The supersuit-enhanced cat has officially leaped out of the bag, folks -- Crysis 2 will be set in New York City. According to a "World Exclusive" Twitter image of the next PlayStation: The Official Magazine's cover (partially seen above), the upcoming sequel plans to give players a chance to blast off the faces of "aliens invading NYC," employing the already teased "Nanosuit 2.0."
As the Crysis 2 cover is set for the March issue of PTOM, we expect to start hearing more details on the sequel over the next few weeks as subscribers start getting their copies (and subsequently begin filling the internet with said details).

I was thinking the same thing LaughingTarget, wondering whether I should be impressed by the sheer originality or not.
On the other side of the scale, robot aliens is always good with me, and destroying a city is a-ok :)

May I suggest Seattle? I've longed to see it destroyed in video game form.

No no no. If CRYsis is anything like Far CRY, then Crysis 2 has to take place in... uhhhh... Austria. And you have to get... smallpox while... surfing around. Oh, and there has to be this yodeling mechanic, where if you yodel into the grass, it spreads like wild-yodel.
If Far Cry 2 made sense as a sequel to Far Cry... then, by George, this makes sense.

I'd love to see Seattle, San Francisco, Las Vegas, or even Austin. I agree, enough of NYC.

New York works for many reasons:
- hodgepodge of people
- variety of locations
- one of the architectural foundations of America
- access to waterways
- recognizable and emotion-affecting landmarks
- you can always imagine anyone in a suit is a Wall Street executive when you're shooting them

Vancouver is the best. They could come down and say, "We are tired of you making movies here that make us look like violent sociopaths. So, for revenge, we will blow up Canada's Hollywood." That's when your team goes in to save the day. They could do things like protect the set of Stargate (or let it blow up if you don't like the series), among other things.

Loki_d20, yes, but there is only so many times I can see NYC destroyed and saved in both movies and games before all those locations become tedious, repetitive and emotioness. SIgnificance only has value when a place has not been visualized before. Iv'e seen NYC saved by spiderman, washed away by giant tidal waves several times, destroyed by cloverfield monster and Godzilla, raved through, blown up, explored. How many times are we going to be subjected to New York's inevitable destruction >.

I'd rather it take place in Vancouver then NYC (there is more then just the USA in the world).

I think there should be in open world game set in Oklahoma City. Yes. I did just say that. Honestly I think it would be awesome. A lot of you, though, probably haven't even seen pictures Oklahoma City so you wouldn't know.

Agreed, although I'm more psyched about not having to buy a new PC for this.

I was referring more towards the console tags in the article; I'd rather just play it on PS3.

In a way. Cities are much more detailed in other ways, though, such as the amount of artwork required.
Also, CryENGINE 3 will be able to do procedurally destructive environments, so maybe we'll be going from trees falling to skyscrapers collapsing.

Brian you are correct. 3d software and game engines as a whole are much more suited to creating and rendering inorganic things; like cities rather than a forest.
However I'm dissapointed because despite this Crysis had the most gorgeous looking tropical environments whereas this is just another boring grey-brown city

Hopefully this won't make it into a corridor shooter. I'm hoping this just means more variety in environments.
