I showed them the trailer for it months ago and they have SERIOUSLY been asking me about it every week....right now all we play together(on PS3) is Flower & that Aquarium "game"(which by the way shows that the PSEye can read Depth)

That's one of the reasons I suspect Eyepet's "release date" jumped from Spring to Fall on retailers' sites.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sony decides to release three different Eyepet bundles: Game alone, Game+Camera, Game+Camera+Controller. With the last maybe being a retailer decision.

well now that the WandyGlobe has been pushed back that was my fear of them pushing back EyePet as well as I could have sworn I read somewhere that is why its NA release was pushed back to spring was because they wanted it to launch with the WandyGlobe...

I already have the PSEye so all I need are the WandyGlobes

I have really been looking forward to this, I cant believe they delayed it..

Its not going to be suitable for everything, but stuff like resident evil arc edition etc would be really cool.

Maybe they have something big planned for it and apparently it will be called ARC - According to engadget anyway

Engineering and software schedules - made to be broken

The game industry needs to stop bothering announcing schedules until they're actually sure they're going to hit their targets. maybe like, after the product is either done or 1 month away from completion (in the Q/A process).

I kid of course, I don't know alot about realistic estimates for schedules, but I'm just saying...

Software release schedules are largely determined by what milestones the development team has achieved. I say milestones as being analogous to having checkpoints within a very long stage/level. Relying on that set of criteria isn't the wisest thing to do but there isn't any other way of measuring software's progress. My brief stint with a DARPA project introduced me to the Spiral development schedule due to its multi-disciplinary nature. I would assume that many engineering projects also operate on a Spiral schedule.

The other commonly used development schedule would be the Agile schedule, which is basically build a prototype as quickly as possible and then add features onto it. If you get it right the first time, well, your project is essentially done. However, no one ever gets it right the first time so there's a lot of hassle involved with debugging the thing because of various conflicts with the added features.

Fortunately, there are documentation tools available that keep track of the software's changes like Subversion and the more recent developer interview article on Joystiq.

Let NATAL run head first into the fire, to get to know how hot it is.

In other news, I am getting pretty tired of having to continually buy shit for something I already own. Never really catch a break, and I'm always swimming through 80 peripherals.

Both Sony and Microsoft know how hot it is: Wii. They're both trying to cash in on the expanded market that the Wii brought.

BTW, Fall is also the same timeframe for Natal, so your comment really doesn't hold water. Product launches take time, so if it really was to wait-n-see, the release would have to be delayed until after the holidays -- a financial no-no.

Uh...doesn't anyone else think this looks like a PS3 Controller/Dildo hybrid, or is it just me?

Sorry Sony, you can't copy the Wii and get away with it (we'll see...)

on to Xbox

Natal looks cool (but chunky like the 360) but as far as motion controlled games go, Wii has the upper hand (but the worst games). If Microsoft use Natal for FPS's such as Crysis 2, BioShock 2 or Halo: Reach, and it works well, then maybe the Wii fanbase may come to Xbox...

crap...that's a bad thing...more noobs....uh oh...I guess it may be easier getting Achievements such as the ridiculous one (forgot which game) where you have to be #1 in the world or something...

My opinion on motion controlling:

Wii: Best so far, but the games are too childish. Good for families.

PS3: Not sure how the hell this will work with shooters (unless you throw it, like a grenade, destroying your TV), but let's see where it goes. Hopefully not in the path of Betamax.... Nintendo could sue Sony, Sony could lose Millions, could increase delays of games and accessories...

Xbox 360: Depending on how Natal works, this could be a breakthrough or a novelty. Microsoft make expensive accessories, but if Natal goes well, i'm buying no matter what the price!

uhhhhh what the hell did you just say?

Once again...THE PSM has been in the works since 2003....LONG before the Wii....if you had PlayStation Mag back then you would know that as it was shown in a video that came on a DVD with the magazine....

How is Nintendo going to sue ANYbody? its not like THEY own the patentes....hell they were sued numerous times over the damn Wiimote and LOST...

as for not knowing how the PSM would work with shooters.....you didn't see the Demo at last years E3 did you?? Couldn't have.....

fact is MS and Sony are BOTH using these to go after the casual market....hell both have pretty much said that.....thing is Soccer moms are going to go buy a 360 or PS3 just do do more motion games....thats just dumb....

sony-motion controller on its 'designing phase' was a bit more exhilarating than this one. Before, it was called the 'orb', 'gem' and now an arc.. perhaps, next it'll be called as a magic stick.. lol. http://tiny.cc/motioncontrol but I'm still crossing my fingers that they do change the design of the stick.

Makes sense. Their efforts have consistently seemed further behind than Microsoft's, since the two were announced at the same time, and it surprised me that they thought they could get it out significantly ahead of them.

Pretty much everyone knew that spring date was an effort to one up MS. The only reason we saw the wand at last year E3 was because MS was showing something for Natal so Sony felt they needed a respond. Then without even having a decent production model of the wand, they announce they will be releasing the device in spring.

I am sure Sony just like MS understood that if they are giving developers the device in June then fall next year is the optimal date to have a decent line up of games for the system.

Forget games like Resident Evil 5 and LBP which were not designed with the wand in mind. Yes they work but it doesn't get you excited. What people want to see are games designed with the controller as the only input so we can really see what they can do.

I think it's more of the fact that software developers have a harder time sticking to a release schedule than hardware makers. For all intents and purposes, the hardware and interface for the PSMC is finished and the only lingering concern is about its aesthetics. Software developers, however, are a notorious bunch who can't keep their schedule straight.

Since the strategy is to release the hardware with a barrage of quality games, if the hardware is ready but the games aren't, then that puts a dent to that strategy. Also, Sony isn't the only one who has delayed the release date on the motion controller; Microsoft had initially planned to release it in Spring of 2010 but delayed it to Fall of 2010 some time ago.

As a Wii/PS3 owner, this is very disappointing. I love the Wii motion controls for FPS, but I am obviously missing out on the FPS' on Playstation. I am hoping the PS3 motion controller will be able to be retro fitted to previous FPS'. If this released in the Spring I could use $ and GC from Christmas to buy it. With several Wii games I want releasing Q1 and Q2 I would have held off getting them and bought the PS3 MC. Now I might as well get the Wii games. The next Call of Duty should be out Q4 of 2010 and I want to be able to evaluate the Wii version and PS3 version based on MC. I think Sony is setting themselves up for another failure by pushing this back.

This is the smarest move Sony has made in a while. Microsoft announced Natal wouldn't be available until holiday 2010, which gave Sony some breathing room. By pushing back their own release date, Sony can polish software or have more properties available at launch. And, why not? There's no need to rush to market if you're competition isn't getting to market before you. I was thinking that Microsoft had an advantage if Sony did release their product early, because they would take whatever features Sony used and try to incorporate any good ideas into their own product. With a release date closer among the two, that's not likely going to happen.

If the Wand/Sphere/Arc comes out for the PS3, will we still be able to play games with the regular controller? Or do we HAVE to use the Wand/Sphere/Arc? If we can still play old games with the regular controller, for new games, will all the games still be able to use with normal controller? Because I kinda enjoy my laziness with the controller laying on bed and playing at the same time.
