My hope is with you.

The inclusion of the Hero of Time factoid - despite the irony of that word in this situation - has me giddy as a Japanese school girl at the thought of playing as OoT/MM's Link yet again.

However, seeing as Eiji came out not too long ago and said that remaking OoT would destroy any - or most - emotional ties that many people have with that game. Revisiting that Hyrule with that Link is pretty much the same, even though much evidence points to TP's Hyrule as the same as OoT's Hyrule, that, itself, precedes - and contradicts - Eiji's statement by nearly 3 years.

When it comes to Zelda rumors, I absolutely hate them, because I cannot grip the fact they may not be true. I do have a keen sense to dispel some rumors that just reek of bullshit, but I can't stop myself from letting my imagination run wild when this sort of news pops up.

And it happens to be a week before Apple's iTable event, so with Zelda and Apple rumors on-top of one another like some freak orgy, well, there's a mess to be made. Excuse me.

That's it, I've put it off long enough... I'm replaying Majora's Mask this month. It's been way too damn long, and it's my favorite Zelda.

God I hope this news is true too! There's more character and story in just one Terminan than in the rest of the series put together, I'd hope they put that much love into this game.

I forgot Japanese = all knowing and godly. I bet they hear about american rumors from amercian forums and have the very same logic. "Same language, must be true."

@cj - its got nothing to do with the Japanese being 'all knowing' and something to do with the fact that "chan" is not particularly odd in Japanese since its a common syllable/word/ending in the language.

I'm filing this rumor right behind "Team Ico is making 2 games" on my master list of scuttlebutt. For reference, "Team Ico is making 2 games" is on the very implausible end of my spectrum.

I don't know a lot about their credibility overall, but I remember when I was following Brawl for the last two years up to its release they were the bearers of some fairly significant, credible information.

As stated those rumors are pretty vague and aren't really exciting in that form. After some (excruciating) time put into Twilight Princess, I need a LOT from this new zelda to get me interested in the series again.

TP was excruciating? I was on edge of my chair the whole way through... Sure it wasn't the revolutionary Zelda we all hoped it would be, but we had also just been spoiled rotten by Shadow of the Colossus the previous year and Okami a few months prior.

It was a great game by all standards, and there are fewer higher standards than console Zelda.

Well I've only got to the Goron Mines, just after Kakariko Village but I haven't played it anymore in about 2 weeks because the game's just not fun at all, it's a chore to go through.

Well, I too disliked Twilight Princess. It's a good game, but a bad Zelda (I know, off with my head). It was a cash-in, plain and simple. It was very safe. It didn't dare try anything "dangerously new" That's not a bad thing, but almost every Zelda tried something new and generally succeeded, throwing in a wolf wasn't new nor was it unbridled fun. TP was just Ocarina 1/2. The formula is getting old now.

They should do an offbeat Zelda like this article hints at, or go back to a 2D version like A Link to the Past. It worked on New Super Mario, and that was based on a DS title for goodness sake. Change isn't bad with a successful franchise. You can always go back to the stale formula later, in which case it might be more welcome by then. Look at Wind Waker. Still upsetting to some, but those people still got there Twilight Princess.

Let's hope this franchise keeps the fans divided so that both sides can be served on and off throughout the years.

@Massmass: They still make 2D Zelda! It's just on DS now. (Okay, technically the graphics is probably 3D, but whatever - it's pretty much classic 2D Zelda, plus a 3D section just for the navigation gimmick.)

I loved Twilight Princess, partly because the art style for the twilight realm (in cutscenes etc) remains one of the best pieces of game art direction (imo) I've ever seen ever. The wolf thing and the slightly darker story were exciting and, at the time, new. The game was great in pretty much every way, even though in terms of mechanics/structure/planning it also worked the same way as more or less every Zelda ever has (right back to, say, Link To The Past, for instance). Just my opinion though. (Twilight Princess is top of my Wii play time records at 70 hours or something.. I think I must have played it twice through or something...)

As for what Nintendo should do, I think, um, the list at the top of this post sounds like a pretty good idea... but I'm sure it will still be great even if the actual change is a bit less radical.

I don't really care one way or the other. No matter which direction Nintendo decides to take the game, it will be great. They haven't really messed up a Zelda game yet.

Zelda II still gives me the most vivid visual memory of any old game. The boss fights with the red health blocks and bold curtains, mmmmmm loved them even though when I was a kid I couldn't get pass the first boss or even know what the hell I was supposed to do. It was great fun watching my brother though until I grew up to conquer it myself.

It should also be noted that Majora's mask was done by fresh meat straight out of college. It was experimental for Nintendo at the time and Miyamoto just checked in on the title from time to time and they didn't even always listen to him; something Miyamoto appreciated at the time too if the interviews are correct. It may not be a bad thing to try that again.

So far its a fight between WW and OoT for me. (WW just sucker punched OoT in the ball... yes, OoT only has one ball.)

I think that the Zelda franchise could use a 'reboot', and this rumor seems to fit well with Nintendo's intentions on changing it up. I don't think it's possible to achieve a OoT-esque game in terms of innovation and turn-it-on-it's-head-ation, but if they do, WHOOIE!

I missed out on the 64, so I literally have no idea what you're referring to. I see how it could be cool though. And I'm not saying OoT is the only good or worthy Zelda game: if a MM 'squeak'-uel achieves OoT-like status, it'd be UH-MAY-ZING...

How'd you play OOT then if you missed out on the N64? Majora's Mask is on Virtual Console as well if I'm not mistaken, and it was on the Zelda anniversary disc. Did you just play OOT on the Wind Waker OOT Master Quest preorder disc?

(MM spoilers ahead!) Actually, when you cure the man, his curse turns into a mask, which you take with you. So, even if you go back in time, he stays cured, like nothing ever happened. Feel better now?
... also, did all this made sense? I'm pretty sleepy at the moment... it's 5am over here... zzz...
