According to a recent report from the Times Online, UK-based publisher Codemasters is "close to securing" a new investor and will announce the mysterious source "shortly." The news is said to be paired with an upcoming balance sheet restructuring -- a necessity, we imagine, after less than huge releases last year like Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, Fuel, and Damnation.
The report also indicates that current investors Balderton Capital and Goldman Sachs will "inject new funds" into the publisher, seemingly holding steadfast in their efforts to build up Codemasters as a major publisher in the global market. The two investment firms have already sunk £100 million ($163.3 million) into the company, so, um, well, maybe they know something we don't? We sure hope that's the case -- we certainly wouldn't want any of our golf buddies at Goldman Sachs to lose their bonuses.

I'd love to see some more Codemasters games. I bought Dirt 2 for $20 on the steam weekend and it's just awesome.

I had a lot of fun with Fuel despite it's mediocre scoring.

Fuel really just needed a few tweaks and it would've been insanely good.
Too bad it has gotten zero support whatsoever. The PC version's debug mode lets you do a few things the developers should have put in the game in the first place. There is no reason something like weather type and time or length of day should be left out of the settings.

im sorry but i went to blockbuster and bought Pure, but he mistakenly gave me Fuel. i played that game and was horrified by the handling of some of the cars, especially the road only cars. then the loading screen took way to long and came up way to often. restarting a race took way to long. cars would not grip and there weren't enough races per section. plus none of the cars that i had unlocked went over 120 mph. i think the game had potential but needed more work to optimize the code to shorten the load times.

Big fan of the Dirt series and totally enjoyed Grid. The games are fantastic but what's really amazing in those games is how ridiculously slick the out of gameplay UI is. Operation Flashpoint also had a pretty neat UI, even though I thought the game was kind of a turd quality wise.

I liked everything about GRID except for the actual driving. The atmosphere, menus, crowd, and voice were all top notch. The driving wasn't bad, but I felt more like I was fighting the car than racing other drivers.

Everyone knows that F1 2010 is the most exciting game coming out this year. Codemasters know how to do online racing games and there has never been a good online F1 game. I cannot wait.

Whatever happened to the Toca series, I think codemasters had something to do with that?
