Rumor: Modern Warfare 2 hack attacks your XP

Many Modern Warfare 2 players still debate the game's best piece of weaponry. Fortunately, hackers have settled this timeless dispute once and for all: It is, of course, the gun that hurtles your opponent back in time, back to the days when he or she was a lowly, classless Private. Okay, there's apparently a new homebrewed glitch which accomplishes this feat, not a gun -- but it would be awesome if there was. We're envisioning the Infanto Ray which Borf used in Space Ace to turn awesome-Dexter into pantywaist-Dexter.

Yes, according to a few incensed forum posters, hackers have allegedly found a way to augment the amount of experience rewarded for killing them. Instead of the usual 50- or 100-point increments we usually see, these dubious players can punish their murderers with negative five million points, dropping their hard-earned rank back to level 1. Check out a NSFW video after the break to see this horrific new exercise (which appears to only be happening on Xbox Live) in motion. We've contacted the folks at Infinity Ward to find out what they're doing to crack down on these total Borfs.

P.S. I've not been a victim of any negative XP but I know tons of people are doing the Modded XP to get themselves to 10th Prestige in like a days work. I think this really sucks & I hope IW resets their accounts for this crap.

I don't think that IW can reset the cheaters' accounts. That should be Microsoft's jurisdiction and I haven't heard anything from MS regarding this particular issue.

You know it is sad when people can't just play the game and rank up normally. I've seen forums where people will modify your profile PS3 or X360 to get you higher rank. If they want to be little girls about it, let them but this negative XP deal is a little far.

I can see how people can hack the 360's profile, but the PS3's profile? How the hell does that even work?

There are files you can find on forums and sites that you upload via usb key or external HDD that modify your profile. Things such as 10th level prestige and weapon classes. There there are major things like this.

Updates to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include:

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Care Package, Emergency Airdrop, and Sentry Gun marker grenades sprint speed normalized

Sentry Guns: Improved placement detection, preventing cases of Sentry Guns inside geometry

Model 1887: Bling using Akimbo and FMJ combination now has same range and damage as non-Bling Model 1887s

Improved player collision removing cases of getting into geometry and 'elevators'

Mouse latency tweaks for more mouse movement consistency

Fixes to prevent various texture and XP hacks

Can anyone confirm that this hack can only be run in private matches with a modded host Xbox?

Isn't it also possible to, by chance, be the host in a public match game and cause this same grief?

Well Yea, I suppose they don't have the ability to do it to all the one's who benefited but they can ban/reset the original source of the Mod & all those who hosted lobbies apparently.

MW2 has been screwed up in more ways then one since the beginning, & even though some of the deeper wounds will be sewn with this patch, there's still plenty of wounds still bleeding, some we haven't even discovered yet...

Lol, this is awesome! The way I look at it is Win/Win! Call of Duty fanboys get a good dose of being pwned and infinity ward get to claim the rights to top spot on xbl twice as long as normal because the fanboys will want there cred back! GENIUS!

I swear hardly any of you people read anything. Most of you just hit reply before reading everything and or finding more information about it and quick to assume it's happening EVERYWHERE when in fact it's NOT!!! If you all want to go talk shit then go message the guy that is doing the HACK (NOT GLITCH) his name is obvious in the video - MW2 Corrupt, and the other thing is all the so called mightier people who don't play. If you don't play or didn't buy it then WTF are you doing here anyways? Go pay attention to things you do participate in instead of cluttering up comments with your stupid "thank god I didnt....." remarks.

But seriously people, it's just in a private match. Its not in the public matches nor is it in the ranked matches. Quit freaking out and demanding a company to bow down to your wishes. GO AHEAD and STOP PLAYING!!! They already have your money and could care less if you play or not. Plus you know your all talk anyways and probably playing while posting your threat on not playing anymore.

Opps, I don't know why I put that other name? The host is Mw0prestige, the reason I put that other name is because when watching the video you see that GT coming up telling people how the hack is working and how people are cheating anyways by being in that room. I couldn't edit my post so just making a quick reply to correct one small mistake I made. The person who was hosting though explains how this would even work. So all the legit players with legit 360's have nothing to worry about.

Joystiq Staff should have also been quick to put in their post that this only happens with the above conditions instead of making everyone think that this was going on in all the MW2 online games. That probably could have saved at least a page of worthless comments on here as people would have seen they're not affected nor is it affecting public or ranked matches and then they would have nothing to worry about.
