Remedy: Alan Wake demo unlikely

During an online community Q&A session held earlier this week, Remedy's Mika Reini dashed hopes for an Alan Wake demo before the game's launch. When asked whether or not the game would see a pre-release demo, Reini replied, "Demo before the launch, most likely not." Of course, that doesn't rule out the possibility of demo after the game's release, though Reini didn't imply that one was in the works.

Reini also responded to a question regarding whether or not we'll see an Alan Wake collector's edition. He wouldn't confirm if a collector's edition is in the cards, and opted instead to cheekily suggest people keep an eye on the official Alan Wake forum. If Remedy isn't working on a collector's edition, allow us to make a suggestion: Just throw a high-powered flashlight in with the game. Bam, instant collector's edition -- and one that would really mess with the people who bought the Modern Warfare 2 special edition.

Previewing the game before it is out, who'd ever want to do that!?

It's not like we actually want to make we want to buy it or anything. That's nut-crap, crazy talk.

Yeah, demoing a game before release is so stupid! I love waiting til 6 months after release to try out a game that is most likely going to be the bomb just like its look-a-like, Alone in the Dark!

It's especially ridiculous to want to play a game 6+ years in the making before buying it. Obviously if it took that long to come out, it's SUPER JAWESOME!

Why?...why wouldn't there be a demo? No demos for new IPs seem incredibly risky to me.

Super excited for Alan Wake though.

There is a demo out there is called Alone in the Dark or Luigi's Mansion which ever is funnier

I hope this one ups AC2's "It's-a me, Mario" with "Mario, where are you?" at some point

Uncharted 1 maybe, nah I still think that looked better. They have just held onto it too long that it doesn't have the wow factor of when it was first shown off years ago.

You should've stopped after "screens shots from this game look amazing." Comparing anything to Uncharted is just asking for trouble from both ends of the fanboy spectrum.

I don't know, if Uncharted 2 did one thing perfect it was the graphics. PS3 exclusives do tend to look better graphically.

To the casuals/non-blog-readers, this game is on life support, and they've long forgotten about it. A demo seems to be the smart way to go, considering the circumstances. As for me, a day one purchase. As is MP3.

Consumer: Rental instead of purchase likely.

until this game is spotted on store shelves, it shall remain vaporware.

Well technically 4years and a month... but still... they were talking up this game like crazy for Launch Day... then... delay... and delay.... then silence.... and more delays!...

No, Alan Wake release date always has been "When it's done" until last E3.

Now the release day is "Spring 2010".

Actually, I believe it was supposed to be an XBOX 360 launch game. Either way, Danzavier is only half right.

conviction looks fantastic. it's definitely one of the reasons fi want a 360 (mass effect 1 & 2, and MW2 online with all my friends from school being the other reasons).

That's probably not a bad idea. The E3 demo was pretty underwhelming and considering what high hopes most people have for a game with Duke Nukem level development hype, a demo would almost certainly discourage sales

maybe if they had more time they could manage a demo 8|
