitches is pathetic.

Strangely, in all the years its been out, I've never seen hacking to this extent in the other most-played game: Halo 3. Yet, MW2 has been out 3 months and it's been nothing but hack after hack. Yeah, it probably has nothing to do with the game itself.

Yeah, like all the hacking going on in the other Live games...not.

They should have had a beta, but I doubt it would have caught this glitch anyway. The game was out for what now, 2+ months before this came up? A beta would not have lasted this long and it would have included far less people than the number playing it now.

I remember reading about this issue two weeks ago:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=951944&topic=52950678
I'm surprised that this wasn't considered newsworthy when even Robert Bowling looked into it. Someone took the screenname "fourzerotwo" so Bowling had to go with "RobertBowling" and eventually tweeted about it.

Dude....it is not a glitch, it is a hack. A beta test does not catch what someone can and will do with external code written to hijack some aspect of the game. You have to have an illegally moded console to load in external code. How is this IW's fault for not thinking of how all the assholes in computer world will try to ruin their game?
The more popular a game is to more likely someone will hack something into it. Same thing with an OS.....now that MAC's are more popular, there are security vulnerabilities that are being exploited there too.

Agree this hack has been roaming around the MW2 community even before new year of 2010. Well, it was pretty fun to see it being reported again much like the javelin/unli ammo we all have a taste before. Details: http://tiny.cc/mw2bughack
but you got to admit that sometimes its really pissing to see how your game got screwed just because of this hacks.. and my, that's not cool at all.

Obviously this is on a hacked Xbox in a private session so there's no need to worry about this happening in a matchmade game.

Well if I see someone with negative XP or someone doing jumping 50 Feet in the air I'll know I need to quit right away.

Don't worry, they flew out some guys from mapmonkeys to make sure this game is glitch proof.
Also anyone find it ironic map monkeys are the same ones making these exploits public? =p

There is something similar on the PC, but not as destructive. I experienced a 'sever' yesterday which was giving all the scores multiplied by 100 to everybody. Bringing down a harrier got me 30,000 points. Headshot was 10,000. I levelled up 6 times in 1 match.
It wasn't as bad because it didn't effect anyone, but it removed part of the fun of leveling up really.

You probably got on a pirated copy server. Ever since Infinity Ward released the 1.175 patch for PC pirates have had to host their own servers (using the unlocked IW console) to be able to play, as they get errors trying to join legit players.
So I'm sure they just modified the XP values through the console. Either way IW has not been doing well with keeping this shit away from the game, after all it took them a number of months to fix pirates being able to play online (which was as easy as patching a steam demo game and replacing its files with modern warfare 2's) and I'm sure it won't be much longer until they figure out a new method.

Please forgive me, but I must show my ignorance here... I have never played an online match of CoD.
Is THIS video representative of what it's like to be one of the "cool" kids on XBL??? Jesus, the guy gets a message or invite every second of the game. That was the most spastic, distracting mess I've ever seen and I have no idea how he could concentrate on anything to do with the game itself. Not to mention I couldn't understand what anyone was saying and his controller was also disconnecting every other second.
Wow... no wonder I don't often play online. I love CoD, but I think I will just stick with the single player campaign...

This is not representative at all. I have a feeling a lot of those notifications had to do with the hacks he was performing.
Do yourself a favor and play COD online! It is really fun and in about 30 hours of playtime i have only run into one hacked lobby where players were faster than normal. Also remember if you do get in a game like this just leave!

People wanted him to shoot them an invite so he could do what he did in the second match, which was reverse the glitch whereas a single kill instantly jumps you to rank 70.

If you read the video description, it says that he activated the de-rank hack in order to stop people from constantly messaging him asking for help boosting. That's what the constant stream of notifications about: stupid boosters asking for his help.
In all fairness, I can understand de-ranking those idiots if they spammed me all day too. So annoying. The same thing happened to me for a while once I got recon in H3: endless annoying requests for help and/or insults. XBL is serious business.

I play with lots of cool people on XBL. We don't take it too seriously and we laugh and talk during the match. And these are just people I met on XBL, not people I know outside of LIVE.
Though, even playing matches with strangers is fun. And if there is a high pitch voiced kid yelling racist and homophobic vitriol, you can mute them in about one second, which is a really nice thing programmers have implemented directly into the games (before it would take about thirty seconds to go into the guide, find their name and then toggle the mute through XBL, but it is still there if the game does not include it.)

Glad to hear this isn't the typical experience for most people.
I don't think I'll ever be a multiplayer nut. I really like a good campaign mode with a story to it, and repeatable action. I love games that throw up some waves of bad guys and you have to fight over and over and figure out a strategy to get to the next checkpoint.
Multiplayer is so non-linear... just doesn't appeal to me. Same with open world games. I would much rather relax and be led down a pre-defined path, experience the story, and figure my way through the tough bits.
Now, co-op, on the other hand does seem very intriguing, and might be the best of both worlds. But you would need a steady partner that you could pick up with night after night to finish a game.
