I don't know, but to me this sounds like good news. Him being freelance means more games with good music in it. Not just Squeenix games.

Would you say it's... music to your ears?

Music to my ears? I like the sound of that tune!

I used to think this was bad news, I over reacted. But now I just see this as the industry adapting to change. I still hear my favorite composers on my favorite games. Plus maybe this means that musicians get paid more, never a bad thing.

I would too if they chose "My Hands" for the games theme song.

Better than some obscure Japanese pop artist.

Who cares? It's one fucking track you'll hear during the credits or something. Get over it.

I totally agree whitenoise. Nobuo Uematsu must be rolling in his grave. Well, that's if he was dead...but my point is still valid.

It sure isn't a Kingdom Hearts Intro/Outro, that's for sure.

I'd far rather have some well composed title/theme/whatever music than an unrelated, terrible pop song

The more Hamauzu - one of the best IMO - can work, the more I'm happy! Free from Squix, he will work with Atlus, Nintendo, Level5... anyone !

YAY!

I think it was Gamasutra awhile back that had an interview with some squeenix translators who left to go freelance. They talked about it like the best thing ever, more money, more respect and they still ended up taking contracts from Squeenix and working on some of their favorite properties. Hopefully the same is true with Hamauzu.

Oddly enough, that very article is in the next tab over right now in my browser window.

Do you know what's in the next tab over after that, too?

I wonder what unseen force is leading to the departures...

other than SE's quality of crap games...

other than the FF series.

Fail, I hate swapping CDs when I listen to music. They could have easily put all of this in a bluray disk.

Wow, in my opinion Masashi Hamauzu was SE's biggest music talent ever since he composed the soundtrack for SaGa Frontier 2 (imo one of the best videogame soundtracks of all time). To see him leaving makes me wonder which companies will hire him to compose new soundtracks for their games. I hope many!!
